BT- French Telecom Adapter

Recommended Posts

I assume you mean UK telephone to French wall socket, in which case you can get them all over the place. Not sure where I got mine, but I don’t use it any more. Some UK telephones will work fully in France through an adapter, others wont. Mine was one of those in the “wont” group (it was a BT phone). It worked pretty well OK except it would not ring (which was not terribly convenient.

Apparently this is not uncommon – some phones fine, others not and its not related to the adapter but the telephone. My impression is that it is not worth bothering unless you have a particularly expensive flashy UK telephone.

I received the following information from a company called Solwise in the UK.  Haven't tried it out yet as I don't move to France until next Spring.

You can use normally UK telephones that have the BT connector on the
end of the cable. You would need a French Telephone Adaptor (on our
web page:
http://www.solwise.co.uk/telesun.htm - stock code ADAP-
FRANCE at £2.33) but you also need Telephone Adapter / RJP/BTS - with
ring capacitor (RJ11) at £2.22 - on the same web site page - this
adaptors converts you BT plug into an RJ11 which fits into the French
adaptor and enables the telephone device to ring.
