French and American Contrasts

Yes I think France is a very diverse area. Here in Bretagne, tradition is still king, the Breton language is thriving and the genuine dyed-in-the-wool born Breton person is not one for flashing the cash, quite the opposite as they do not like talking about money and as for possessions, the size of the woodpile or stock of hay bales takes precendent over the latest new car. That is another thing, incomers from Paris or other countries in Europe are mostly the new and upper market vehicle buyers, a good old Citroën,Peugeot or Renault does the folks around here and being the first family to buy a Picasso in 2000, the number of other families who followed suit is amazing because they could see it was a practical family vehicle and not expensive. The communist party is very strong in our neck of the woods along with the socialists and militant action by farmers and fishermen is very common. Two Parisiennes who came to our friend's house when we were there were surprised we had the internet in our village, so my son said we had flushing toilets and running water as well if they would like to take a look.
