New second disk?

Recommended Posts

I have just installed a new second disk on my desktop PC. When the PC was booted it showed New Hardware, Disk and it appears in the Device Manager. I have initialised it in Disk Manager (I think???).

OS is XP, SP2 (and thinking of going to SP3?) The disk is a 250 gig Seagate Barracuda SATA-300.

There is no sign of it in the Windowz Explorer? The reason for the new disk is that the old one died big time. I don't remember having any difficulty installing the original second disk.

I also want to partition the disk into something like 100/130+ gig partitions and use one for my video editing and the other as a back up for files on the desktop and our laptop.

Anyone got any idea as to what I am doing wrong please??? And what to do next?

Big TA in anticipation?

When the blank drive is first seen by Disk Management it will not be

seen in Windows Explorer as a drive letter. To get it seen in Windows

Explorer as a drive letter, the drive will need to be configured

through Disk Management. Windows XP/2000 will normally see the

unpartitioned drive when you open Disk Management and start the wizard

for you.

For full details/instructions see HERE. It may be an idea to download seatools from the same site.
