Anyway ........... setting aside the asylum processing system.

What did everybody think about the the whole Coronation thing?

    My (very personal) view:

    • The Abbey service was too long (by 20 mins or so) and the Archbishop of Canterbury’s sermon was unmemorable
    • The military turnout was exemplary - nothing to add to that
    • Shame about the weather, particularly for the people & the flypast
    • The Concert was really good in parts - Lionel Ritchie & Take That in particular.
    • BBC coverage excellent

Ditto to most of what you said: I thought Lionel Richie wasn't up to his normal standard, Take That? not on my radar.  Andrea Bocelli and Sir Bryn Terfel's performance of YNWA, excellant. I thought the military musicians were superb, and I bet they loved playing in a very different scenario to their daily grind. The BBC do these huge occasions wonderfully well, the whole show was beautifully lit and the lighting effects with the drones towards the end fabulous, a big hats of to the drone operators. A shame that the BBC doesn't do the normal daily shows with the same skill, but there is a reason. For these huge prestigious events they will bring in the best people of all crafts that are available and not worry about the cost. For everyday tele, the bean counters are in charge and often for budgetary reasons inexperienced technicians are used as they are cheaper, and it shows on the screen. I also thought Charles and Camilla plus the family did really well especially little Louis.

Great information as Dubai's property market also caters to a diverse range of investment opportunities. With the help of da mumbo jumbo property company,of Bangoon, buyers and sellers can navigate this dynamic market with ease and confidence, ensuring a seamless and profitable transaction.

A question did you flunk geography at school? I think your marketing department should indulge in some research and establish your target market a little more in your favour.

At the end of 2022 their were 166000 people stuck in the 'asylum backlog', this has nothing to do with illegal boat crossings.

So are you saying that the illegal boat people are not claiming asylum?

I agree with the principle that the state pension should be means tested. Why should the rich be subsidised in their retirement? As to a compulsory private pension, how is that different from the state pension apart from the fact that private pension providers have to please shareholders. There would have to be some government oversight otherwise it would be open to mismanagement.

It's very simple, if you have paid in for it you are entitled to it. It doesn't matter what your assets are. If you pay your dues why should you be penalised because maybe you didn't spend your money on foreign holidays, big screen TVs or expensive phones etc but saved your money to make your future more secure.

Well, it now looks like that everyody on the forum is being deluged with advice on the worlds airlines on how to leave the country, I wonder if it's time to say goodbye to this forum which has been a good friend and sometimes good fun. Will the publishers bother to fight the trolls?

The silence is deafening. So it looks like the idiots have won, what a shame?

  6. A little pat on the back for the sterling work by the moderators. Just lately the world, his brother/sister/them are joining the forum  and don't seem to be active unless they are selling their services. Some of which are quite bizzare. Well done everybody

So they are saying that a .25% rise in interest rates has increasded his mortgage by nearly £750 a month? I don't think so

In 1988 although I earned good wages well above the average, I took a gamble and got a mortgage right on the limit of my finances.  Within one year the interest rate had gone from 8% to 16% my morgage payments of course increased, but not by 300% as the one quoted by the BBC. As for French mortgages, I can't say as I've never had one.

Watching the BBC yesterday about another hike in the mortgage rate in the UK.  Some poor chap was paying £250 a month and now its nearly £1000 (according to the report).

When we bought this flat in 2017, we negotiated with the bank and got the loan a 1% fixed for the life of the mortgage, regardless of any changes.

Why can France/Europe get this so right when, on the face of it, the UK subject house buyers to this stress?

So they are saying that a .25% rise in interest rates has increasded his mortgage by nearly £750 a month? I don't think so

  9. I received and E/Mail this morning claiming to be from Assurance Maladie, saying someone had made a connection with my account the previous evening, with the usual click here request. When I get things like this I always check the sending address, it was non-reply assurance Maladie. The body of the E/Mail had all the same graphics as the genuine site, but, me being a suspicious old git opened my browser, went to the Ameli site and logged in as normal, sure enough no messages for me. She who must be obeyed said, Oh there was a article in the The Connexion about this. Now, there is more chance of a Liverpool supporter reading the Sun newspaper as me reading the Connexion, but for once they maybe got it right. So just from me; a warning about this scam, it looked incredibly genuine. Be careful folks.

    Hi.

I have a feeling my old Corsa will fail it's upcoming CT - the engine warning light is on, and the fault code indicates the fuel mixture is out of spec. As I understand it, the "contre-visite" needs to be done within 2 months of the original.

    I have two questions:

    a) Will the car automatically fail because the engine light is on, even if the emissions are within the numbers allowed for that car, and

    b) In this situation (ie not a major safety fault) can one (legally) drive the car during that 2 months before the contre-visite?

    Many thanks for any help.

The only person to answer is the CT centre, I suggest you visit and ask them

les défaillances mineures, qui n’entraînent aucune obligation

les défaillances majeures, qui entraînent une contre-visite

les défaillances critiques, qui entraînent une interdiction de circuler

minor failures, which do not give rise to any obligation for a return visit                                                                                     major failures, which lead to a return visit                                                                                                                                     critical failures, which lead to a traffic ban

  11. A question to the language experts on this forum, I was looking at my car files and I noticed on my latest CT certificate a Defaillances mineures: Ripage excessif. I looked in my French /English dictionaries and could not find the word Ripage, I looked on line and the only explanation was slippage, which maybe so, but doesn't explain what of. Any ideas you clever people. Thanks in advance.

And is she equipped to store the Covid vaccine at the correct temperature ?

Do you think  that a pharmacist  (not "someone in a pharmacy" to use your disparaging term)  is less well qualified than a Nurse?   (Pour être pharmacien, il faut être titulaire du DE de docteur en pharmacie.Les études durent entre 6 et 9 ans selon la spécialité choisie (6 ans pour les spécialités officine )

    😇

I will ignore your sneering comment, after all it's just a cheap shot. Get back in your barrel.

  13. I had my 5th Co-vid jab and flue jab the same day, a couple of weeks ago. My wife just asked a local Pharmacy and they gave me and her an appointment. Hers was only flue as I have a child bride.  🥰 Normally we collect the flue jab and my wife a retired nurse does the necessary not only for me but often our friends and neighbours. We wore masks at our appointment out of respect for the Nurse.

  14. I'm not or ever have been a Liz Truss fan but,  I'm appalled by the vitriolic attacks by the British Media, I think they have forced her into very unwise decisions, and the support from some of the members of her own party who obviously believed the propaganda didn't help. I wonder who next they will continue to heap their hate on in a bid to increase their ever decreasing circulation figures.

Sorry, I don't do social media so cannot check.  However, I have also read it in an interview she gave at the time of the leadership contest.  The champagne episode was also recounted by her; it was when she heard that she had won.

If you are an instagram fan, why not check up and enlighten us?

" Sorry I don't do social media" Ah OK, so what is this forum then? Personally, I  never said I'm an Instagram fan, in fact I don't use it at all, so I'm sorry I can't enlighten you, but why would I?  I was just asking for facts instead of maybe's or might be.
