  1. Hi all, New to all this and it's probably been asked before, but could someone advise me on what the process is to register our Gite holiday business.  My questions are: If we are only providing self-catering holiday lets and long-term lets is the registration process different from that of  a business proving Table d'Hote If we decide to provide B&B and maybe Table d'Hote does anyone come and inspect the cooking facilities etc? not that this would be an issue, just interested in knowing. Does anyone know what the tax percentage on business income is? Our Mairie doesn't speak any English and asking some questions are bit hard going :-)  My french is improving but not that rapidly, might have to twist my Dad's arm again to come and be translator for me tee hee, he loves it really... Thanks in advance Rosie
  2. Hi Callie Thanks for the url, will check it out. Rosie
  3. Hi May (if work approves me for home working) be moving out to our house in Thiviers late spring/early summer.  Therefore, I'll be bringing my horse with me.  Does anyone know a good 'hot-shoeing' farrier in the area who would fit eggbar shoes? Will also need a good Equine vet.   Anyone know their standing on supplying a box full of Bute every 100 days :-)  Horses !!! who'd have them ehh.... Also would need a companion pony to keep her company, any chances of borrowing a little cutie that won't beat her up?  Although she's 15.2hh she's a bit or a wimp!! Also may be offering Livery with rental accommodation for Brits looking for homes in the Dordogne area, keep your eyes peeled for anymore of my posts. thanks for your advice in advance.... Rosie
  4. Hi, just saw your post!!  bit late I know but I'm new to the site. That's a laugh, we had 2 French non-paying tenants, one of which we had to evict and took us 2 years and lots of money and the other did a moonlight flit!!  Apparently it's the French that have a bad name from what we can make out as long term tenants (although I guess they are around in every walk of life).  Anyway, they weren't our choice, we unfortunately inherited them from the dodgey bloke who sold us our house :-) lovely house mind.  We hope our choice in people is better :-) Hope you found somewhere anyway, we are going to look in to offering long terms lets in our property this coming year...
  5. Good luck with long-term letting.  We unfortunately had a very bad tenant which we inherrited from the previous owner.  He was a non payer of both rent and utilities and it took around around £2,000 and 2 years to get him out through the french legal system.  Place was stripped bare of all appliances and log burner and we are now getting back payments of rent via the french legal system 20 euro here and 40 euros there!  It was very stressful and the state the cottage was left in was, well what can I say "a health hazard"  YUK!  Beware the tenants have more clout than the owners, hence there are so many empty properties in france! Still I'm sure there are people with happier tales. Good luck :-)
