Rough night indeed ... Less than in 1999 , but a tree from my garden has fallen down on the roof of the house the neighbours are rehabilitating... Hope to see them today, hope they haven't gone off on holidays . . .
PS : I ve forgotten to say I am ill and a high temp, not what I need today ![6]

My German friend told me Mickael is indeed not the right pronunciation.
-
What it is certainly not is the shoomaker I ve heard some people say on UK tv ( a k like cake )

, I think it's very difficult to convey sounds in print, thus there's always a chance that Frenchie's rr sounds like the German ch to her,
Y E S [:D]

And here's a real German doing it!

(Sorry about the ads). In fact there are several different Germans on here and all pronounce the ch in a way far closer to ch as in the Scottish loch, than rr as in marrow. Sorry, Regine, but I don't hear the double r sound once.[:(]
No, not the double ENGLISH R as in narrow ! an R a bit like like Retard in French !

Oui, je l'ai mené en bateau, je l'ai fait marcher ...

Well, actually, no, not as an adult.
When I was a kid I loved bread, butter and chocolate..

A song linked to the thread about pronunciation....
SUITE SIXTINE ( I'm sure our sweet 17 will appreciate ...) [:D][:D][:D]

She is German, married to a French man . ( I guess that does not make her less German, does it ? ) [:D]
..
In the case of a prenom to speak to your Guillame and pronounce his name as anything other than Geeyomm (assuming he doesnt pronounce it differently) is disrespectfull however one must be prepared to make allowances for difficulty with some vowel sounds.
I don't consider it irrespectful, as I do understand it may be difficult to pronounce . We all make mistakes !!
It is better to say Gwillem rather than William ( though I love that name ) as it shows a will to try !!
-
Chancer, I asked a friend at work, ( she's a teacher of German ) about the pronunciation of SCHUMMI [:D] [:P] in German, and she said it was definitely Shoomarrer , hence my post.......

All those sadwiches sound very .. errr ... exotic to me ....
Give me the tuna / egg/ tomato / salad / and sauce César please !! [:D]

Reims, but the french calling it rance, never seems quite right, even though I know it is right.
Certainly not everywhere !! Those who may say something sounding a bit like Rance have " un accent pointu " ( Parisians mainly and many above the Loire river .. )
And I know french people with the surname Paris and they are called pa riss, and not pa ri, so what is that about then, I've never got that.
I assume that is "thanks to" Paris Hilton, very much shown on French Tv ...... [+o(] -
Yes of course we will all have difficulties regardless of our nationality especially when presented with something in the written form, I am not sure why Frenchie thought my posting was unfair.
Naaaa , don't take it personnally ! [:)]
I agree, it's sometimes quite a puzzle. The one that really winds us up is Michael Shoomarrer! When you ask why, no-one can explain it. FairyNuff PS Daniel Defoe's hero I think?
Shoomarrer is the way it is pronounced in German.

I love visiting my friend Norman in Liverpool.
Was there for the festive period two years ago, and for the Beatles music festival last year.
Always felt good there, and people are helpful , as idun suggested.
There's something special about that city, deffo.

The French pronounce it in the German way. CH is " rr" in German.

Oh come on, ...... this is not fair !! [:)]
The vast majority of British people I know can't pronounce my son's name GUILLAUME ...
He becomes " gwillem" or something like that...
And often ends up being called William ... !

Wonderful dog. Great news ! [:)]

I'm happy for you John,
