Sunday Driver Posted July 24, 2009 Share Posted July 24, 2009 You do not have to produce proof of insurance in order to apply for a carte grise.Most UK insurers will no longer maintain cover once you are resident abroad so it's usual practice for people to obtain French insurance once they arrive here. French insurers will issue a temporary insurance certificate under the UK registration number, then replace it with a full certificate on production of your new carte grise.
