1. Yes I did this this morning after reading your tip. Thanks. It's not working any more though  [:(]
2. Yikes ... it's getting worse and we fear an abcess. Can anybody recommend an English or English-speaking dentist near Limoges, Bellac, Oradour sur Glane ... that sort of area.... but if further that's fine.
3. Thanks for all of the replies folks.  What a helpful lot you are! Yes, the check up is in the UK next week.  He particularly wants to see his dentist of many years standing as the offending tooth is next to the back two which were removed a couple of years ago.  He had a problem with this same tooth a while back (he jarred it on a walnut shell which had not been removed from a restaurant meal).  As he is barely 40 his dentist was very keen that he didn't loose this tooth too... in fact if it didn't settle down she felt he needed root canal work to avoid an extraction [+o(]   Happily it did settle down on that occassion. So, as it's the same tooth and as there is a bit of history there, he wants to see his own dentist.... especially as our French isn't great .... this isn't the time to have a language barrier or miscommunication. But we will keep a careful eye on it in case it is an absses .... I had one a couple of years ago ... it was a pain only my enemies should know!!  [:P] I gave him a large glass of my best brandy last night and expected him to swirl it around his mouth and tooth .... bamm!  down in one!  He also had cloves in his mouth.  He's really not one to complain about pain and I really feel for him..... he's even off his cups of tea !
4. I've just got a speeding fine through the post.  I'll pay the fine immediately so I just pay 90 Euros right ... rather than the 135 Euros if after 15 days. I also got a Formulaire de requete en exoneration with the license.  I'm assuming I just fill this in if I'm asking for exoneration ... which I'm not - hands up, guilty as charged. My main concern is  points.  Will I be informed of points later?  My driving license is a UK one and is registered to my UK address (although I live in France).  My understanding is that I can't get points from France on my UK license.  Is that right?  I understand that I can be instructed to change my license over to a French on though. Any info and advice would be grateful received.
5.
If it doesn't have a rating plate, then suggest you contact the chap whose wagon if fell off the back of [;-)]
That'll be Mr Bricolage then!   thanks for the plate into ... it's been switched on since yesterday afternoon and is still only hand hot ... not hot enough to wash dishes well.
6. Can one buy oil of cloves or a gel to rub in the gums to allieviate toothache please?  Is something available from the chemist? My husband had got a toothache come out of nowhere and he's in a lot of pain.  He has a pre-existing dental check up appointment in a week or so, so we need something to tide him over until then. Thanks
7.
never use pva on a surface prior to tiling ....only ever use manufacturers recommended tile primers if the surface requires it.....
Can anybody tell me a brand name of such a tile primer please?  ..... something I could get in Bricomarche or similar....... I was about to use PVA  [Www]   Thanks
8.
IKEA  - one Euro !!
NO!!!!   what a bargain ... but will it last more than a week?!  I'll try it and see  [:)]
I think if you were to look in any larger supermarket kitchenware dept you will find an olive/cherry stoner.
I've already done that and couldn't find any.
9. What literature!!  [:@] Thanks for the info  [:)]
10. I've just installed a new 300l chauffe-eau .... has anybody installed one recently who can tell me roughly how long it will take to heat for the first time. Cheers
11. does anybody know where I can get one? thanks
12. I've just been given a census type leaflet to complete and return to the Marie.  My question is - is this obligatory to complete?   Thanks
13. I've been online and printed off a planning application ..... does anybody have a link for an application for CoU? Cheers
14. thanks Claire.  does that apply to all shops?  ie supermarkets, garden centres ... as well as boutiques etc. Thank you
15. My brother's friend is a registered plumber and has offered me some work with him (as a basic helper-out-erer). He's said he can pay me by cheque d'emploi (I think they are called).  I understand he pays a fixed amount for them and I get a lesser amount.  Can I pay these cheques into my bank account? What exactly does the deducted portion go towards?  Do I still then need to pay tax on the remaining amount and how do I go about this?  It woulnd't be for a significant amount - just a bit of pin money now and again, mostly to help my brothers pal out!  On that note ... can anybody tell me (roughly) what a fair wage for such a days work would be?
16. Could somebody help me with a few questions please.  I am now living in France and have an E106 for the time being.   How do I get healthcare in France, ie, if I need to go to the doctor for a minor ailment?  Do I need to register with a specific doctor (as in the UK)?  If so, how do I do this (I'm sure I'll need dozens of official documents and current facilies bills!!) Are the medical records my UK doctor holds transfered to France? (they would be of little use of course as they will all be in English)  If not, what happens to them? Am I entitled to visit the my UK doctor when I am in my old hometown?  Am I entitled to visit a UK doctor when visiting people in other parts of the UK?   I don't have any existing, or expected, problems - but it would be useful to know in advance what I need to do.   Thanks
17. I need to buy some 4mm safety float glass panes to replace some glazing.  My local BricoMarche has a glass section .... what do I need to ask for?  thanks
18. Thanks for all the replies folks. I've used it externally - do I need to paint over it?  or is it a finished surface in itself?   (It was a b*****d to apply!  I won't be using it again!)
19.
try this, it is in French though http://www.brico.be/wabs/fiches/pdf/fr/3-4.pdf
Thanks.   but can anybody tell me, in English, what crepi is, and how it differs from paint.   thanks  [:D]
20. I'm finding cheese very boring!  [:-))]   All the ones I've tried have been a variation on a theme (soft, bland) so I'm not encouraged to try more.  I'm looking for recommendations of tasty cheeses - strong flavours.  I like roquefort, St Agur etc as they have a good strong taste.  I've tried Munster, which has quite a strong flavour.  Anybody who had tried some of the stronger, more powerful cheeses .. please share the name with me. Thanks very much
21. I went to my supermarket and DIY store today expecting to pick up lots of bargains of all of the Xmas tut.  But it's all gone!  Packed away and sent back where it came from - I was gutted (my husband is quite pleased though!). Does anywhere have Xmas sales?  How about Gamm Vert and the like. I need to spend some money!!!!!
22. Do I need to use a special fire-retardant paint in my fireplace (back and side walls) or can I use ordinary emulsion/silk?  The (very) old paintwork which was there when I bought the property is certainly not specialist paint and seems to have stood the test of time well.  I've got a paint I want to use as it's the perfect colour ---- but is it safe! I have a large fireplace with a medium size wood burner in it, so there is plenty of space around it.
23. could anybody tell me exactly what crepi is please?  can i use it the same as exterior paint? probably a stupid question, but you only know what you know!
