Can anyone answer a query on whether it is still possible to install a "cesspit/cesspool"; given that it is mainly a holding tank pending emptying by tanker when nearly full.Regards....Menace. They will, in turn check with the dept to see if cesspits are being allowed anymore and you may get a visit from your commune's technicien d'assainissement to take a look. Moorejw Posted September 15, 2004 Share Posted September 15, 2004 Our local Syndicat des Eaux informed us that you can only have permission to install a fosse etanche (Cess pit) if there is not enough ground around your house to install any other system. We have a small cottage which has never been lived in, with a tiny handkerchief garden and they have informed us that a fosse etanche would be permissible. Whatever your situation your first call is to the Mairie for the application form which they send off to the SdE and they will then arrange to inspect your property and advise on possible solutions. As I thought, it will have to be a foss septic because of the availability of a rather large overgrown garden.
