  1. who do i ask if a 1996 yamaha 125 cygnus (a  4 stroke scooter )  was ever imported into france, i have one & want to register it here  ?.cheers mike.
  2. hi dave, are they brand new t&g floor boards i can see above ?  just wondering.
  3. we planted the seeds in a greenhouse  last nov & have now got 50 young trees on their 1st set of propper leaves i discovered yesterday.
  4. Hi, I'm Lynn, (Mike's wife), I rang the european RAC who gave me a French number to ring, on ringing this number from a pay phone at the Aire, they informed me that because the autoroutes are private it would have to be the garage assigned to that stretch of the road who would come to our aid. They guy spoke very little English but knew our exact position obviously picked up from the telephone number and we were sorted in no time at all. I assume the gendarmes become involved if you ring from an SOS box, as is the case in England.
  5. i think if plants are to be less than 2m tall then you can plant 0.5m from fence, if higher, then you must plant them 2m away. if next to a road or pylons then its different again, havn't fully understood that bit yet!
  6. is there a cap on the chimney?  water may be getting down !
  7. hi mel, just the rac. no gendarmes involved.
  8. we broke down last year near le mans on the a28 in our 14 yr old citroen ax, managed to limp into an aire, phoned international rac who got us to a garage within an hour.     2 hours after that we were on our way again with a new alternator but minus  $165.  good old rac!
  9. sounds great! another thing thats cheaper than britain, & probably not as strict.
  10. i;d bring your own plaster from england, my mate who's a plasterer cursed the french stuff when he came to mine to do some plastering. what he did say was lafarge make british plaster & they are a french company!
  11. thanks for that info,  old vw lt 35's also come in a range of weights. forgot to mention it doesn't have a carte grise as it is on english plates, does this matter?
  12. is a special ct station required as in england for 3 1/2 tonne vans ?
  13. ive removed it at a friends house in france, cut it into strips with a stanley knife & pull it off. try 300mm strips 1st, if you' re struggling go smaller.
  14. we do have a photo but cant seam to post it up here, but the 3rd picture on cat.s post is identical.    the tree had green fruits on in august . when i looked last month they were a russet colour & some had fallen off
  15.  This large tree is on the edge of our land in a forest, the leaves are almost identical to that of a Mountain Ash, the fruit is small (about the size of a conker) and tastes sweet and the flesh is like a pear. Does anyone know what it is ????????
  16. i would say that its roughly 3/4 of the price of britain, ie 1euro per cu mtr as opposed to a £1 in britain our 30 cu mtr pool will roughly cost 30 euros to fill.
  17. i'd turn your central heating off when you're not there'. it'll  still use alot of oil on a low setting as i found out one  winter. but make sure you put some proper anti freeze into the system before you do.
  18. may i explain that i erected the fence about 100mm on my side of the red markers put in by a geometre when i bought the land, which is in fact a large field, ive already planted up things 1.5 m inside of this so i hope i'm ok as the other boundary has his forrest coming right up to the fence i'm about to erect along the line of my red markers.i'd also like to plant this up in case they ever chop the forrest down.
  19. does anyone know the legal distance from a boundary that you can plant hedges/trees, i've heard mentioned 1.5m, but in a small garden thats a big bit of land.
  20. the reason i asked the question was because last year i asked the same question & was told she couldn't
  21. can you simply ride a 125 on a british car licence, providing you've had licence for more than 2 years? we only live in france part time& dont intend to get a french licence. i possess a full bike licence but my oh doesn't & we've got the chance of a cheap scooter , can she ride it?
  22. it was a bit of scratched paint ! its ridiculous, all this agro for a bit of scratched paint, it wouldnt be so bad but it had only just been mot'd.
  23. ps; its also an advantage to screw a small block of wood (slightly smaller than the gap )onto each montant about 1200mm up, to stop it being pushed back if any  thing/ body crashes against the wall
  24.  screw the top rail to the ceiling where you want it to go trapping the visqueen above it & let it hang down to the ground( you dont need much gap)then lay the bottom rail loose, slide in your uprights(montants) at 600mm centers, get it all square, (mark it so if it moves you dont cock up) then screw the bottom & the two sides up.next  crimp or screw the "montants" to the rails , then push in the special semi rigid insulation( i used 45mm)its like rockwool with cardboard each side roughly 600x1350mm, finally screw your boards on(special screws& gun) Ps you can use a cordless  at a push.     try & borrow a drywall gun though, you'll need some metal cutting sheers as well.
  25. the best advantage of metal studding is insulation & being able to erect a visqueen condensation barrier, ive done at least one outside wall of all my downstairs rooms, especially if theres no architectural features, even my wooden coving was carefully taken down & put back after.
