SOS - Urgent Foster Home Needed for 2 Afghan/Borzoi Crosses

Recommended Posts

Greyhound Gap in the UK were contacted recently by a lady whose Sister is moving back to the UK from France. Perhaps stupidly the dogs are NOT pet passported. All the obvious rescues like Phoenix are full to the gills and the deadline is 2nd June and we can not help but fear the worst. We are going to ask the owners to get the rabies jab and get the pet passport under way BUT for the next 7mnths our hands are tied. If we can find a safe place for them during that time then we will commit to bringing them to the UK as Gap hounds. Does anyone know or have any contacts in France who may be able to help these dogs? We can probably arrange transport to a place of safety. The dogs are currently in Dordogne near Bergerac. Below are a couple of pictures of the dogs.

If anyone can help these dogs please can they contact me and I will pass on details to Greyhound Gap - thanks for reading

To put a photograph into your post:

  • The photograph must be on your computer.

  • The format should be .jpg

  • Re-size your photograph(s) to a maximum width of 400 pixels.  This ensures that they fit the forum browser window properly.

  • Open a free account at Photobucket.

  • Browse from Photobucket to your photo and choose it.

  • Upload to Photobucket.

  • When the photograph has uploaded it will appear in your album. Underneath there are three addresses.

  • Highlight and copy the one marked Img - make sure you have copied the whole address. There should be IMG and /IMG in square  brackets at the beginning and end of the address.

  • Paste the address into the appropriate place in your post, and the picture should appear.

You can get a false representation if you simply put in a photo address without the IMG tags, as your computer finds the photo in its own innards, whereas other viewers don't have access to that.

     Porche and Uni

      Porche female

      Uni male

Brother and sister, six years old.    Mmmmmmmmm the mixture of the two beautiful breeds is something quite exceptional.   [:)]

Do you know if they are both neutered?  I imagine they must be.

You are asking for a foster home.  A permanent home would be marvellous wouldn't it?

If only I could, they are so beautiful.  But no, unfortunately, just trying to help.  We are in fact trying not to take in any more now.

These dogs really are gorgeous and already have everything, so no expense.  They just need a good home together with a well fenced garden and no cats or chickens, etc.

They are once again the innocent victims of careless owners.  They really deserve to have someone who does care.

Hi Christine, I would love to help, they are such lovely dogs. I am moving into the Ariege and have a really big garden but I wont be there for the month of June. So, if anyone could take them until July I would be willing to foster them for 3 months or so after that.

Would that be any help?

Sad news I’m afraid, it is just Porche looking for a new home, she is temporarily going to the lady's daughter next Friday. Sadly Uni was put to sleep yesterday as her daughter could only take one of the dogs. Her owner will be taking Porche to the vet on Tuesday to have her micro chipped, rabies vaccinated and to get a passport. Uni was pts because she didn't know what she was going to do with him when she left and said she didn't realise how many people were trying to help out.

If anyone can help Porche, please, please get in touch as I am so afraid we will lose her too

I'll take her !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How could such a terrible thing have happened?  This has been very badly handled.  I thought you were dealing with the owner.  Otherwise I would have even tried to get them into Angoulême.  I thought you would have put them temporarily in boarding to save them.

Can you put me in touch with the owner immediately please.

It is devastating for all of us - I am not in touch with the owner - it was owner's sister who contacted Greyhound Gap who are in England and they in turn got in contact with anyone on their volunteer list who might be able to help.

The owner arbitrarily decided to have Uni put to sleep without recourse to Greyhound Gap even though they have been working day and night to try and secure a rescue place for the dog in Europe.

As an English rescue they could not take them in immediately because of the English quarantine laws and do not have the funds to put them into temporary boarding as they are already spending thousands of pounds a month on the English sighthounds they are helping.

We knew we had until the 2nd June to secure a rescue place as it is only 23rd May we did not expect the owner to do this.

I will send your contact details to Nettie from GG and say you have offered a rescue space

I am not of course blaming you personally Anne.  But you say the owner did not realise so much was being done and so many people were involved in trying to find a solution for them.  The owner should have been comforted that everything was being done to find a solution.

I personally did not want to interfere as I thought Greyhound Gap were taking care of it.  Someone on Total France offered to pay a certain sum for boarding, Momcat on here was offering to take them in July.  I was under the impression there were solutions and anyway we had until June 2nd.  There is really something I don't understand, why did she have him put down yesterday when she is only going to get Porche vaccinated on Tuesday.  What was the rush?

I have turned this in my head every way today and even hoped it was a ploy to get someone to move for Porche and that Uni wa still alive.  It's pretty unbearable when it was so unnecessary.

Nettie can count on me for Porche, but I shall not be going through Greyhound Gap.  I just want to be in direct contact with the owner.

I can't give you the owners details because I do not have them. I did not get notification of any offer from Total France for boarding or I would have passed it on. I contacted Momcat but got no response.

I don't understand either but please respond to Nettie as she is the co-ordinator and I don't have the full story. I know she has tried to phone you and emailed so I beg you to reply. I am just trying to help here and could not bear it if we lose Porche too

Anne

I tried to contact you. Sent a message about 3 times but it just kept bouncing back.

If I can help phone no. 05 61 68 38 85

Computer is only just linked up so maybe a hiccup with the set-up.

I hope that this gets through.

Was there a 'happier' end to this distressing story I wonder?  I saw these two dogs on the Phoenix Association site at least a month ago - bit puzzled as to how it all went so wrong for Uni as they explicitly say they NEVER let dogs be put down....... I am assuming they never actually HAD the dogs so am confused as to why they had them on there?  I have had dogs off them and would like to think my trust in them has not been compromised in any way as I often recommend them to people....  Did you manage to secure Porche Christine then?
