Well, I have to say that I thought that what you’ve described was ‘banned’.

Tell me that I’m wrong somebody.

We cancelled our Christmas in the UK with family & friends and Nick is saying that actually it was all OK !

Absolutely Gardian as I reported, just a word of warning though do not seek info from "Doris" on fakebook, although I'm sure you don't. There is an awful lot of misinformation on social media, mainly from people who have holiday homes in the UK who only research their own situations and think it applies to everybody including French residents.

  3. If you have UK passports you can travel to the UK, if you also have a CdS you can travel back to France, subject of course to you filling out the correct forms. We travelled to the UK in December and back to France last week, no problems at all apart from fulfilling the co-vid test requirements wrist ache from filling out the forms,

I do hope you are able to get over here soon, HD.

@ Gluestick...I appreciate the points you make, although the statistics in the link I posted are a little more up-to-date ?.  But Brits aren't the only second-home owners to buy in France, either.  Perhaps it's just this region, but the Dutch and Belgian part-timer presence is very high.  I'm sure we're agreed that where there are holiday-home owners, there'll be family and friends visiting...all grist to the mill.

Back to M Le Président....perhaps he's badly advised or simply doesn't realise  how important the Brit input is/was?  I wouldn't be surprised, because expecting someone in his position to be even remotely 'in touch' with the realities in France outside of Paris is laughable.  Perhaps he considers the sabre-rattling and posturing for the benefit of Brussels to be more worthwhile  (for him at least) than placating the potential bearers of  Brit expenditure?

"British buyers continue to dominate the list of international owners of French property, accounting for around one third of all foreign owned second homes in France, according to a recent French Government study. The study showed that there were 2.9 million second homes in France, around 10% of the total housing stock." I know a few Dutch second home owners and they bring everything with them and hardly shop in France at all.

As the person who made the remark I feel I can comment! I made the 'pig ignorant' post in response to what I perceived as a direct  insult from you. You interjected into a 'conversation' with your 'smart' post, you didn't try to add to the conversation or even refer to it, still haven't as far as I can see. You just posted to make an objectionable remark. Now you try and act the offended one! Had you not made your 'clever' remark this conversation wouldn't be happening. Everyone has a responsibility regarding 'offensive' posts and that should include people like you who make provocative remarks and when responded to, cry crocodile tears!

There's a distinct difference between a perceived "smart" comment and an abusive one. Still, I'll leave this here and say no more on the subject as it appears that you just can't stop with the snide comments, it's obviously your way, well cocker it 'aint mine. So let's agree to ignore each other in the future.

As I have suggested previously, such personal differences ought to be aired by PM, not on the open forum.

That's easy to say, but you haven't been called pig ignorant on an open forum. I think we might have discovered a refugee from another forum. It's not surprising that several old valued members have voted with their feet, and I'm sure they won't be the last.

I think your scenario could come to pass. I doubt that MLP would be P.M. though. There is no doubt in my mind that Zemmour is extremely bright and saying all the 'right' things. Things that a great number of people agree with but feel reluctant to say so because he is branded a 'racist' by the left. I do hope he makes it to the second round and further more I would like him to be President. France could do with a 'Eric Trump'!!!! Now that would be very interesting!

Wow, and you called me pig ignorant. Rock on Tommy. LOL

    I can only speak for myself of course. I don't have a dog (does four cats count,) and perish the thought of SKY or U.K. telly!  Fortunately my life style never depended on selling a house in the U.K. I would agree with you completely that most French people would be agog at British pensions and their general financial arrangements. Despite what some ex pats may say here!! I feel sure that your basic premise regarding what the indigenous population does on a daily basis, at least compared to retired ex pats is concerned, is probably correct but that still doesn't, in my view explain why people are not interested in politics to at least a rudimentary level. Laws are made (and promised) that affect us, speed limits, vaccinations, immigration and God know what else. All this has a basis in politics and what politicians promise. We can't vote but that shouldn't mean you switch your brain off from what is happening around you. Many here criticise Macron, haven't read a word that is complimentary in fact! Like wise Zemmour. I would have thought that if there was going to be the sort of bad language regarding them, or anyone else for that matter then at. least an interest in what their policies are is required. People do care a **** but it would seem only as far their own little British bubble is concerned and that I feel, is pathetically poor;

As you said: "I can only speak for myself of course" Maybe you should have left it there?

Still on the plus side Boris has proclaimed they will remove the passports of illegal class A drug users!

A quiet bizarre thing for Boris to try to do, why not go all the way and remove passports for all criminals? How long will the passport ban last, will your passport be stamped, junkie or crook?

Strange how quickly the daily deaths become the new norm.  100 a day at present in the UK, about half that in France.

It depends on how deaths are reported, UK death figures are people who die having tested positive in the last 28 days, a fair percentage of those people usually have other problems the French don't say how their figures are arrived at.

….but with the sharp rise in gas prices I expected a much bigger heating bill after my refill on 22/11 but, oh joy, oh happiness, the bill is actually over 10% lower than last year. It seems that my covid meanness has paid off. Now I can go out and buy thick pullovers and long johns for the visiting daughter who treat my heating thermostat with such disdain! Just joking.

Funnily enough we received a credit on our last direct debit payment for electricity for 2020, and next years DDs have gone down slightly for each month.

Very glad to hear from you, Doudoune. Relieved as we thought you might have got the virus. Hope your residual problems are sorting themselves.  Most of the regulars are here except Nimt, even Norman who growls away sometimes. We are settling to the new software which none of us likes but gift horses and all that. Do keep posting now that you have found us again.

Interestingly enough, when I first looked at the new format, I was unhappy and surprised, probably due to the fact like a lot of "oldies" I don't like change. Now though, I've sorted out and got used to how it works, I think it has actually livened up the forum and added new people. Yes, sorry to see a couple of old faces not here yet, but fingers crossed that is only temporary. Great to see you again Idun.

I think that has more to do with hiding the contents from potential thieves during transit - what the eye doesn't see it doesn't covet etc.

Good call, but I looked at the original box, it's just Amazon, nothing to say what the contents are. Oh only other information on the outside of the original box, of course Made in China. Whether that's the box or the contents who knows.?

  14. I think that the fact that Amazon are promoting their own credit card may have something to do with the change of conditions, or of course it's a negotiation ploy to get the charges down, as Amazon obviously are not earning enough.  ? They could save money on packaging, I ordered a new paper shredder it arrived in the normal Amazon box, when I opened it I found the Shredder, in its original box, also an Amazon one.

I bow to your understanding of the french language. To me his comment in French didn't make sense, I didn't translate it the way the "Connexion" did, still as they are often wrong, who knows?  ?
