1. Roaring with laughter Tetchy? I1 The points you quoted were of course accurate however your speculation and sumising in between summed up with several I guess shows that its never wise to extrapolate UK laws and practice with any other country and specifically France. I'm surprised at your sensitivity on the issue surely confidence comes from knowing you are right.
2.
I think the frequency of rabies vaccination boosters is determined by the licensing requirements for a rabies vaccine rather than the duration of immunity provided by a particular brand. Were the rul...
Speculating again I1  theres a lot of guessing going on there
3. complete dry products are easily available like the UK you pay your money you take yout choice from cheap basic produts through to premium quality completes as with all dog foods read the labels check the ingredients and feed the best you can, dogs say is always the final deciding factor
4. New registrations are pretty quick, alterations change of ownership is another story all together :-(
5. since the introduction of the fifteen digit ISO chip they do come with a country code not always accurate as chips will travel before they are implanted it also doesn't take into account other chips who don't have the same format I can think of at least four. apparently there are 14 registered databases with some accpeting individual customised numbers allowing for some dogs to have duplicate numbers .......;gets more complicated all the time. Of course this issue has applied to tattoos for many years. I have always found any chip manufacturer very helful when needing to trace a chip with an unkown database they usually have access to the relevant information and a dog that was chipped could be traced providing the database was kept up to date and that is the biggest problem
6. Had six dogs and cats arrive in the UK yesterday morning all on French  pets passports issued on Thursday last week my vet informs me new EU passports available any day now can't wait!!! My dogs will be  first in line
7. Confusion arises because irrespective of manufacturers declarations rabies for dogs resident in france is legally only valid for a twelve month period definition of resident is here for longer than 3 months . Defra allows under the pets passports scheme rabies valid for duration according to manufacturers data sheet which can be up to three years. interesting to note  last case of rabies reported in the morbihan this year was for a french dog whose rabies expired whilst on holiday in morroco imported a dog which was then proven to be infected with rabies following loss of protection  due to expired vaccine:-(

Pet Passports

And now ( maybe)  you see my point just because information has been widely circulated doesn't mean its correct this information has been widely circulated by amongst others QUAFF only trouble is its not always accurate.  Last two dogs that I transported to the UK arrived yesterday am paperwork including old style pets passports issued on Thursday. Both dogs entered the UK on French pets passports. I have another seven due to leave on in the next few days .it remains to be seen what paperwork they travel on the good news my vets have received and ordered the new style EU pets passport applications but as yet they are still on order I have ben told they can be expected to arrive by the 15th of this month. Now that remains to be seen..............
10. at the risk of further accusation but to avoid speculative replies the reason for the derrogation for french dogs with tattoos was due to France having already had in existance at the time of the introduction of the pets passport a requirement for all dogs and cats to be tattoed. There was no legislation in place to allow for a microchip infact  for a vet to acquire a microchip they needed to literally go abroad to source a supply or apply for one and each pet was then a special case and a single chip was duly issued as a special case for this reason the UK granted a derrogation allowing tattoed and registered dogs and cats to start a pets passport under a tattoo giving vets the time to acquire a chip. since then the law in france has been changed specifically to allow either chipping or tattoo and this has been further extended under EU legislation for france to do away with tattoing in eight years. Its all part of the same harmonisation legislation that now restricts the numbers for the puproses of a non commercial entry to the UK to five per person previously there has been no limit.   Hope that wasn't too painful
11. you can use the old french paperwork until the new EU cert comes in. Just ask your vet to issue a old style cert. if your vet says no get them to ring and clarify the situation as it is legal until the new ones are printed

Dog experts?

I would just add that one reason for considering two meals a day would be that Setters in particular are very prone to bloat. ( deep chested breeds have a tendancy to bloat moe easily) splitting meals into two pportions reduces the amount of food in their stomach at anyne time and the risk of bloat and or twisting can be lessened as well as often importving digestion.  would have to go with looking at restricting her overnight until good toilet habits have been learnt and looking at altering feeding times to try to reduce the risk of her going through the nigh t needing to go

Pet Passports

Currently due to lack of available new EU passoprots to french vets the UK will accept old french paperwork and certainly my vet will happily issue old style paperwork until new Blue EU ones are available. Wisper is it could be as long as Dec before new passports are available in France. however most of the rest of the EU has managed to get its act together.
15. Please note sale of  kittens requires that the identification of the mother is also listed in the advert . I take it the mother is identified? its a legal requirement also that the kittens are identified before being sold.
16.
Do not necessarily mean that English kennels are that important. Just thought that if we opened some it might be helpful to any other English in that region who might want to leave their animals with...
excellent Morgane will be emailing shortly for directions only speaks frnehc and englsih and of course dog but se could take lessons in german if someone was available   can't get the hang of this darn quote thing!
17. 2heads you're still thinking like a person dogs all speak dog and most speak at least one other language. fortunately dog is pretty much universally the same although i will grant you there are some differences in signing due in part to anatomical differences   mutley
18. why are english speaking kennels important?
19. a rabies vacciantion may be given to a pup from the age of three months.minimum age therefore of qualification for a pets passport is from ten months.

Pet passport

you don't need tick and tapeworm to enter france however it is advisable to ensure your dog is protected with a tick preventative when arriving in france as tisk fever is a serious issue new EU passport doesn't come on line in most of the EU until the 1st of oct o french vets aren't implementing the system yet and can't get a blue passport yet they aren't available.
21. All dogs moving across EU borders will require an EU passport this is not a PETS passport no requirement for blood test unless returnng to the UK but you still need rabies etc. there is a sublte but significat difference
22. Sorry dog as from 1st of october the rules change and all you mutts will need a rabies  not to mention a microchip even if you have no plans to return to the UK in the near future mutley
23. Brumble this is very important it is not six months after injection but six months after the blood test if you have,'t had the blood test your six months hasn't started! go back and check with your vet. the reason for the difference in protocols for the rabies is some vets are more prudent in ensuring first time rabies vacciantions produce sufficient rabies antibodies some dogs fail their blood test after one vaccination its more likely to passs first time if two vaccines are given.
24. err not quite! due to a recent case of rabies in france its likely that existing legislation in spain has been more rigorously enforced. This does require some breeds and large dogs to be muzzled. However you don't need a blood test, new regs from oct require all dogs to have an EU passport issued through your vet minimum requirements are microchip or tattoo valid rabies all entered in the passport the requirement for a blood test is for entry to the UK.
