We're from Norwich ALBF and it's a great place to live, if you've never been there you wouldn't understand - 90 minutes from London, the coast is 45 mins away, loads of things to do, two universities, a modern hospital, low crime rate, a decent football club and tons of restaurants, bars, cafes etc.
"A decent football club" Have you watched them lately? ?

I would think that most people on this forum are well aware of where to buy their wine. I buy mine in he supermarkets, not everybody choice but I've found some very reasonably priced wines that I like, and that is all that counts. Buying because of the label is I think a mugs game and possibly those that do have more money than sense.

I took baby ALBF and French OH to the UK for a long weekend. It was wonderful. It was wonderful.
Forget politics, Brexit and all the rest. It is the same shÏT in France. For crying out loud. ? It is worse in France if you pay attention. Not that many do.
But you know, the UK IS is a fantastic country with fantastic people. Everyone are so polite. It was such a pleasure to be there.
Why do peeps living in France beat the UK down ?
I don't get it.
A lot of them do it to try to prove that they are more French than other immigrants. Some do it to convince themselves that they have made the right choice in emigrating to France, because they now couldn't afford to go back to the UK, so they are stuck. Some do it just because they miserable old gits.

Idun, it's great to hear from you, I hope things work out better for you in the future, fondest regards

We filled our car up today with diesel at a local supermarket. 1.88 a litre. We then drove to Le Mans and noticed that there; Diesel was 1.99.9 a litre at a couple of garages. I would imagine the Gendarmes will be out in force next week, looking for "Red" diesel in peoples vehicle tanks. ?

No sirens ever in our village or anywhere as far as we know in the Loir et Cher. Indeed, we were in Vendome our nearest big town today, no sirens. So it looks like if it all goes pear-shaped, in our little corner of the world we will be quiet safe. Phew!!! That's a relief. ? ?

Is anybody aware of any organisations in France starting to collect clothing etc for Ukrainian refugees.

LeHaut, if you in the french tax system then you're "visible". We don't get or are eligible for a French pension but submit French tax returns. We got the money last month. It is of course income based.

Apparently you were a pain in the ****, can't see it myself.?
From what I can work out, anybody who doesn't agree with the Scots mafia who run that "organisation" gets banned. I'm not a member but do lurk occasionally to see how the other half thinks, It's quiet amusing and slightly scary.?
-
No problem, when the Scots get independence Nicola will sort it all out. ? ?

Power OK here in Barnes. Storm winds slated to start dropping round here about 1800 hrs.
Walking by the river briefly a couple of hours ago, it would not have been wise to wear a wig. How would transplants have fared I wonder?
Woolyone as you seemed to delete two other posts made today, could you please now delete mine as it no longer makes sense.

Obvious reason really, there's plenty of work in the UK for young French people. Plus retired UK people can sell their UK homes, buy cheaply in France and live nicely on the equity. French sell up they could just about afford a garage or garden shed in the UK. ? ?

Is this the same as the fluorescent tube trick?
When you take a fluorescent tube bulb under transmission power lines it lights up because the current running through them induces an alternating magnetic field around them as they conduct electricity. The higher the voltage, the greater the magnetic field density and the brighter the fluorescent tube will glow.

Pro/anti vaxx is an emotive subject, in my house if you're not vaccinated you can't come in, simple.

Yep Covid is in the ALBF household and everyone has it....well apart from me for the moment.
Top ALBF tip.....DO NOT go anywhere near children. They are spreading it.
When schools started back my daughters class had 30 kids. By the end of the first week it was 15.
It is ripping through schools.
I am guessing most schools around here will be closed by Monday.
But they never should have opened so soon in the first place. You think the UK goverenment is bad. They are not a patch on Macron's government. Which is why teachers are striking ? Any striking teachers in the UK ? Ummm....no.
Our 3 year old is suffering the worse. He is quite ill. Obviously the only one that has not been vacinated.
So get vaccinated if you are not already.
BTW.......if IBIS is reading, Smegie (the good guy) 'asked through forum support' to leave the Expat forum. I just had enough of arguing the toss.
It just showed up banned on my forum name because that is the defult setting I guess.
Just for the record. ?
I see forums are still being forums. There is so much to discuss in France but they still prefer to discuss themselves. ?
Take care of that baby and all of the family ALBF. Stay safe my friend.

NickP, I did not know before reading this thread that Lloyds offered COVID testing for travel. Looking on their website I have found test in store LFD tests for £29.99 and test at home for £20 - £25. Please tell me how to get it for free. Maybe it has changed since your good fortune.
Lloyds seem to offer tests in all my local pharmacies but Boots are expecting me to complete a 70 mile round trip to Portsmouth to receive their in store test costing £19.99.I was winding up ALBF. Don't get excited as you won't need it soon anyway. ? ? Be aware though that although Lloyds website offers tests, when I went into my local one who the web site says did them, they said no we don't, so I had to go further afield

It only really works if France does the same otherwise you still have to buy and book rip-off tests in the UK to return.
It really is quite stupid.
Not true, we paid nothing to get our 24 hr tests in the UK in Lloyds pharmacy for our return to France. We also got free test kits in the UK.

Bloke in a pub with his chums, all a bit peed, says;
"There's only two good things ever came from Wales!"
"What are they?" asked a chum.
"Rugby players; and loose women!"
A very large guy at the end of the bar, says, "Oi! You with the mouth! I'll have you know my wife is Welsh!"
"Really? says the talker: "What position does she play?"
