  1. Thank you all for your replies.  I will endeavour to comply with each and every one!  Can't wait to take Cain in April.  We do have an old trotting track in front of our house across the lane where we used to take our other dogs, but a German Shepherd needs two walks a day, for at least 1hr each walk!  Thank you once again! Jayne x
  2. Hello everyone.  I'm new to this forum, so please be nice!  Basically, a 4yr old German Shepherd has adopted us and I am looking for a book (or Kindle thing, or anything basically) about walks in Normandy suited to dogs, especially for a big GS that resembles a horse wearing a fur coat!  I've looked in the usual places on line, but believe it or not I cannot find anything (everything is no longer available!).  English would be preferable (don't say it, I know I'm a wimp!), but I am more than willing to translate it from french but it will take a while!  We live in England at present, but our home is in Orne where we intend to retire in 5 years time.  We visit 3 times a year (damn the recession!).  Many thanks, and looking forward to hearing from you.  Jayne x

  5. Hi all, I've got a small bit of rendering to do on a exterior wall on my next visit to France. I know I need to use good clean sand (plasterers sand etc in the uk), what name or what equivelant would I require in france. Thanks Jon
  6. Just had our renewed after filling the previous ones. Cost was £25 for each passport. Jon
  7. Hi all, Does anyone know the french word for treadmill, My wife has bought one and would like to discuss this in her french lesson, but cannot find the french word.   Regards   jon
  8. Does this discount apply to all offers? I'm a frequent traveller, would I get 30% of this?   John
  9. Procedure for the modern systems are that you need only one toilet. The waste from this goes into a set of containers which are on a turntable and rotated around when one is full. This is then left to compost ready for the garden. These containers come in various sizes to suit most houses and amount of  inhabitants. jon
  10. If you research them you will find things have moved on from "the middle ages" in the world of composting toilets. As regards to what the benifits are, they are the use of no water to flush and free compost, that strikes me has good for my wallet and good for the enviroment.   Jon
  11. Hi, thanks for that dave, does seem strange that a composting loo would be illegal considering they are used all over the world and can cost as much as a small fosse to install. Do you know if a smaller fosse would then be accepted considering that there would be no toilet waste entering it and it would only be used for grey water?   jon
  12. You've got everything in order and your planning is correct. The simple answer to your question about your own vet is NO you do not need to see him before your leave. My dogs travel around 4-5 times per year and our vet tried this with us many moons ago,  we no longer use him!   Jon
  13. Hi,    can anybody tell me if they are using a composting toilet in their property instead of a fosse. Is this allowed in France? I'm sure region to region will have different requirments, but I'm looking for a starting point as to whether to even  persue this root. Also regarding grey water, what are the requirements about running this onto land, if a fosse is required for this then it negates the idea of a composting loo.   Regards    jon
