Woodburner

Hi Everyone,

We have not long bought our property in Charente, near Villebois, and would now like to install a woodburner.  The local Godin shop in Angolueme has some nice fires but we want to guage if they are expensive as we can find the same Godin woodburners on the web for much less.

Does anyone on the forum supply and fit woodburners and would be prepared to visit for an inspection and chat to see what would suit our needs best?

Any replies via a PM very much appreciated.

Many thanks

Paul.

French fiscal residents get a 40-50% credit d'Impot, therefore there isn't much price competition. Also the retailers know that all the residence secondaire owners are around at the moment, and buying things like woodburners, so cheap is out! Speaking from our experience compared to some non resident acquientances, definitely buy the best quality burner you can afford, don't be seduced by the cheapo ones in the bricobodge warehouses. You certainly pay for what you get.

Hi we have been looking at woodburners to but the prices were a bit steep for the Godins (without the tax relief that is) but we have ordered a 11kw hunter stove from Mole Valley farmers in devon list price £820 special offer at £530

Basically the time to buy in the UK is now there are some good deals but the ony issue is they weigh in excess of 120kg so it wil be a bit of a load for our Picasso.

Btw a friend of ours bought a godin and there local chimney sweep fitted it for them.

We made some enquiries regarding a new Godin from a specialist shop in Cahors. The quotes price was considerably more that we had seen if for on the web but I'm not sure if we were making a correct comparison. As I understand we will get hit for maximum taxation on it... maison secondaire, under 2 years old, ... max TVA.  and of course, no tax rebate.

At the moment we've put the idea on the backburner (pun intended) [;-)]
