  3. Can anyone help with one nights B and B on Monday 18th August ( 2 double rooms ) We are visiting friends who have a boat at Vermenton, South of Auxerre. We have our own house in Normandy. I have tried a couple of chambres d'hotes, but none can offer 2 rooms for that night. Many thanks Gaynor
  4. We used HIFX and they were fine . Transferred money for deposit and balance for the purchace of our house last October and then transferred the remainder to our French Bank Account. No problems at all. Minumum of 5000 needs to be changed. Which companies are giving the best rate at the moment? I think we will need some more changes and haven't checked the rates. Gaynor
  5. We opened an account at Credit Agricole in Tinchebray, Normandy. We asked for a cheque book and it was sent to out address in UK. There seemed to be no charge for this - but each time I transfer Euros from HIFX there seems to be a charge of about 13 euros . We also have a debit card from the same account ( also an annual charge ) They would not send these cards, but we had to collect it from the branch . The cards were ready when we called. As our house in France is for holidays we have not given the bank our French address and there seems to be no problem. Statements arrive regularly and diect debits have been set up OK. No problems yet...but it is early days . We have no complaints so far ( I know lots of people on the forum do about Credit Agricole!!) Staff are always friendly and obliging. We set up a deposit account linked to the current account and transfer money over OK. Good luck ! Gaynor
  6. I expect you get lots of postings like this! But all help most welcome. We are 53, 2 grown up kids, one grandson and would really like a holiday home in Normandy. (we are coming to France at the end of Jan.) We have about 50000 cash and want something which is at least habitable with some land! Any recommendations about areas? what we could get for the money? agents ? help in general? Thanks Gaynor Wingham
