1. Just looking at options for doing an installation.  Walls are solid stone, some block and some are beton cellulaire (breeze block).  In the UK you'd probably use 6242Y and sheath it.  Other option would be to use oval conduit and plaster over.  I can't imagine how you would run the French gaine up inside a block wall without chasing out and then how you'd fill in a hollow block wall fills me with dread! Could chase out the cellulaire I suppose.  Now I know you can't use cable with bare earth so my question is; can you use oval tubing with individual cables and plaster over?  Any other suggestions welcome!
2. Does anyone happen to have a list of what would entitle you to be registered as an 'agriculteur'.  100 cows would do it but how about something easier like bee keeping?  Essentially we have about 12ha of woodland and need to be registered in order to obtain some planning.  Need the easiest option! We already convert timber, saw mill etc but apparently that doesn't count! Any help appreciated!
3. Has anyone used Poolsan? www.poolsan.co.uk   Chlorine free........
4.
You will not be suprised just how often this question is asked. If you do a search, you will find vast amounts of info! Do you want me to be blunt? I'll assume that you do... a) If you (all of you, kids included) are not 100% behind this scheme, then I will guarantee that it won't work. b) You need enough money to survive for at least 2 years. Can you live on his pension? With or without a mortgage, France is no cheaper than most of the UK (and alot more expensive - such as transport - in some areas). c) Refer to b). If your or his skills are not transferrable, and don't assume that they are, then you will not make a living. d) I know plenty of people who have been forced back to the UK. Usually they are below retirement age and cannot make a living. e) Don't believe anyone who tells you your kids will be bilingual in 6 months - it simply ain't true. f) Goats are a real pain in the arse. g) Traffic consists mainly of 30mph "sans permis" vehicles driven by drunks & dead people. h) Kids normally start school at 2 1/2. A 4-year old starter would be considered "old".   Move here? I wouldn't do so again - however, we are quite happy and settled here. Mark you, we struggle to make ends meet running 4 businesses & have never worked so hard as we do now. Think carefully, then think some more.
5. I believe that as a seafarer you come under the same special rules as aircrew. Your circumstances are broadly similar to hundreds of aircrew who live in France and work from UK and other EU countries and don't pay income tax or social charges. It is a bit more complicated than that of course but that's the basics. If you'd like the details of a good English speaking French advocate email me. You must file a french tax return by the way as well as a UK one. There is ulso a new, currently unratified treaty which may change this.
6. Thanks Andrew, Gives us something to think about, pool is blue now but maybe all is not well..... Also we don't use chlorine but a product called "Oxygen Active" so not sure of the compatibility but hope we don't need to drain the pool!
7. Andrew, Thanks for a quick response. There is no tree nearby though there are a lot of leaves in the pool which we are trying to vacumn out at the moment. I didn't think this would be the cause but maybe it is? JD flash is 35% Hydrogen peroxide. Should the sand be changed? Just coming into our third summer with it.  We might as well replace the sand with Zoelite but none of our local pool shops or Castorama etc stock it? We are near Pau (64)
8. We are having problems recovering our small 8m pool to a summer condition having left it all winter.  Have tried chlore shock and also JD Flash, anti algae but 5 days later no change PH is 7.4 Backwashed daily and looks clean.  Pool is 2 years old, do we need to change sand maybe? I understand there is another product better than sand, is that an option? Any advice appreciated. Thank You Adrian
9. Sorry to be a bit vague.  Definately no scouts though girl guides is an idea.... I don't want to give details on here but the same rules would apply if for example you wanted to run a course of some description, say painting, yoga or something.  The participants would camp. Max 6 tents? Thanks ps I am not running yoga or painting holidays so please don't give me advice on how to do yoga!
10. Ah yes Liz! I didn't notice the heading I was trawling through all the old posts looking for info.  Making money is not an issue, we are purely interested in the legal aspects. Thanks for the post though.
11. Chris, I wondered if you had found out what the regs are yet?  Obviously speaking to the Mairie is the first step but it is always nice to know the rules before doing so.  I have in mind a very specific project and wondered what would be required from a permission point of view to allow maximum of say 6 tents.  Land is non constructable, 15Ha. Not to be open to the public per se, any thoughts appreciated. Regards Adrian
