  1. Just wanted to say good luck with finding good homes. If it helps we just had the same situation (not being abandoned by the Mother but unfortunately so called human beings). We did manage to find wonderful homes for all of them - did the usual which I am sure you have done - adverts in the supermarkets, vets, Mairies office and just about any where we could think of (with pictures seems hard to resist). We wasn't inundated with calls but certainly enough to find them the homes. I think your offer to pay for neutering should certainly help.
  2. Being new to the Forum I read with interest the post regarding the 'long term let' and Pun's comments. I didn't comment then though I was amazed that somebody who as yet 'has no actual experience of gite rental' and as far as I can see has only the experience of reading about other people's experiences could be so damning of somone just trying to earn an honest living. Perhaps I am wrong in assuming that this is what 'Gite rental' is all about and whether it is a short term or long term let then it really is of no difference. Yes before you come back with the differences in the laws regarding being a 'Landlord' lets just keep it in perspective. The whole point of these posts are purely to make us all aware that there are some really dodgy characters out there. People who on the surface behave like you or I but when it comes down to it they are capable of all sorts of wrong doings. Pun I hope that when you do start letting out property all of your dotting the 'T's' and crossing the 'I's' that you take great pains to point out you have done will be beneficial in spotting any unscrupulous character ! Truth is I think you will be in exactly the same position as all of us out there and just relying on the goodness of human nature and crossing your fingers.......unless of course you are mystic meg in which case any idea on the lottery numbers ?
  3. Has the world gone mad ! things like this never cease to amaze me. From what you say there is no way to avoid this - but what if you had a contract with someone to live there throughout Winter - can you not produce this to the Prefecture and ask how he suggests you 'kick these people on the street'. Surely the persons with the contract have more rights than the squatters in situ ? Alternatively is there not any urgent work that needs attending to at the property (particularly for safety reasons) - sounds like a complete re-wiring might be cheaper than allowing them to stay in situ ? I am sure you could get some willing local Electrician to produce some reason why it would not be safe for them to be there. Just a thought and probably not a good one but in this situation I think I would try anything. Guess this is the payback we might all receive for believing there are decent honest people out there ! Sad world hey
  4. [:D] Fantastic news, home found and a very nice one too. They already have 2 other kittens 3&4 months and quite obviously adore animals so a good job done. I am not ashamed to admit to being a little emotional when he left even though I had convinced myself I wasn't becoming attached........... well who can resist...... but ultimately I am very happy. There are too many unwanted animals in this world and all because a few intelligent(?) human beings cannot be bothered to do what is right. The sad truth is that the Mother of these kittens is probably already pregnant again ![:@]
  5. First time posting but having read the posts in this section it heartens me to know there are lots of lovely people out there who do care about animals. We have taken in 4 kittens about 9 weeks old (no need to ask how I think we all have the t-shirt) - however we have been extremely lucky to have found homes for 3 already. The one little chap left is mainly white with little black splodges and blue eyes. He has been given flea treatment and wormed, he has a fantastic character and loves to play football - we have nicknamed him 'Becks' and before I get lots of responses no we are not Man Utd supporters. Anyone in the Indre dept 36 near La Chatre who would be able to offer a home to him please contact me - we are unable to keep him unfortunately as we are returning to the UK in December.
