Help needed to find a U.K. property company to sell a house with land in Normandy

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone.

I am posting this message on behalf of an English friend who owns a colombage property with land situated near to the Seine Valley in Normandy.

After twenty years in France she has decided to move back to England to be near to friends following the sad loss of her partner in recent years. She does not have access to a computer hence my post on her behalf.

Anyway, can anyone recommend an English based French property company, preferably on the internet, who work with local estate agents in France to sell properties to English clients?

The property is a lovely Normandy colombage house set in a beautiful valley with the only complication being that it comes with 10 acres of land. She previously kept horses & the odd donkey which is why she chose a place with this amount of  land. The property would therefore appeal to someone who wished to keep horses or other animals on the land or perhaps to someone who would enjoy owning their own slice of a wooded valley.

Just a thought but are there any companies out there who tend to specialise in this type of property?

Any recommendations?

Many thanks in advance.

Sarah

Strange view on selling property, it is not only the British who are after this type of property, and I would use a local Immobillier rather than a British agent.  I would say that you should look at a local agent who deals with all nationalities.  In this area there are a lot of Parisians who have houses and who would probably be interested.  Why be blinkered, or is it the view that the British will pay more for a property than it is worth?

There's a good Normandy-based Dutch-run agency, who advertises in Living France magazine and French Property News, with a couple of offices in Pas de Calais (St Pol and Hesdin) as well as Gace (61) Pont l'Eveque (14) and Notre-Dame-du-Touchet (50). They deal with British, French and in fact all nationalities. As Stocky says, if you are selling you go direct to the agent in France. If you choose an agent that works with sub-agents in other countries, like the one I suggest, then you increase your potential coverage many times over.

If it were me I would take the time to search using Google.fr and Google for properties of the type your friend is selling in France and see how good their agent's response is to enquiries. Also does their website give you enough information to decide if you want to visit.

The amounts of money involved as commision and tax are by UK standards so big relative to the house costs that you need somebody who is proactive. Get a friend to phone them up and see how they respond to questions about the properties they have. Also look at 'House & Hound' or whatever UK mags cover the kind of house you are hoping to sell and see who is advertising. The ads do not need to be big but they need to be there.

Many thanks to all of you who replied - much appreciated.

Would just explain that my friend has been trying the French mkt via local immobilier since last August without receiving an offer on the property - I think the problem is the amount & type of land attached to what is a relatively small house.

Anyway, I will investigate the suggestions made and once again many thanks for your help.

Kind regards,

Sarah
