1. What is your regular dose of shock? 90 grams if hyperu choc What size is the pool? 10m cubed above ground pool What type of filter? sand filter filled with zeolite Use week long chlorine tabs I have a tru test meter (bought new strips for it on Monday) and also have some manual bayroll strips. both giving a reading of 0.  Put in another 600 grams of shock last night and had a reading for chlorine just after but 0 again this morning (left the pool filtering all night)
2. Yesterday I had 1.5ppm of free chlorine in my pool.  After cleaning I checked again today and have 0.  I have shocked the pool with 10 the regular dose of chlorine shock, but still have a reading of 0 from my Tru Test meter and also some bayroll strips I have.  Does chlorine go out of date?  The shock is 2 years old.  Any advice welcomed.
3. Maybe try hyperu, since they take a cheque for a deposit and no credit card is needed.  Much less choice but the prices are competitive.
4. Just been to exchange my licence and been told I need a medical.  According to the form it is if I want a E(B) Licence.  Well since I do not tow a caravan do I need this additional piece or would a standard B licence cover most things such as transit vans, cars etc. (from website anything less than 3.5T).  Also, my UK licence covers me to drive a minibus up to 16 people but seemingly not on a French licence (max 9 people including driver). Also, if I were to go for the permis b and in the future went back to a UK licence would the entitlements reappear on my licence?
5. I will do so.  Is there a new regulation?  It seemed strange to be given a new washer.
6. Just got a refill today from my local HyperU and the man at the garage gave me a small plastic black washer.  Not sure what it is for, but is there a new regulation coming in June?  If no, any ideas why he should give me a washer?
7. That's odd, my quote was for tous risques.  Also found another firm similar called ineas (a dutch firm who does car insurance in France, Germany and Netherlands).
8. Has anybody used these to insure their car?  They seem to be part of Macif, but the quote I received for my car is half of what I pay now.  It is internet only, so not sure what to think?
9. I would check with your local CPAM that you are still covered.  Discovered yesterday, that our cover is on hold, until they get all the pages of my tax form (they photocopied it again yesterday).
10. Well I received a letter from CPAM today requesting a readable copy of all the pages of my 2007 Avis d'impot.  In the letter was an actual readable copy of all pages along with the rest of the documents I submitted, all date stamped 11th September.  I have a printed attestation from the CPAM office and have received payments, so my guess is that they have not stopped my cover.  Based on this, I would expect a further delay in my URSSAF bill, since they cannot process that until they have the additional documentation.  Would this be a fair assesment?
11. Thanks for your help, I will speak with the doctor tomorrow.  He has had all other jabs required and the school has accepted his immunization record as complete, he just never had the MMR due to the bad publicity at the time.
12. What is French for measles?  Also does anybody know what MMR translates too.  My son did not have the vaccine but based on this information I would like to speak to my Doctor about it.
13. Thank you both for the advice.  I have raised both the PH and TA as described and the pool is now closed! Finishing levels were PH 7.6 TA 170, so a little different from what Pool Guy suggested, but only read this now.  Also I used Bayrol PH+ and follow the instructions and added 1kg of PH+ to increase the PH and TA in a 10m cubed pool.
14. Just read this and I have not received anything from URSSAF.  Actually after going into the CPAM office in September, have heard nothing from them either.  Still covered as have received reimbursements from them and printed out an attestation when I was in the CPAM office.  Is the first payment not usually due on Dec 31st?
15. Just checked the readings of my pool before closing and I have a ph of 6.6 and TA of 49.  Does this need increasing before closing?  It is a above ground pool with a liner.
16. Thanks for your replies. Neither SpyBot or AdAware picked up anything.  Just doing a scan with Panda online scan and it says there is one virus so far, so will see what that is when the scan finishes.
17. Can anybody share some advice. Between 1351 and 1356 today, my gmail account sent out an electronic shop spam mail to all my contacts (the messages were in my sent file), changed my signature to the spam mail and set my out of office reply to the spam mail. I have followed the instructions on gmail (changed my password and security question) but I am now paranoid. Is it likely it was hacked or could a bot or some type of virus have done this? I use firefox with the gmail manager extension, could that have been compromised? I should point out, about 3/4 days ago, I did click on a spam email which had the exact same message about an electronics retailer (based in Asia) but did not open any attachments or click any links. I am currently running Spybot and will run AdAware. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.
18.
Sharkster I'll try anything once! I've just switched to Open DNS and the results have been surprising; it's loads faster finding websites and opening them! I'll monitor it for a while and I can always change back if it turns out to be a problem, but hey, on current results, it's GREAT!! Sid
I changed over on Thursday out of utter frustration.  Up until the change, I had to refresh between 3-5 times to get some websites up (including Orange.co.uk).  It took less than 5 minutes to change the DNS and the results were instant.  They do claim to be faster, but not sure I have noticed an increase in speed, but no more surfing problems!
19. Is your ISP Orange?  If so, I had the same problems.  I recently changed my DNS provide to OpenDNS (it is a free service).  It solved the problem immediately.  Pretty simple to do too. Here is the link http://www.opendns.com/ I think the way the make money is the fact they drive you to their search engine rather than Google (if you type a search into the address bar of your browser that is).
20. Well my fan belt got a clean bill of health from the garage, but he wants me to come back next week, so he can try and find out what caused the problem.  Since yesterday morning there has been  no more noises.  It is a scary noise for the uninitiated though:)
21. Thanks for all your replies.  Since this morning there has been no more screeching.  I will see what the garage has to say tomorrow morning, they seem like a good bunch and will not do work that does not need doing.
22. Quote - Screeching noise could be water pump or alternator bearings rather than a loose drive belt. The water pump was replaced in the summer of last year.  The alternator was replaced both in the summer of last year and then again under warranty about 4-5 months later (both these repairs carried out be the Renault main dealer, along with the replacement of the timing belt).  I had somewhat of an expensive meltdown in my engine, which involved my alternator burning out and the water pump ceasing.
23. thanks Anton, I would only be using the car locally until tomorrow, but I head you warnings.  Not sure if it makes a difference, but when the noise came, I switched off the engine and then switched it back on and revved the engine whilst in neutral and the noise came back.  Would this rule out the power steering belt?
24. Doh!  It is a Renault Clio 1.5 DCI Privilege, 2002 model. Also, what is French for 'fan belt'?
