1. [:D]Wow! Two replies already! I'm so impressed. I'm going to check out both links now. If you see a cute Samsung monitor flying past your windows in a few hours, you'll know who it belongs to and that I couldn't work it out[:D]. Very very grateful for the links. Thanks
 2. Hi everyone, I have a PC monitor problem that is driving me a little loopy. It’s a Samsung flat screen  Monitor that I’m trying to hook up to my laptop. Have followed all the installation instructions.  When loading XP, everything is visible on both monitors (laptop and new external), however, once windows XP loads, the external monitor stops displaying what is on the hard drive.  The laptop’s background image displays on the external monitor too but nothing else. It appears to be reacting as an extension of the laptop monitor so when the cursor leaves the laptop monitor, it appears on the Samsung one. Have tried everything to make the Samsung external into the primary monitor from settings but nothing seems to work. The monitor came with a normal analogue cable as well as a DVI one. My laptap doesn’t have the digital DVI port so I’m using the analogue cable. The relevant drivers are installed. Au secours!
 3.

That'll do for me....Warlock ready and willing, so get down and get wivvit [:)] Hermmmm, what do I do exactly [8-)]
Miki, that's what happens when you don't pay attention at Warlock School. You have to whoosh things here, whoosh things here and whoosh things everywhere.  How many classes did you attend?  I'll squeal on you to Prof Smith if you don't whoosh something nice in my direction[6]
 4.
Thanks, Dotty and Pip, I'll go get my tall hat. Do wizards have familiars, and will a tabby, or white, or black and white cat do?
Valleyboy, Echo is so much more romantic for the Valleys of Central France. I'm hurt! Don't understand why you prefer Dotty's wizard personally. I'm off to sulk now[:D].
 5. Tech-Teacher, hope you will find what you are looking for when you move to Toulouse. Just a small thing to point out. You talk about some people here being negative without obviously knowing their personal circumstances. However, on reading your post, what I understand is that you were in CA and were not happy and then onto Philly but not happy there either, so it's now the turn of Toulouse..... I'm clearly missing something here becasue I feel positively positive compared to all that.[8-)]. Hope Toulouse brings it all together for you. It's a nice enough place with it's good and bad points (normal city) and if you and your husband can find employement or have sufficient income if you fail to, then there is no reason why you shouldn't be happy there, I suppose.
 6.

This is untrue. I’m in my prime and instead of  taking up an invitation to be in some smoke-filled nightclub with fabulous pissed southern French blokes, I’m on a forum with a bunch of weirdoes …  Night, Night fellow freaks!   Opas - 45
Spot on !  Which month?
Ain't I a clever lass?[:D]  Ooops, Sorry Tresco, forgot again[:$] Opas, I need a little time to hone in my witchery skillery to work this out. (By the way, the asterisks in my post should have read  'dissed' with the first d turned upside down. LF obviously doesn't like the idea of dissed blokes on their forum[;-)])
 7. Clair, I saw at least 5 titles of these types of books on the UK in a large bookshop in Montpellier a few months ago. Couldn't bear the thought of reading them either ,as I couldn't the thought of reading the Peter Mayle one when it came out. Am I the only person who never read that book? Mind you, saw the film loosely based on it a few weeks back and that wasn't a very clever thing to do.[:(] (Ted Stanger is in a league of his own and I have read all but one of his books on France).
 8. Song of Solomon - Toni Morrison Histories - Heroditus Must get around to re-reading both of these gems again soon.
 9.
East, west, north, south, warlocks, witches, witchettes, et al., what can a 65 yr old in the centre of France be? (male, by the way, to reduce the options)
ECHO! [6][6] The male version of course.
 10. This is untrue. I’m in my prime and instead of  taking up an invitation to be in some smoke-filled nightclub with fabulous pissed southern French blokes, I’m on a forum with a bunch of weirdoes …  Night, Night fellow freaks!   Opas - 45
 11.
Would me old lionels, cubans & tank top be able to be whooshed up a bit ? If so, you got yerselves a real groovy warlock on the Forum [:)]
Only if accompanied by the platforms, sideburns, flares and curly afro.[:-))] Can't get groovier than that!
 12.
Cor lovely...never been a warlock of the Nord before. Just the job before me hols, won't bovver wiv me fong nah, off to look for gear to be a warlock. Any idea where I can purchase it, apart from Man at Warlock ? That'll make a few jealous   Miki the warlock..................Dick can be my aide du Normandie et Bretagne et Real Ale [:)]
....don’t care how much you resemble the gorgeous Scottish bloke
Billy Bremner, Joe Jordan or Jimmy Kranky ? Miki 35........................................... (dept)
No need to buy the gear, just whoosh it up. As for Dick, I'm still brewing a special potion to magic his kitchen into my appart with the bijou tiles. That's his punishment. Wen - 42
 13.
Kenneth Williams, Carry on Cleo.
Or was it Carry on up the Khyber... Really all too vague now. Tresco, a little spoilt for choice here, that's true[:)]
 14.
Kenneth Williams, Carry on Cleo.
Oops, thought it was carry on Columbus. By the way Miki, I’ve decided that if we are to be the witches of the Midi, you have to be the warlock of the Nord, don’t care how much you resemble the gorgeous Scottish bloke.  Now to designate the dragon of the West, and the Cyclop of the East.   Val-2  - 56
 15. Infamy, infamy. They've all got it in for me. Chris Head - 39
 16.   Lori  - 43 Will  - 52 Beryl – 55 Chief – 45 Miki – 59 Quillan – 57 Ron Avery – 62 NickTrollope - 45 RG – 38  but as she is supposed to be me, a fabulous 21. Tay – it’s past your bedtime, go to bed!  And of course BB       16 Dick     25 Twinkle, a clever lass but a wee generous.[:D] JK, watch your back![6][:D]
 17.
The other Witch of the Midi, Languedoc Gal I would imagine to look like a big rather bossy character with stern eyes and a cheeky grin and I would imagine her to be around the 55 mark.  [8-)]
Hee heee heee heee heee heeee heee It's been such a long and exhausting day but this has completely rejuvenated me.[:-))][:-))][:-))] Thinks a million JK! I'll come back once I've finished sewing up me old sides[:-))]
 18. Newtothis, of course we don't work. This is France, if we wanted to work, we would go to the UK. You really are new to this. Don't worry, I'm a Newishbe too but have a gigantic gob[:-))]. After an exhausting day[;-)], I did manage to get a film in at the local cinema. A sweet Belgian film. Hectic day!  Seriously though, quite a few self-employed people from the UK work from home via their computers and so, if there aren't any meetings/trips, it's easy to keep in touch with the forum without spending much time on it. You'll soon learn the tricks. Today was my day off so enjoyed following the forum as it was one of those 'unusual' grey days here.
 19. Thanks RH. I did speak about special terms with one of the cashiers a while back and she was very vague but I now have the details of the branch and regional managers so I'll give that a go.  I had to jump through hoops to get a PO Box number. Even though it was my right, they reserve them for large companies in my local offices and told me so. My artisan was shocked to find out that I got a PO box number as he has never managed to get one. The problem is that the rules are one thing, but they will often just do what pleases them. If I was in another town, it could be totally different. I am going to pursue this. Thanks again.
 20.

I own up, I'm a very intelligent 9 year old.
You are a prodigy LG, but it's not the done thing to boast. Someone should be watching out for your social development too.[:-))]
Sorry about the boasting Tresco.  I always forget. JK, is it ok if i'm 9 and three quarters? Pink specs, I'd avoid our adorable vignerons down here. However, if you do drink some alcohol, you'll probably be spared the asylum. I'm always on the look-out for the day 'they' come for me. Have managed to avoid them thus far but don't know for how much longer. If  I disappear from the forum, you'll know where I am, being indoctrinated in the art of ''wine adoration'' by some butch vignerons[:'(]
 21.
Witches of Midi....stop making me smirk.....I hate you all, but I suppose I would stand you a drink if you ever broke down in the South Vendée [:P]
Jon, if there's less than 300 days of sun a year in your dept, I won't be South Vendeeing it any day soon. I'm a huge frileuse[:D]. Pink spec's: allergic to alcohol? I would love to be a fly on the wall watching you try to explain that concept to one our dear Languedoc vignerons. You'll be sent straight to the nearest mental hospital[:D]. Trust me, I know! Twinkle, I own up, I'm a very intelligent 9 year old.
 22.

Also, whatever happens to the British sense of humour when these people move to France? Knocking one's country is a British hobby. How come so many who move to France become so sensitive when they ''perceive'' their new country to be knocked. Do they leave their sense of humour along with their mortgages in the UK?[:D]
By "these people" you mean????  These people[:D] Tell you what - let's try a simple test. How would people reading this thread (if they can be bothered) respond to the following statement posted by a new bug*: "The health service in France is excellent. The provision of care and the speed of treatment is unsurpassed and exceeds in all respects the service provided in the United Kingdom by the NHS."  Answer: These people masquerading as a bug. * I meant hypothetical. If anyone thinks I am going to spent my evening digging over 8600 posts searching for an actual quote they are mistaken. Oh go on... we dare you[:D]
23.

It is a frequent truth that those describing themselves as "realists" are as far removed from the world as those that they decry. .
Do really think, Jon, that my being a French national born in France, of French parents, and having been through the French educational system and having worked in France, has no bearing on my perception of....France?
I'm sure it has a great deal of bearing on your view of this fine nation, just as my being born English in England has a bearing on my thoughts and opinions on that (also fine) nation. My point was that relentless negativity is just as damaging as the "theme park" view. Neither give a balanced view and both are completely useless to anyone evaluating the advisability of a move here. The theme park view (LG - I like the turn of phrase) is risible and I have no truck with it, but equally the way that positive comments posted on this board are all so often jumped on from a great height is deeply, deeply irritating.
Theme park credit goes to 5-E, me thinks. 'Positive comments' are one thing but as you know, these are usually issued as generalities for the entire country by so many and as the rest of us do not recognise the conditions described for example - France is cheap - it's difficult not to challenge them. I repeat, I don't think we are negative. Also, whatever happens to the British sense of humour when these people move to France? Knocking one's country is a British hobby. How come so many who move to France become so sensitive when they ''perceive'' their new country to be knocked. Do they leave their sense of humour along with their mortgages in the UK?[:D]
 24.

I just hate the idea of people moving here, hearing all that 'theme park' nonsense about France all the time because it's false.  We all have our positions and are entitled to them as much as the 'everything is perfect' mob.
A serious question, well two actually.. Where does the 'theme park' reference you refer to actually come from ? Who has actually said that 'everything is perfect' ? I can find no statement to that effect on this thread. Thank you.
Bugbear, my post was clearly not referring just to this thread as there are enough of us on here with different views. Read my post, perhaps. Re theme park, please use a little imagination.  You're welcome!
 25.
LG, since I know you are not RG (or do I???)mmmm... I was going to say, where are you? Let's all go and have meatballs in IKEA, this hotbed of Languedoc subversiveness.
To my brocante first! Meatballs later... Did you get my email today, 5-E?
