  1. I tried the flirt bit? But I hadn't combed my hair washed my face. I looked like something dragged through a hedge backwards. I had a enormouse holey, dirty jumper on too, sadly holey not holy. What a bloody mess I must have looked. I had just had an enjoyable hour in Emmaus yard. Great.
  2. They were nice young men. Looked about my oldest gransons age. They did look a bit puzzled because on the other front seat were walking boots, a bra, and my dog collar, clerical , Don't ask.
  3. I was stopped today. The first time ever in my years of driving. It was just a routine check. I never drive fast, or dangerously, and always feel a bit smug that I don't. To my horror I had committed two offences. My controle technique should have been renewed in Oct 2007. Then when the nice young man was checking my  carte gris, he finds I hadn't changed my address from the gite I stayed in when I first came over here nearly five years ago. I was mortified, absolutley no excuses, ignorance or forgetfullness is not an excuse. I am glad they stopped me or I may have gone on until this October, I was sure it was then. So my little drive on a nice day has cost me 180 euro in fines. I shall have to tie a knot im my hanky. I feel such and idiot, and hopefully will be more humble in the future. The gendarme also mentioned that as I had the facility to pull a trailer on the back of my car, he hoped I had a license for the trailer. I hadn't I really didn't know I had to. He said it was definate and licence cost 48 euro. Could someone confirm this. We all waved goodbye as I drove away, but do I feel a criminal.

  6. They are also called International. A Jersey is not a Jersey if not grown there it is the soil there that makes it a jersey. A similar potato that can be brought in France is the Isle Noirmoutier. Vey yummy ;

  9. I have the most beautiful one grown from seed last year. It grew all over the front of the house. I have already planted six of the masses of seeds from it, on a heat pad, and they are about 3" long. I don't really know what to do with them as I planted in very shallow soil. I also took some cuttings that are doing well. Should I keep potting to bigger pots or what. Thank you
  10. Every time I want to post. I have to sign in. I can't put in my password without it being refused. So I use forget password, go to my email, copy, paste; such a drag. How can I give myself a nice new easy password and keep it please.
  11. Yes, about 5 years ago. Yelbid, Dibley backwards.
  12. I feel a bit of a twit. After asking the question in the first place , it has suddenly occurred to me I probably know the answer. Me, in holy orders too.   I think the answer is the decorations are kept up until fourty days,after Christmas day. Which is; The presentation of the child Jesus at the temple;  The purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary. I make that to be 2nd February.
  13. Yes I agree, bad choice of word.
  14. I have to say this person does an excellent job? I don't think all are aware that he is not insured here etc.  Though one he has just finished shave to tell conseul they have done the job. His name does not appear on anything. I shall ask him to, look at this thread. He won't change his mind; he says he has a living to make.
  15. I am posting this so hopefully the people concerned will see it, and think again. I know they use the forum; They have asked a man to do their rewiring. Said man has done many electrical jobs in area. He has a english registered ltd company, has worked here for years, doing various jobs, and good at it to. He is not a qualified electrician, is not registered here, has no siret number, no insurance. He believes he is doing nothing wrong. I am sure this is not correct. If you are considering using this man think again. I am sure this is not right, there will be no 10 yr guarantee or insurance if he injures himsef. Please can others comment so these dear friends believe me.
  16. I have been watching Hugh Fernley-Whittingstalls programme on UK tv.It occurred to me that I am not really sure what I should be looking for here in France. Can someone tell me what label do I look for for Organic free range chicken Free range chicken Free range eggs, Organic eggs Does anyone know if you can buy organic meat online in France. I had been a vegetarian for many many years. When I came to France I started eating a little meat. I have no idea about the rearing of animals here, can anyone give me a website to look at. Thank you
  17. When do the french take the chrissy decs down?  Is there an allocated day, like brits have twelve night, or do they just go on forever   I think they look more tatty than ever when left.
  18. I want some plug trays which I could get very cheaply from the garden online store uk, at a very good price, but would prefer to buy in France, but can't find any. Also 5 litre pack of Vermiculite, also very cheap UK, any ideas for online service here. Thanks
  19. Three of us went into the Marie at Chef Boutonne 79 to ask abour changing our licence to a french one. I was sure we had to take photo's etc to Niort. We were told was to go to Niort and the prefectures office would just stamp our UK licence. This is certainly not what I was told 6 months ago. Has anyone changed theirs at Niort recently; and if so what did they have to take, do.
  20. Can anyone reccommend one? It's only for me so I need one that does a small loaf, and has programmes for other things too. Jam making also. I have may have a bit of difficulty if there are not instructions in english too. I just cannot make bread by hand. Thank you
  21. Hi Val No there were quite a few venues for belly dancing in the area. I'll ask around, my belly likes a wobble.
  22. Are there still Belly Dancing lessons around Chef Boutonne. I'd like to have a go myself.
  23. I am sorry to inflict this on you lovely folks. I have no family  here. Not many friends here either due to circumstances. I have been seperated from my husband for nearly three years. I married here four years ago here. A big mistake. At nine pm last night my ex climbed over my locked gate and frightened me by peering through a window in a door. He was so very drunk. His speech was slurred . He couldn't walk straight; He had driven here too. This happens quite often, it frightens me as there have been violent episodes before. I live South Deux Serves, does anyone know where I should go for help. Thank you. Unfortunatley I cannot understand all the french in the threads on violence.
