17,
If you are too busy to bake, instead of walnut cake, and if it is available in your area, Kouign Amann from Brittany is quite nice.

idun,
Apparently, if you put some cooking oil on your spoon, the golden syrup/honey/etc slides off easily. I say apparently because I've never tried it.

A lot of people in the US, including my mother, cooked with Karo syrup. Puh-leeze, no lectures about the horrors of corn syrup!

17,
They shoot pumpkins, don't they?

er, Frederick,
Didn't Forsyth send somebody to France to assasinate DeGaulle?

Superman,
I wouldn't touch either the Mail or the Express with a bargepole. We got the Independent from the day it came out until Chris Blackhurst ruined it. We now get the i because it has Indy articles and only costs 20p, or £45 a year with vouchers.

Paul,
Nine lost episodes of old B&W Dr Who were recently found in ?Kenya.

Rabbie,
Yes, we Americans just love cricket.
David

Paul,
Some recent reruns of Dad's Army are in B&W.

Nick,
My neighbors didn't believe me, so I assume they still can't get Ch 5. I will refer them to you.
David
-
Martin,
What is annoying is that I can only pick up Radio 4 in France on long wave, but when I turn on to hear PM I get b****y cricket.
David
-
idun,
There were/are two ways to point your aerial here to pick up ch 1-4 years ago. When 5 appeared, some people near us couldn't get it. I told them to point their aerial in the direction mine was and they would get it.

Jako,
I just looked at a list of Freeview channels on google and got ITV + 1 = freeview 33, Ch 4 + 1 = freeview 13, Ch 5 + 1 = freeview 44, ITV 2 + 1 = freeview 27, but no number listed for BBC 1 + 1. I haven't checked to see them though.
PS I checked and they are there.

Chancer,
We watch quite a lot on Freeview, BBC 3,4, ITV 3, Ch 24, Ch 31, etc, the only problem being that we can't watch one channel and record another at the same time. I guess we will have to splash out and buy a Freeview plus box. I even listen to Radio 4 on freeview channel 704. I didn't know that France was so far behind.

Superman,
I'm sure we buy it in Auchan in Calais.
David
-
idun,
Could it be the wood burning ovens a lot of pizza makers use in France?
David
-
idun,
Well, that explains it. There are certain tinned/canned things we like in Casino supermarkets. We ran into them on campsites.
David
-
idun,
OK I won't bother you ar anybody else here again.
David
PS That's only this thread. I doubt if Tefal or silicone tins were around when my mother was baking cakes. Our chicken is still laying eggs. Want to experiment on one?
PPS That's tins, not tits.
-
idun,
My American mother used to grease and flour cake tins to prevent sticking. It worked for her and it works for me.
David
-
Ian,
There are some rather large drill 'cores' from drilling the Channel Tunnel on roundabouts near Auchan in Calais. Probably a bit large for what you want...
David
-
bixy,
A couple of years ago we pulled into what we thought was a Casino supermarket and it turned out to be a gambling casino.

Benjamin,
I come from the US, but live in England. By real money, I meant euros.

A lot of things get sent to people via forums like this and others I use without the sender knowing the email address unless the person it is sent to replies. I never reply to emails like that. Quite a lot I get are from yahoo.com
