Deimos
Before reviewing which ADSL provider you think might suityour needs, I would check first which providers will actually be offering anyservice. I have had ADSL for over ayear now and other than a short time when CegeTel offered a couple of limitedspeeds, Wanadoo is the only ISP providing any service. Doesn’t matter who has what offers – for meI can select between Wanadoo and Wanadoo (CegeTel droped out of offeringanything several months ago).Once you have a service you can check with e.g. http://www.degrouptest.com/(there are other similar sites and they all have errors and omissions) as towho can provide you any service. There are loads of threads here discussing different ISPs,etc. and where to find out about them so you may find the info you are seekingby looking back or searching (e.g. http://www.completefrance.com/cs/forums/588835/ShowPost.aspx).If you are rural then your choice may be limited. Similarly, the speed of ADSL may also belimited. I am 3.5Km from the exchangeand I can get 1MB (higher speeds are quoted by FT as being OK but they don’twork). My nearest village can only get512K.Ian
BJSLIV
Degrouptest is pretty useless for the typical Liv France users, as it only tells you if you can get Degrouped lines, which usually means that you need to be in one of the larger towns. This excludes most LF members living the peasant life out in La France Profonde!
Sevenup
Can anyone explain what degroupage actually means and what is its significance with regard to an ADSL connection.
LesLauriers
Take a look at the posting below yours in the satellite forum entitled "AliceDSL and degroupage total"
Deimos
http://www.degrouptest.com/ was 100% for me and I am 20Kmfrom the nearest town (which had ADSL a year before I got it), and I don’t evenlive in a village nor a hamlet (in the middle of “nowhere”). It was 100% on the due date, updated prettyregularly as the schedule slipped and even now, over 1 year after I startedusing ADSL with Wanadoo the France Telecom online web system still tells meADSL is not available in my area. Certainly my experience is that the http://www.degrouptest.com/ is oneof the more reliable ones and does not just work in or out of towns. The other very useful thing http://www.degrouptest.com/gives you is info about your line (distance to the switch, subscriber density, etc. which can give you an idea about interest by other ISPs and the sort ofspeeds you might actually achieve.Ian
