Painting over stained boards

Want to either emulsion or at least put a mett white finish on the ceiling which is boarded and the wood has been stained.

I have been told that there is a paint that can be used without the stain bleeding through.

What is it called please.

Thanks

Paul

Our bedrooms were ,as usual stained dark brown,or at least varnished dark brown.I rubbed down with wet and dry, using St Marc oxydrene, wiped off let dry.and then emulsioned white. No probs.  Maude.    At least it is bright and now light something not known to the locals.

I have the same dark brown stained ceilings in the house we are hoping to buy. If the mortgage ever comes through.....................!

In the UK I used 'Zinsser' which is excellent, there are various types depending on what you need to cover up .  I googled it and France and found :  http://www.britpaints.co.uk/Zinsser/zinsserpaintsfro.html   I haven't looked for it in any of the Brico sheds yet (although I found a fact sheet on the Zinisser  main website with a link to a french .pdf spec (which I have managed to lose, sorry!) So I suspect it must be stocked somewhere in France.

Due to a tendon problem in my shoulder I'm unable to manage much hand sanding and have to rely on light power tools and specialist primers for as much preparation as possible.

If you forget about emulsions all together....

Go for oil based white undercoat,  followed by a satin/eggshell white oil based paint for topcoat...

Effect is still white, but spongable etc in later years.

Its worked to good effect on several jobs I've done recently.
