1. Sorry guys I'm still slightly confused........just to confirm. To be able to get UK TV channels I need to get hold of a Sky Box and card?? We are on cable here in the UK.......so can I contact Sky and just buy a box and card or do they insist on installing it for you?? If not we could use our UK address for the correspondence and bring the Sky box over to France. Or is this totally illegal? And for my hubby to be able to receive French TV do we need to buy another box? So please correct me if I'm wrong but from what I can gather we to buy......... 1. HD ready TV 2. 60-80 satellite dish 3. Sky Box and Card for UK TV 4. A seperate digibox from Leroy etc to pick up French TV Is this right? Sorry if I'm being really thick JULES
2. Hi everyone New to the forum.............so sorry to ask this question...........but[:)] We have just finished renovating a little "get away" abode in Martinpuich........dept 62 Pas de Calais (fosse FINALLY!! being fitted in August) Now all the dirty work......and the fun bit of decorating is over we would like to watch a bit of TV Trouble is I haven't a clue where to start..............we are going to buy our TV from Gitem.........but thats as much as I know..........seriously!!! We want to be able to watch all the UK channels BBC1, 2 etc.......Channel 4, 5.......plus most of the digital channels E4, History Channel (why else would hubby buy a house on the Somme[;-)]). BUT..........hubby ALSO wants to watch French TV. So my questions are: 1. What do we need to buy to watch all the UK Channels, including the digital ones............and where is the best place to buy them? 2. What do we need to buy to watch French TV 3. I'm presuming reading a few of the threads...........we need some kind of boxes........and a dish...........should we attempt to fit these   ourselves (hubby DIY phobic). Or does anyone know of anybody that fits these systems in our area? ANY advice will be gratefully received.............MANY THANKS[8-|] JULES XXX
3. Hello anybody?????????????????????????????? Has anyone else out there had these kind of problems[8-)] JULES
4. I take it from everyones comments that this is going to be a very time consuming job, the plaster board has been well put up by our builder so hopefully this will help. At this rate it will be done by 2010 as we don't get over to the Somme that often, hence the work has been done by our British builder and French artisans. Hopefully one of our French neighbours down the road will be able to lend a hand[:)] All the pointing on the house needs doing as well I dread to think what the quote will be for something like that[blink] JULES
5.

Yes! And I also know of others that have had to pay similar amounts for seriously inferior work.
The above is slightly less useful than a chocolate frying pan, a bull's teats or a vote of thanks at an Annual General Meeting. You cannot price till you now how good underlying work is.  If you can do the dry lining to a  reasonable standard you do not need a pro for jointing.    it just needs a bit of patience and a lot of sanding blocks.
Cheers I think we'll have a go at doing it our selves then[:D] JULES XX Where on the Somme are you??
6. As mentioned in a previous post we are currently renovating a small house on the Somme. We have just had a quote for taping and jointing the house (which is very small) of 5000 Euros[:(] Is there anyone who lives in this area that has had taping and jointing done by an artisan and been pleased with it. JULES
7. Hi there not sure if anyone can help We are currently renovating a small house on the Somme/Pas de Calais border. The house was in very poor condition when we bought it, and had been empty for 20 years. It had no water, electricity or any sanitation (fosse etc). The work is coming along nicely, the roof has been repaired, new windows and doors, and a bathroom extension built. The land that has come with the house is an awkward shape so we were unable to fit a conventional fosse with the horizontal appendages. We were given a quote for a fosse with a single deep vertical appendage. The cost of this was going to be in the region of 11,000 Euros[:(] As our commune is supposedly going "tout a l'egout" along with the rest of France by 2012 we were hoping to fit a fosse a vider to save on such a major expense. Unfortunately the Maire has refused our request on the grounds that he is unable to supply us with a certificate of conformity. Obviously we don't want to spend 11,000 Euros on something that may well not be used in 5 years time. Has anyone else experienced this type of problem??? Any ideas would be gratefully received. Rog and Jules
