1. Thanks for that. It will have to be red for the feed and brown for switch lines. menace(Sussex & 14)
2. Can someone advise whether the live (phase) supply should now be brown or still to remain in red? My brico was very short of the brown 1.5 & 2.5mm cable.  I did however, note stacks of red on the shelves. Regards. Menace (Sussex & Dept.14)
3. Oops! sorry to hear of this. Could have been a genuine mistake.  It is possible that things may subside when tempers cool down. Menace
4. Hi Monica, Can you please advise on the approximate cost of you fosse. That's providing it is being installed in Normandy. I need to have one install soon. By my calculation, 3000 litres will suffice. I have seen kits in the local Brico for 500 euros however, reluctant embark on the DIY route. If yours is successful you may wish to recommend your installer. I am in Vassy (14). Menace
5. Thanks guys, It appears that because the propert is a wreck and with no local post box, it was deemed appropriate that I attend in person to collect. Also to make myself known ot the mairie. Menace.
6. Your experience/comments please. Has anyone have any experience of being summoned to the Maries' office in order to collect a premis de construire, or does the document just arrive in the post?.  menace. (Sussex & 14)
7. I thank you all for your informative response on this topic. I am now much more aware of the possible cost of installation. I will no doubt be seeking further quotation this Friday. I may consider the DIY route as a last resort. menace
8. Many thanks for all your assistance. By coincidence, just arrived home and quotation received along with other post from France, may have got held up somewhere. For information the quotation is a staggering 11,500euros for a 5000 litre. Having a laugh I thought!. This also incudes 1400 euros for a pump. Why I need a pump I have no idea, taking into account that the land (approx. 3500 square meters of it )slopes gently away from the rear of the property where the fosse is to be sited. Looks like another trip over to obtain yet more quotations. If all fails, I may have to go the DIY route. The savings would most certainly be worth taking a couple of weeks unpaid leave from work.  Better still anyone in the vicinity east of Vire that can recommend a "cheap" installer?.  menace (Sussex) & (14)
9. We have a barn for conversion into three bedrooms, one bathroom and one shower room. with the property being used mainly for holidays. I was of the opinion that 3000 - 3500 litre would be adequate. If not possible 5000 litres capacity. Can anyone advise on the approximate cost of installing a fosse toutes eau, or is the standard fosse septic still acceptable. quotation requested for "eparco" system some time ago and still waiting.. Regards... Menace (dept 14)
10.
We were in a similar position to you in that we had already got drawn up plans and needed a French Architect because of the 170 sq m rule. Our architect (87) took the plans as they stood, stuck a cou...
Well, having read the last few postings I am now kicking myself. If only I had been tad economical with my measurements this situation would not have risen... does honest really pay!. Denis
11. Thanks for all your help. I will obviously have to commission a French registered architect to submit my Permis. No doubt my plans will also have to be redrawn, having spent some considerable time at the drawing board... Well, off to Vire and the surrounding areas in the half term to locate an architect, hopefully one who speaks a little english. Denis.
12. Hi folks, slight confusion on the 170 square metre rule. Can  someone more knowledgable than I explain! We have a long barn for renovation, total internal floor space 163.8 square metre (ground and attic) measured from the internal wall face. The problem however, is an attach extension some 30m square with its own access. The building do however share a common roof.  As stated, access is not possible from the barn. The question is, do I have to include this in the 170 square metre??. By the way, I was hoping to undertake the work myself. Your expertise welcome!. Denis (14)
13.
Has anyone tiled on Chipboard before and what did you use on for a sound surface.? ps I seem to posting every 5 minutes at the moment.
Tiling on chipboard is an absolute No!No!as far as I am aware. I have seen a number of properties where this method was adopted and failed miserably after a short time. The problem with chipboard is that it expands and contracts depending on moisture levels, not to mention the dreaded creaking at the joints and abutments. if you are looking for a longer lasting professional finish, I would recommend that you remove the chipboard and replace with 19mm ply. On the other hand, if this is not possible a cheaper alternative would be to overlay the chipboard with 6mm ply. You must remember to seal the surface including joints with "PVA". Good luck. Denis
14. Many thanks for your advice. As I thought, it will have to be a foss septic because of the availability of a rather large overgrown garden. Well, off to see the local marie next Friday. Denis (14)
15. Withe the imminent introduction of the new regulations governing the installation of foss septic. Can anyone answer a query on whether it is still possible to install a "cesspit/cesspool"; given that it is mainly a holding tank pending emptying by tanker when nearly full. Regards.... Menace.
