Small Camp Sites

I didn't really know where to put this but here seems as good a place as any.

We are thinking of creating a small and select campsite for touring caravans and tents. We think that it will be quite small, round 6 to 8 pitches. I would be very interesting to know what the recommended and legal requirements for the following are.

Size of pitch.

Number of on-site toilets, showers and wash facilities.

How many washing up places.

How many sanitary stations (places to empty porta potties)

Are there limits before it gets heavily legally involved on the number of pitches like say B&B's i.e. after 5 pitches you need to register etc.

Any other information would be welcome as would any points of reference like official websites for people setting up this sort of thing.

Thanks

Chris,

Firstly, you have to now remember you are now with G de Fr and having a

campsite on site, so to speak, you may well find that you will have to

resign if it is not under their rules. That is not certain, as I have

known folks have commerces to the side of their CdH but completely

seperate but still remain with GdF.

I would certainly take advice on this matter, from your GdF rep.

They will possibly take you on as one of their campings but noramlly

they like à  la ferme type affairs but it can do no harm to ask.

For the more basic affairs around 6-8 pitches, believe me, putting in

electrics to the pitches and toilet block, wastes and fosse etc,

building an abolution block and kitting it all out............. oh the

list may appear short but it will appear endless and so is the money it

will take to complete ! That is of course, if you do it above board, which I know you would be keen to do, unlike some of the lash ups we have seen from Brits and their Camping à la ferme's with far too many pitches to qualify as such but rough riding over the regs.

Chris,

I wondered if you had found out what the regs are yet?  Obviously

speaking to the Mairie is the first step but it is always nice to know

the rules before doing so.  I have in mind a very specific project

and wondered what would be required from a permission point of view to

allow maximum of say 6 tents.  Land is non constructable, 15Ha.

Not to be open to the public per se, any thoughts appreciated.

Regards

Adrian

The people who lived here before us had a 'Campng a la Ferme', and I think that is what it would be called even if there is no ferme.  The maximum emplacements was 6 although I think there was scope to add a few more.  There were no regulations as such regarding numbers of toilets/ showers etc, I think that is the whole point; rather like gites which were originally a way of the farmer's wife making a bit of extra money.  The place to start is the Mairie although I seem to remember there is some body that issues a permit, probably at the Prefecture, unfortunately I did not keep the paperwork.

I have to say that putting this post in the 'Earning a Living' part of the Forum might give a misleading impression.  The amount you can earn is very small.  Take a look at the rates paid on small camp sites and the short season involved, also consider that you have to be there all day every day to deal with customers.

Do you mean just letting the odd bunch of friends/scouts camp there or do you mean that only pre-booked and paid public can camp there ?

Cheers

Sorry to be a bit vague.  Definately no scouts though girl guides is an idea....

I don't want to give details on here but the same rules would apply if

for example you wanted to run a course of some description, say

painting, yoga or something.  The participants would camp. Max 6

tents?

Thanks

ps I am not running yoga or painting holidays so please don't give me advice on how to do yoga!
