Fosse Septique in Somme Area

Hi there not sure if anyone can help

We are currently renovating a small house on the Somme/Pas de Calais border.

The house was in very poor condition when we bought it, and had been empty for 20 years. It had no water, electricity or any sanitation (fosse etc).

The work is coming along nicely, the roof has been repaired, new windows and doors, and a bathroom extension built.

The land that has come with the house is an awkward shape so we were unable to fit a conventional fosse with the horizontal appendages. We were given a quote for a fosse with a single deep vertical appendage. The cost of this was going to be in the region of 11,000 Euros[:(]

As our commune is supposedly going "tout a l'egout" along with the rest of France by 2012 we were hoping to fit a fosse a vider to save on such a major expense.

Unfortunately the Maire has refused our request on the grounds that he is unable to supply us with a certificate of conformity.

Obviously we don't want to spend 11,000 Euros on something that may well not be used in 5 years time.

Has anyone else experienced this type of problem???

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Rog and Jules
