  1. Hi all i have fitted some decking at our french house in the Charente Maritime( wood purchased in france and class3). I would like to stain it like we have done in England but can't understand enough off the french words on the tin to make sure i get the right stuff, seems to be so many different ones. Can i use decking stain from the uk as this time of year there is buy one get one free or because of the termite situation in france am i to use the French stuff, if so any idea which one is the best to use.
  2. Hi all thanks for the replies i was thinking of getting a 3-3.5 mtr inflatable with may be a 5hp motor max only want to be moving at slow speed not speed boat. The other option would be a 14-15 ft day boat wood or fibre glass with a lot bigger engine because of the extra weight same again only cruising speed. The river in question is the Charente, there are already boats on there of all descriptions with petrol outboards.
  3. Hi all thinking of getting a boat for the river exploring and fishing, cant make my mind up wether to get a big inflatable or a day boat. what size boat and engine can i go upto before i need a liscense or permits. What would the price be for a year and does it run for 12 months from purchase or is it jan till december like fishing liscense. thanks in advance
  4. Hi all i'm in the Charente Maritime region between the above dates and would like to know which brocantes and vide grenir are the best to visit within this time. Looking for furniture items and bits and bobs. thanks
  5. Hi, I am looking for a beach in the charete maritime where you are allowed to take dogs in the summer time. In our trips to various areas so far we have only come accross winter access on the beach for dogs. We are pretty central so any sugestions would be gratefully received.
  6. Thanks La Vette but it is kind of stating the obvious! can you give me anywhere to try to start with.
  7. hi all, Can anybody help, i am looking for storage jars for the kitchen like the ones you find all over the uk with labels on for tea and coffee and so on but would like the labels to be in french. Other alternative would be labels that you can buy to stick on. Does anybody know where i can source from either in the uk or France. Thanks
  8. Thanks for the info sheldon, when in france the only thing under pressure is the water lol
  9. Hi all Im in the charente Maritime near saint savinien when at the house and would like to know any places to look for the above mentioned bed. would like one in good condition not one for restoration. Anybody know of any good brocantes that sell them on a regular basis. Thanks
  10. hi does this mean that if you have a uk kitchen tap you are ok providing you use a french flexible tap connector
  11. Kathy, I meant 120mm deep not above the ground, lol , but your right might have been miss-understood by others. Thanks for the advice
  12. sorry Kathy your right, should have read 1200mm. 120mm wouldn't need to worry at that depth
  13. hi all thanks for the replys the pool would be on the ground not in it at all so would be 120mm approx above the ground. will have to review the access situation
  14. High, Question is when does a pool installation change from on the ground tempory installation to a permanent installed pool neading to comply with the regulations?. The reason i ask is i would like to buy one of the above ground alluminium type pools about 4m diameter then install some kind of raised deck around one part to form a platform. Is this acceptable or do i then need to complyh with the regulations. Thanks
  15. Clair, yes we do have something presume some sort of contactor that receives a signal at set times but i think it still only feeds the water tank because you cant  heat the water at any other time via an over ride switch. is there diferent types which allow you to use all electricity at low rate when in heures creuses time.
  16. Thanks for the info by the way we have the 6 kw heures creuses supply but think it is only for the water heater is this correct
  17. Panda,   Your now making me jealous, your own lake what ive always wanted. The river is full of carp and they go like mad when you hook one even the small ones but it is nice to get one of the bigger ones. That was my first trip on the river although i do a lot of carp fishing in the uk. To get carp of that size on my first trip says to me there is a lot bigger and i am going to enjoy trying to catch them. If your husband needs any tips on kit or tactics for the river let me know.I'm sure there is plenty of carp in your area the charente is very mild so they grow large. would post a picture on here if i knew how lol. sniffy
  18. Hi Panda, On the Charente  just outside saint savinien. Do you fish yourself?
  19. Hi all quick update on how the fishing is going, just spent two fantastic weeks at the house and managed to fit some fishing time in as well. Caught plenty of carp biggest mirror weighed 35 lbs biggest common weighed 26 lbs. Caught plenty of small fish on maize but all the big ones were caught on boilies.
  20. In the process of renewing the kitchen and doing the electrics at the same time question is how should my oven be fed both with circuit size and outlet type. It is an oven only single and at present time currently runs off of the socket circuit which is only 16 amp. I know this not to be correct but we only have a 6 kw supply seems a bit daft feeding it with 6mm and putting it on a 32 amp supply that will give no discrimination between cooker and main switch. Can it be on smaller cable as long as the fuse backing up is protecting it properly or are the rules the rules
  21. Going to take a belfast sink to France with me for my forthcomming kitchen project question is will i encounter a problem with different waste pipe sizes or the hot and cold feeds to the sink. is the answer to buy the taps and waste from france or is the plumbing the same size

  23. Thanks again for the info a bit of momentum gaining on this one good points about lead size will consider that one, suppose depends on how much water is pushing through the river. No problem with rods i have 3lb tect curve infinitys will handle 5oz of lead not sure what that is in gramms. Hoping to find 15kg-20kg carp. Good point about the type of boilies will take that into account probably start with maize good results on the seine prebaiting with that, and cheap!. I'm a fair way from limoges but will check the book you mention.
