1. yes...I found  a surveyor in Charente....... Has to be done wrong.
2. Yes of course a good builder knows most of the relevant information. I am looking for a property expert..ie a surveyor... I am very sorry to say that I have not had good experiences with British building work and often ....not always...they leave the country  for reasons other than a change of air. I have recomendations for buiders and possibly I will employ a maitres d hoevres....wrong spelling? My move to France is not on a whim ...purchasing a holday home or a rental project...it is to ebjoy a life style which I have been examining for years.I need to have the stability of a good property with equaly good potential and then I should be able to create the picture which I am painting. Research....asking around  gets me there......gets us all there...thats the reason for this forum.
3. yes   thank you.I am aware of these surveyors...I thought that there may be more!
4.     I am looking for a surveyor for a property near Bergerac..Any ideas?
5. I need to find a surveyor....I am looking for someone who will survey a property near Bergerac.Any ideas?
6. I more than agree with what you say! I have run my own buisness for many, many years and have worked far too many hours. When I became seriously ill several years ago I got no financial help....of course....and my buisness suffered as I could not work for six months. Luckily stronge and recovered and so did the buisness and went from loosing to selling the buisness for a good price at the perfect moment. The goverment did extreemly well from the sale in Capitol gains and, I suppose from my contributions at all times. It is I suppose  a UK resposability.I will conmtinue to work I will continue to work in France.
7. Cathy and Will a nd everyone.... Put yourselves in the position that I have been in....looking at properties in France for many years...and, I have purchased a couple...in different regions. In both cases when I wanted to sell the properies the agents were unable to do so.I sold my own houses.. for .the one in Charente I placed an add in a magazine....when a prospective buyer called I described to her everything relating to the house:what was around, the setting the atmosphere.I think at that moment she was moore than interested and she, my first caller purchased the house. The second property was near to St Malo and  none of the local agents could capture the picture and valued it at a price which was half of what I achieved. The wind mill was facing the windy coast line and I managed, without a huge effort to secure an editorial [written by me] and a photo in the two most important property sections belonging to the most prolofic newspapers. I was receiving calls from many countries and the house was sold to a Londoner. One of my interests...and has to been for a number of years is French property...I find it most interesting and beautiful...and extreemly variable....Maison Bourgoise, Hotel particulars, Arcachon villas...chateaux from all the different periods...the red briques villas of the Somme....to name just a few.So there has been a quest to find a property in an area which is right. Not so easy when the estate agents  have tried so very hard not to furnish relevant info and the diirty words...more photos please. It is a costly mission to tramsport yourself into France for several days...hotels and such like on A WHIM..A house may be located near to Bayeaux but could be in the middle of now where 6 miles from the nearest shop and with a pig farm next door...not iideal for B and B. So the estate agents are too vague....What is certain...is that if they were prepared to be more helpfull and iformative they would sell more properties.One...or maybe more UK based Estate Agents have, in the past suggested that I was an agent merely because I requested extensive detail before I  was prepared to travel all the way to  a remote region....having seen one photo and a vague description. I have to admit that I am tempted to engage in the selling of houses....but my first thoughts are to be in France and to begin a new stage in my life. The puzzle pieces have been created and I await the results. a
8. From my knowledge of buying/selling in France  I can say that it sounds odd.Where there is an agent involved the deposit is usally sent to the immobilier....without that deposit ...well. I am buying in the Gironde....where are you.Coulld you let me know ...perhaps privately who your agent is?
9. What legal requirements are there to operate a Bed and Breakfast house? And what certificate do you need to serve evening meals?
10. Good morning...whereabouts in Bergerac are you moving to...as we may hear of someone...we are going to be in the area.
11. When you think about moving to France.....if you are not already there.....consider why you wish to move from UK. I, personally am happy to carry on in the same manner as I did in UK;paying my taxes and the tax payable for the staff whom I employed part time or full time in my catering establishement. I have lived in London and for most of the years have loved it....worked really hard, and without questioning my reason. For me going to France is completing the book. There is a story and it evolves but there is more. I am saying that I have outgrown the excitement of being in a massive traffic jams or being in a crowded train having no witness the  stressed faces of the computor population.I no longer deisire to compete with all those around me to become rich or famous. Later in life our dreams  can come true... and we slow down a little. But wherever we are...surely we have to play by the rules.
12. Somewhere not far from St Foy Le Grand/Castillon de Batailley/St Emillion area from some time in Oct for 4/8 weeks whilst we complete contracts....a one /2 bed house...good refs.Dry storage in out building would be helpful but not essentail.
13. We need to rent from some time in  Oct approx for maybe 6 weeks....maybe longer a 1/2 bedroom house near to Bergerac/ST Foy Le Grande/Castillon de Bataille...could be good if there is a dry and spacious barn to store our furnituire...but maybe not essentail.Any ideas....good refs etc.
14. Need to rent from approx mid/late Oct for 1/2  months a 1/2 bed house.......good references etc.In the area near to SDt Foy Le grand, Castillon de Bataille...St Emillion. We shall complete here before we complete in France.Large dry barn could be an asset.
15. Sounds good and someone who helps to make moving light hearted ...well thats wonderful...do you know who they were....I have the magazine here actually!Where did you move to/My load is bigger than yours I think....that could be a prob....did they have a small truck?
16.
Hi Jon, We used a Broker that advertised in this magazine. My wife had been in shipping for some years and telephoned around, but no spectacular deals, in fact, some very expensive quotes. The Broker did all the legwork and gave us a number of companies to choose from. We chose a company that were not local to us. They were from the Brighton area. (We lived in Southend). They collected our 20 cubic metre load (we already had furniture at our house here and got rid of as much as we could before we left!) and delivered it when they were in the area, about five weeks after we moved,  which suited us fine. They were fully insured, professional and fun, moving our girls around on their trolleys as they worked! The whole deal cost us less than £1650.00. We had packed everything though, so if you want more, you'll have to pay for it. I got a good selection of Boxes from the  Big Yellow Storage people. I had stored some things with them for a while so got them for half price. It was a package of various sizes of about 20 boxes including sealing tape.I also got some excellent removal boxes from Lidl. I had some bumf posted through the door at the right time. They were selling large removal boxes (folded) for 99p each! The Broker charged us about £35.00 plus VAT. We only had to pay him when he found someone for us. Hope this helps Paul
17. We will be travelling from London to Bergerac area...needing a truck rather than a van.In about 6/8 weeks time.We will also require storage in SW Fr for  4/8 weeks....We are looking for recomendations.
18. We will be moving the contents of our home...roughly two months from now to the Begerac SW area. Can anyone let me kn ow of the most reliable company for moving...obviously many of you have made that very move.
19. My partner and I love animal desperately and can not stand to see them in any kind of pain. we have to move to France in order to make a home for pets......the travelling is not ideal...especially for cats. I can understand those who do not enjoy the company of animals and find their lives forfilled without there presense and love.Pushka has been gone for more than 13 years, Bingy 5 years and Boodie 3 but there are tears shed in their memory....saying thank you for knowing them and  remembering how lovely they were.
20. does anyone know of a surveyor in the S.W area?
21. I have just been  sent the deatils about the lavender harvest in Basindtoke?Looks wonderful.Good to hear from some one like bluebell who has wise words and obviously kindness in he heart.
22. Val...I agree that once you sell in England it is not easy to go back and buy again. However everything rests on individual situations. Is it easy to go off and rent in France whilst your home in England lies dormant. Can you afford not to sell and move on to down size....attaching some form of part-time income whilst in France.Yes, I know fully that it is not easy to find work in France.....however what are the options. When choosing an area there are a million questions and a place for everyone and everyone in their place. Not easy but it has to be done.
