seb47
We are in the process of buying a new French caravan and hope to collect it at the end of the month. It exceeds 750 kg. We've been looking into the cost of insuring it. Our Axa agent has quoted nearly 300 Euros "tout compris" and admits this is expensive, but says his hands are tied. We tried the local Macif agent and he said that we must take out caravan insurance with the insurer who insures the car. He quoted a comparable price for the car but only 70 Euros for the caravan! We returned to the Axa agent and he quickly consulted with his colleagues in the office who agreed we don't have to take out the caravan insurance with them and could go elsewhere? Does anyone have any idea who is right? We would prefer to stay with Axa (our car insurance is not due to be renewed for some time), but paying nearly 200 Euros more is a bit rich.Pete
Boiling a frog
I pay about 120 euros for my caravan. However as to your question. The French caravan club FCC offer caravan assurance but do not offer car assurance so presumably one is not required to insure car and caravan with same assurer. seb47
Many thanks BAF. Am just researching the FCC. If we can get something nearer the cost you quote we'll be happy!Pete

Boiling a frog
http://www.ffcc.fr/docs/avantages/assurances/ASSURANCE_TOUS_DOMMAGES_CARAVANE.pdf The only problem is that while the caravan is being towed your car insurance covers it and you have to tell your car insurance coy that you are towing a caravaan
