1. I tend to agree about the BMW drivers, there is an expression that springs to find but since this is a family forum i refrain lol Lotus are a speciality car i spose, L-oads O-f T-rouble U-sually S-erious
2. Possibly gonna be laughed at and humiliated for the next 3 years ............but are they a species of vanilla ??
3.
Bad news is the offence is still on record.  If you are resident here and you rack up more than a couple of points then you may find they force you to change your licence for a French one so they can formalise things.  You are only entitled to hang on to your UK licence as long as you do not commit any traffic offences - the police may give a one or two point leeway, at their discretion, but rarely more.  Be careful!
Thanks for the info. Do they recoed offences for 3 years like the UK or is it indefinate.?
4. I recently got caught for speeding by a gatso camera, and my wife rang the local payment office and they stated as I had a UK licence I wouldnt lose any points...........but the fine would be the same LOL. So perhaps its worth holding on to that tatty old paper licence from the UK.
5. So what size of car are you looking at ? I think we have forgotten BMW again a solid performer with reliability although basic options are sparse.
6. Translating Words isnt a problem but combining it into everyday grammar is another thing!!!!
7.
PS Buy a cake from the local baker's as a back-up.
Might be a good idea LOL Ill try and take a photo of the fine finished plate and post it here if I can.................if it s not too flat
8. Thanks Cassis I dont want to make it too large as it may turn out Burnt LOL Whats full fat soft cheese in French? please Getting quite into this cooking lark.
9. I have promised my wife that I would make her a Cherry Cheesecake..................and was wandering what you lot use as a substitute for Digestive biscuits? This is the recipe I will be using, is it ok or is it a bit bland.? and what are the French names of the dificult products ie Mascarpone? 30g/1oz digestive biscuits ½ tsp ground cinnamon 1 tbsp butter, melted 2 tbsp mascarpone 1 tbsp double cream, whipped 30g/1oz Toblerone chocolate, chopped 1 tbsp tinned cherries, for garnish For the sauce 2 tbsp caster sugar 30g/1oz whole almonds cherry juice, reserved from the tin Thanks alot Everyone.......
10. Good thread this one. The VAG diesels ie the Pumpe Duse ones  are brutal engines but give excellent fuel economy along with startling performance. The problem i see with French cars is the fact the engines are very very good but all the stuff surrounding the car tends to fall apart/off within a fairly short peroid of time or things like the ventilation fan stops working ( Im sure someone here has had that happen) with a bill of 400 euros. The next car I reckon we will have would be either an AUDI A6 or a MERC 220 CDI for the reason that I really dont like getting into a car that half works.
11. We always buy German cars as French cars cost us too much money inthe end.......In fact I know plenty of French that have changed over to German.
12. I work for a roofing/carpentry firm here in France.......and I think your best option is to lay felt before the battens( lattes ) get put on the roof and afterwards ( if space permits) put 180mm of laine de verre ( glasswool ) between the joists ( which should be 56cm in between. Or use the new Isoover aluminiun foil that has equally good insulation effects.   As regards to leaks from a newly slated roof, does not really happen unless the carpentry of the roof as has not followed procedures of the angle ( normally 45 degrees on a new house) Anything shallower than 30 degrees  is usally a problem ( if my memory serves me right)
13. I have seen some colle that allows you to tile straight  onto the chipboard that has some fibres mixed in with it. They are fairly solid but where the joints are it soes move 1-2 mm.
14. Has anyone tiled on Chipboard before and what did you use on for a sound surface.? ps I seem to posting every 5 minutes at the moment.
15. I would have to say Brico Depot for the cheapest range of plugs.
16. I have nearly finished the house ( new) and was wandering if there was a special paint that I could use to basically white wash the walls in the Garage to make it brighter. Would Glycero be the answer( Gloss) or should I go for an emulsion. The smoother the better.
17. I have a cement sand floor  that needs to be tiled it is very dusty with sand and will be using a diluted PVA mix of 4:1 is this ok and then will be using a self levelling compound in preperation for the tiles. Whats the equivalent to PVA in France and is the raggreage ( self levelling compound )here easy to use. Thanks
18. Its for a Basin so thats good news as I think it will end up lower than needed. Cheers Tim
19. Sorry to hijack this thread it is very interesting. When is it normally used the double lined flue as I have a option to pass a flue in a plasterboarded box partion of 60x60 could I use Firerock insulation? and use normal single skinned liner or would I have to go for the double. thanks Tim
20. Thanks   I am plumbing my sink in the bathroom now and have a slight query. I am using 40mm piping for the drainage and have a situation that the drainage will run 2.3m along the outside wall and then turn 90 degrees into the partition. whats the norm for the fall of the pipe. I have heard it is 10mm in 300mm is this right?   Can the fall be increased?   Thanks   Tim

23. Thanks for the info. The system is a europsat 80cm analogue unit, so how do I check if it will work with my skydish. I have a sky dish already set up to Astra but understand that Astra does not transmit analogue signals. I just feel that if we can get this to work it would more pleasiong to the eye that the normal  80cm dish.   Thanks   Tim
24. Does anyone know if the French Telecom 2b satallite is to be switched off? Thanks  Tim
25. I bought a French Analogue Satallite system yesterday, and was wandering if I can use my second Sky dish, to receive the Normal French Channels. The reason being is that the sky dish is almost twice as small. Anyone know if this can be done?   Cheers   Tim
