  1. Hi, I have a US V-star which will be arriving in France in a couple of weeks.  I have just imported my car (UK) and asked the prefecture what to do about the bike.  The say to take it to the DRIRE for inspection and a certificate (not a c of c but their equivalent). I'll let you know if I am successful.  Fingers crossed!  A number of bikers seem to just advise selling your bike and buying a French one, they obviously have more time/money and do not become attached to their bikes!  In addition to which I can only find Suzuki dealler within a 50 mile radius anyway!  I'll know it could be the luck of the drawer as to whether my or your bikes are OK but it may give you a glimse of hope if I manage it!
  2. The reason I had an import was not to be exotic or different, its to be cheap!  Its exactly the same as the dragstar used to be, viragos and dragstars don't seem to be made anymore, and I couldn't afford anything else.  Same goes for why I can't afford to sell it and buy another in France, but at this rate I'll not be able to afford to import it either & have to drive a Citroen Diane or something...was looking forward to biking in France...
  3. It not that I didn't bother reading your reply, I've been in France (funnily enough!) trying to sort out schools, go for job interviews etc, sorry I didn't reply of course the info is gladly accepted.
  4. Went to a dealler & they want €343 for a headlight for my bike (Dragstar) & €300 for one for the OH's Bandit.  This being approx x4 UK equivalent we were somewhat shocked!  Does anyone know of an online breakers? I'm still trying to get a straight answer for importing my US import from the UK too - the US/French embassy say I've to pay £1000 VAT!
  5. I'm struggling to find out how to import my Yamaha US motorcycle.  Yamaha say they can give (I use the term "give" loosely for £70) a letter to say it is now a legit UK import originally from the US but not a Certificate of Conformity.  All the help stuff on the internet say useful things like "if your vehicle is a US import it is too complicated to go into here" !!  Surely someone else must have imported a no EU vehicle at some time?!  I don't think my Franglais is up to a phone call the the prefecture!  Can anyone pleeeeeeease help me
  6. I'm trying to import a Suzuki & a Yamaha (US) and have asked Suzuki UK for a COC for the Bandit to be told the only suply them for bikes coming into the UK not leaving.  Haven't managed to get hold of Yamaha yet but not holding out much hope as the bike was a dealler import from the US to start with.  Anyone got any idea what we should try next?!  Plus does anyone know of  good online breaker for headlights? (tried "casse moto phare" on google but not getting very far) Ta
  7. Phew. Thanks for putting my mind at rest.  Thought we were going to be living in a tent. We'd read something in a mag a while back & it was haunting us. We obviously (thankfully!) mis-read it!
  8. We are in the process of selling our house in the UK & aren't (allegedly) getting hit by CGT.  We have heard a rumour that if you transfer over £30k to France you get taxed 50%.  Anyone know if this is true?
  9. Hi, I need to import my V-Star to France from the UK.  There are plent of discussions on how to import UK cars but none on US motorcycles (imported by UK dealler) Can anyone help me?  What do I need to do differently? Also does anyone know of any online bike breakers, need a headlight for the V-star & hubbys Bandit. Thanks!!!
