1. Monika,   If you have details I may find them handy also (We are about 3/4 of an hour north of Alencon)
2. was going to say surely theres a stop cock in the street
3. Hi Mate,   Piece of pee to fit rubber washers in tap to offset spacer conventional tap connector (Prob 15mm 90 degree) to the other end cw fibre washer pretty much as expected.   Water hawk doesn't set up as such,  it simply helps the fibre washer make a seal. as you have offset arrangement a jigged set up wont be needed as you can adjust the tails to suit simply by nipping them up a bit.   Good luck
4. Hi Charlie, Not an experienced French Plumber but fine UK wise I wonder if an end feed 15mm / 3/4 tap connector wouldn't actually slide into the 16mm pipe then could be soldered bit like back to front way of how we would do it here with the 15mm tube sliding into the fitting. Regards making up the joint if using fibre washers I would use jointing compound like Hawk or similar (putty at a push) rubber washers require no sealant just don't overtighten. I am gussing the rubber seals are for the tap to offset leg joints and the fibre for tap connectors but without seeing them is hard to comment further, hope this is of some help. Regards,
5. I would love to restore an old Kawasaki KH Triple if I could find one, don't have space to do it in the UK but was thinking maybe I could find one either here or in France and restore it there where I have loads of space. Do I need to register the bike in France or do the equivalent of SORN? Would I have any issues with taking a French bike over to the UK ie VAT or anything like that?
6. If you are getting rid, an aquaintance of mine is about to buy one  could ask if he's interested in the plate?
7.
It isn't just cheques, when you write letters you should put the place you are writing it from as well as the date. French etiquette really.
I wouldn't dream of sending someone a letter without my name and return address, maybe Scottish etiquette
8. Hi Bugbear you didn't visit York Minster or Windsor Castle by any chance did you?

10. To the contrary (In the UK), you must however advise them beforehand that you require a full statement of accounts detailing sub contract payments made detailing why or if any have not been paid. You can if not satisfied that payments have been rightfully witheld advise the main contractor that you have had an application for payment made by the sub-contractor and that it is in your opinion as the employer rightfully due. You could then give him say 14 days to settle his account as he should. Should he fail to do so you will pay the sub-contractor direct and will require him to please omit the elements of work carried out by the sub contractor from the bill of quants, also adjust the main contract sum accordingly.   Then again you might not
11. We bought a Curtess condenser dryer as it was pretty cheap, it has been good thus far we will be saving the water for the iron now...didn't think off that ....doh!
12. I suspect that I would need to be a registered farmer to be able to pull that stunt off!
13. Cheers Bob, I thought cars were silly prices...but why?
14. Maybe it harks back to regional taxation?
15. Warning bells are ringing here. When we bought our house a local peasant lady rented an outbuilding and a shed from the previous owners. The outbuilding (A Byre) we asked her to vacate however let her continue to use the shed in which she keeps a few sheep. In front of the shed she has erected a rudimentary fence to create a walkway for the sheep into a field which she rents from A. N. Other. We have no problem with the sheep grazing our land when we are not there and take the view that as no money is changing hands we are helping a neighbour out and probably benefit as she keeps an eye on the house. Do we need to excercise rights over the land to keep them ie maintin the fence on the far side of the pathway to show our boundaries as including it? Would hate to think our neighbour would turn us over particularly as I was going to flatten the shed she uses and build her a new one nearer the field, when she goes we may run some sheep ourselves.
16. Hi, was thinking of getting a second hand quad bike for pulling a trailer around my place generally moving muck etc. What are the rules re- insurance etc do the French have an equivalent to UK Agricultural useage? Any recommendations for a supplier 53 district?   Regards,

18. Errr re "Groundhog Day" I am hoping I am ok on UK green card wth my UK registered bike even although I have a house in France? Was thinking of buying a jallopy to keep over there but how does the French mot and tax equivalent work out and do I need to sit a French driving test once I am resident?
19.
If I cut gaine or hosepipe and sheath them can I point up over them? The Good Lady is being a bit neurotic about it so I agreed to ask the question before starting. There are no joins, it's a straight run of about 2m. 20. Fascinated reading this thread, astonished at the Celts staying together bit....and I am a Celt....bigotry and sectarianism not my bag... I do recall visiting a Chateau in Lassay Les Chateux and asking whether there was an English guide (I was young and foolish...ok ok it was a year ago!) The very nice French chap advised yes there was, if we would just wait while he got organised. We stood for awhile waiting for the guide person when the little French chap popped up again and handed us a folder with his speil all printed in English...and "I will say ze numberr for ze words" or something similar and toddled off to begin the tour. This set the afternoon up for a bit o hilarity as we wer the only English speakers there and the French were unaware that my other half speaks pretty good French and understood most of what was being said! Now I should explain the lady wife is half Chinese not immediately obvious as she is tall and not particularly Chinese in apperance. Anyway I digress, off we go on the tour we hung back at the back of the group so that the surreptitious translation service didn't wind anyone up. There's a bit of Laughter at the front of the group as our guide decides to wax lyrical about the hundred years war and a few heads turn around, I felt at that point it was appropriate to advise the group that sorry to disappoint but Moi was Escossaise, people were instantly more friendly! and the sideways glances stopped, that was until our friend the guide deciding e was on safe ground said something about the Chinese that her indoors wasn't too keen on, then they discovered she was a Chinese French speaker and an outspoken one at that, the group were laughing their heads off, happy days.
21. Our C A debit card is only about 5 euros per month
22. Health Warning!!! Do not inhale sugar soap it's not big and it's not clever! Getting me coat.........
23. Hi Chris, Depends on what you are trying to achieve? If your lady wife wants them gone is there a better place to run them? If for some reason you have to run them over stone how about creating a casing scribing the returns back to the stone 9make sure you insulatethe pipes as the wall will just be a heat sink other wise, this way the pipes would be accessible when,or if you need (also a nice way to get sockets on a stone wall if you make the inside twin compartment then tube the cables) I would never bury copper pipe if it does percolate its going to be a real pain to sort out besides which the render would look ugly wouldn't it? A man of your talents coul be making nice Corinthian collumns with decorative capitals, or perhaps some dummy rustic framework? (The Corinthian bit not being serious!) If you like bare pipe why not run it in chromed copper or stainless? on munsen rings and tubeyour electric in similar down to metal clad sockets....thats my plan when dosh alows
24. and to cap it all the Chinese smoke like steam trains......sheeesh!
25.
BIG MAC's advice to register a legal charge against the property was my nightmare during our build/renovation. If you do that you don't punish the builder who sub-contracted the work, but the client who in the end will have to pay twice.
The Client has a duty of care to those that they employ that is why "pay when paid" is illegal in the UK building industry. It is alsowhy Client duties are enshrined in the Construction Design and Management Regulations 1994 to be amended 2007. The days of the Client pleading "I didn't know" are long gone here. I would imagine there will be some kind of equivalent legislation in France. Perfectly reasnable to ask a contractor to be "Open book" and show payments made to sub-contractors.
