  1. Hi i thought it a little odd but was only querying an earlier thread, driving in the uk, no problem for on french plates, as we will have full insurance cover, we had no problem with our american registered car that we brought in from Washington state, it was eventually registered in Uk as will be the citroen.
  2. Thanks for the info, We are in the process of buying the car, we fly down and collect the car on the 3 sep, and are driving it back to the uk, we will take 3-4days to drive up to Dieppe. Gardian, no we were driving north with the rest of france on the motorway, we didn't know about the meet, but thanks for the info, I am sure that hubby will check the next one out, but I hope that we will be living permanently in 47 by then. Polly, Do you know of the possibility that old cars need not be re registered, this is the first that we've heard?
  3. We have just bought a 1952 citroen traction, not en collection,  the car is registered in 33, has the original shaped plate on the rear drivers side back wing and the curved shaped plate on the front, both of these have painted numbers on, when we come to register the car in 47 will we get the new style registration numbers  or will they issue the old fashioned style in keeping with the car. It seems that in France they change their minds quite frequently as to what style plates they are using.... or am I wrong here....
  4. As promised , Have just returned from a month in France, and would like to keep you up to date on our fly and pong problem. No flies in our loft, until we use the loos in the house that is, it would appear that we may have got 2 birds with one stone... We had an awful smell up there, something dead or rotting, hence the  loads of flies, well it would appear that our loft bathroom had no stink pipe, and the smell would work its way back into the loft, then the flies appear. So our plumber has fitted a stink pipe up thru the roof from the sewage pipe, and voila, pong and flies gone. He also told us that whenever we return to the house to drop a septic tank sachet down the loo before we use it. I bought some I think it is called eparcyl. Thanks Mr plombier, good old fashioned gent he was. He also told us off, we have been decorating since the day we got the house, every day for I don't know how long, and yes we know, emulsion shold not be tipped down the drain, but we did, and we won't any more...
  5. Thanks for the info BUT we are back in the UK, and did not have this info available to us in France, we have no internet there, so am I right in saying that to activate /de activae the number one has to have a 4letter/number code that yiou register with 3000, and is best done from the res secondaires phone line..
  6. Hi anyone please help, we have just returned from France and we want to disconnect the Ligne Residence Secondaire from the UK. have tried 0033 1 55 78 60 56, and the message comes back with an 0800 number, this no workie from UK have any of you got a different number that might help me please.....
  7. ONLY the Brits would understand this type of humour, great stuff
  8. Morning sweet 17 Have had my VW passat estate since new, and am very pleased with it, BUT, there has tobe a but, it needs servicing about every 10,000miles and at around 80,000 miles needs a new cambelt, which is quite an expensive service, so make sure its not approaching the magic number of 80K or 160K as you are into a lot of £'s. Cruises FULLY loaded with a roof rack at around 80mph and averages about 47mpg,
  9. Good morning Boy oh boy, what is going on here, someone asks/posts an innocent question about a pool problem, and Poolguy being very well qualified to answer (unsolicited), plus many others who are not qualified add their bit, and  we are all at each others throats... heavens above if Poolguy is able to assist why can't he, after all , most of the time its free advice. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE.
  10. morning Ame have had a look at Cert Immatriculation,  this was issued on the 29jun2006,  there is no stamp on the back. We had to get a new Cert Imma, as the car had to have the number plates changed to area 47, it is en collection, -not that matters now-. I get the sneeky feeling that we are going to have some fun getting the CT done when we are down next in France. Has anyone had any experience of going through this particular problemo, or am I barking up the wrong tree!
  11. Hello We  bought a couple of years ago a 1960 citroen fourgon, and we were looking through the paperwork and wondered what had happened to the CT, we have not taken it for CT since we bought the car, and was checking that we had a valid one, but what does the CT document look like, can anyone post a copy of one please, what happens if we don't have one, can we just go along and make an appointment and get one from the CT center?
  12. Hello Briwy Sorry to hear that you are having problems with LD lines, have you actually written to them and explained the situation you found yourself in, normally the tickets/bookings are non refundable, we have in the past  had to change our crossings, and found them tobe very helpful, with the refund being used as a credit towards our next crossing.
  13. Hi Baypond CHECK that the matresses you buy in France will fit your beds from England, this also applies to bed linen especially fitted sheets, the sizes are different.....
  14. Hello to you all Well you have given us some ideas and next time we are down we'll look them up. We do have a few black out blinds for the velux, but as yet have not got round to fitting them, that will be a must do, interesting about the red top thingy, will get one of those. The original loft floor, which is also the ceiling  to the room underneath is a hard wood floor, covered with some sort of underlay and then fitted with chip board panels, which in turn we will be covering with a laminate. The walls are all placo as indeed is the ceiling, just the beams exposed. If we were living in the house permanently the electric zappers are fine we are not, YET, leaving zappers permanently plugged in is dangerous in my opinion, as acquaintances found out when they returned to their home after a holiday, and found much of it destroyed. I'll let you know how we get on, but that won't be till Augustish when we return. Thanks
  15. Good morning dog, Thank you for the reply, the floor in the loft has been recently fitted and laid on top of the wooden floor that was there originally. the velux are closed nearly all the time, and only opened when we visit the house. I have checked as well as I can and there appears tobe no 'fly eggs' I believe they look like grains of rice. Do you think if I got one of those fumigators for fleas it may do the trick, I know flies and fleas are not connected, but have got to do something. I understand about the dead flies in empty properties, but this is a very clean loft room, and is swept, vacuumed and cleaned every time before we leave, and there appears tobe no flying insects when I close the door after emtying a whole spray of fly and wasp killer, can flies live off the dead ones? What a thought, nearly as bad as a  Hitchcock movie going on upstairs. Has anyone any other ideas, even mad silly ones!
  16. Hello there, don't know where to post this, so if it is the wrong please accept my apologies. we are swatting mad! We have a home in 47, and the loft has been converted into a room with full bathroom, and velux windows. The house at the moment is only used occaisionaly, and the velux are only opened from time to time. The area is empty, I have swept, cleaned, washed, vacuumed and sprayed with all sorts of supermarket bought fly killers, and YET the flies always come back. Bags full of dead ones and some still buzzing about. Can anyone recommend a product that would control these pests, maybe some sort of fumigator?  I know that flies can be a problem at certain times of the year, but these are a real health hazard,  nasty useless critters, in my humble opinion...  No offence meant
  17. Hi there well we are at last getting round to do something with the back of our home near Duras. At the moment it is earth, and lots of it, we have had an under ground oil tank fitted and new fosse septique, with huge mounds of earth, now we need to have the  ground flattened with a slight incline away from the house. Also we want to have the earth removed from the sides of the house so that we can put a shingle sort of drain area, that way the rain water can be directed away from the house towards the ditch or pond, would we engage a paysagiste for this, does anyone have any experience of such a service. thanks
  18. Does anyone have any views on the service  offered by UKTelecom! Would very much like to hear them. Thanks
  19. Hi The electrician/plumber is quite well known in the area and his small business  is very busy, we were recommended to him by various individuals. All of his other work as far as we can tell is good, just that towards the end of the job he got a little fed up of working on the site. Our query was not necessarily to go down the legal path, but to find an alternative way, maybe to contact his local mairie or chambre de commerce, has anyone had any experience in doing this.
  20. OK no answers, well how about if I word this another way, the house was checked out an everything seemed ok electrical wise that is, and it is only now that we go to wire our track lights that the pieces of wire hanging from the ceiling are not working, BUT 2 of these wire connections do work, it is the others that do not, And we assumed ,like any one would do, that if the light bulbs worked on the two of them, that were fitted by the electrician,  the others would also be connected even though there were no bulb fittings attached. Is this unreasonable.....
  21. We engaged a siret registered electrical company to install electrics throughout our house, including 4 ceiling outlets for track lighting. We now find when we come to connect the lighting that there is no electrical power to some of the outlets ( all circuit breakers have been checked ). The artisan has failed to respond to telephone calls and we are in the process of writing to him, what should we do next if we do not get a satisfactory conclusion ? He has been paid in full.
  22. Hi there can anyone tell me if I am correct in reading somewhere that the 8 May is a holiday in France, if it is, are any of the supermarkets open in the Duras, Lot et Garonne area. Many thanks
  23. Hi, We want to buy an old car (1951) in the Gironde, that has a current Carte Gris Normale, and valid CT. We then want to register the car to our address in the Lot et Garonne, and then drive it back to the UK on the new registration plates.. Can we do the transfer of documents in the Gironde to our address in the Lot et garonne, or do we have to go to Agen to do this. Are the documents issued straight away. This may sound odd, but we live in the UK, and my OH would like to purchase this old banger which  will be driven in the UK for a while and then take it back to France.. Many thanks
  24. Hi Teapot Have you had any luck with Aquastone/tec, you mentioned that you were going to visit a site where they would be working, and wondered if you had any further info about the finish, was it any good ? Would very much like to know thanks
  25. Tea pot thanks for the link, does anyone know if the Aquatec  is available in France.
