Soundproofing?

In my sitting room downstairs the ceiling has the usual exposed upstairs floor joists, the floor upstairs is Oak Parquet T&G fixed directly to the joists.
I plan to fix battening to the insides of the joists and across from joist to joist to form a sort of ladder effect and then to fix pine T&G to form a ceiling.
Has anybody any thoughts on the best form of soundproofing/insulation between the Parquet upstairs and the downstairs ceiling, or will the noise from footsteps still transmit down through the joists?
My best thoughts are to fix the glass fibre sort with the brown paper backing that comes in various widths.
All alternative suggestions gratefully considered.

We have the same problem, and were thinking of the paper-backed fibreglass covered by painted plasterboard. We were told, however, that the amount of sound insulation is limited because the floorboards still make direct contact with the beams and joists, and so the noise is still partially transmitted.
Has anyone tried this and is able to give a definitive answer before we start?
