  1. Google France your item, Kelkoo will also produce a lot of results. There's loads of places, check the end prices carefully though, they disguise TVA and post costs sometimes.   HTH
  2. I'm looking for the lowest monthly fee possible. I need to be able to upload a Flash design to the site, I don't want a template. The cheapest seem to be in the US at around $8/month.
  3. Go to the France Telecom website, look up Haut Debit and there's a place where you can input a phone number or post code to find out if Broadband access available.   HTH
  4. Isn't it just like English, qui (who) for people/names, que (that) for objects ?
  5. Thanks for the help. No wonder I couldn't get a logical response on Babel with 'comme' meme. I've mostly heard it used as an intensifier tagged on the end of an adjective statement so 'C'est utile quand même'. So 'it's worth doing' is literally it's worth the pain of doing. I like that expression "c'est de bonne guerre", is that literally it's of/from a good war ? I wonder how that came to mean 'fair enough' ? We've battled well, both tried our best, so the result is fair, perhaps.
  6. The comme meme tag, am I right in thinking it stresses the point being made - c'est jolie comme meme for example. Also how would you  translate - it's not worth doing or it's worth trying ?   TIA
  7. I agree that the tranquility between 12 and 2 and indeed all day on Sundays is something to value and have decided to observe it myself. It was the tirade that bothered me, in fact I had thought about waiting til his nap the following Sunday, stealthily set up my speakers by the hedge and then blasting him with the strains of 'White Zombie' until an apology was forthcoming. Apparently it works in the American gulags.
  8. I know Assurland, have tried a search here and googled, hadfa good site on my dead hard disk but can't remember what it was called and it doesn't come up on google. Looking to insure my 2CV, with no NCB.
  9. Books, you mean from that site or elsewhere ? What I'd really like are old black & white photos of life here and specifically in my oldest (original) building, but no neighbours seem to have any and are not interested. The original smallholders were perhaps too poor to have had photos taken anyway. The other day I found a 20 centimes piece from 1863, Napoleon IIIs' head on it, must've been dropped by someone laying the old drive, 150 odd years ago.
  10. in 1750 ! http://www.notrefamille.com/v2/services_cassini/carte.asp?cid=100
  11. I'll check at the Marie then. As for bonfires, here in the Vendee (85) you can't have a bonfire throughout the Summer (June to Oct I think) because of the fire risk.
  12. Is there a law against using machinery on Sundays or is it just a cultural thing ? I beleive there are such laws in Germany but I've never heard of any here. My neighbor just went ballistic over me interrupting his nap with a spot of cutting, he's not well liked round here anyway so it may just be him but I'm curious as to the meaning of his tirade about 'interdit' on Sundays.
  13. The best tea in the world as I know it, apart from a cup I once had in Georgetown Penang, is Yorkshire Tea http://www.yorkshiretea.co.uk/home.asp well worth the postage. The quality of your local water will have a lot to do with the taste though, they sell both hard and soft water tea. I beleive they'll even send you a free sample.
  14. Has anyone received wine from outside the EU in the post ? I'm wondering if there'll be any tax to pay as it will be quite an expensive vintage.

  16. Is there a different format for a CV here ? TIA
  17. Any Poitiers airport experts out there ? Is there a shuttle bus to and from the town/station ? If not how much are taxis ? Is there secure parking (2-3 weeks).
  18. Meanwhile...I went out and bought a couple of pine madriers to do the job. From what I've read here and elsewhere I could've used the chestnut but it would take too much time to trim it down and also haul it into position. I'll keep it for other uses. Thanks for the input.
  19. Specifically I want to use it for the ridge - length about 6 metres - and nail the rafters to it. Though it'll be a lot of work trimming it down to size and shape.
  20. I've always daytraded the US markets. I quit to do my renovation project here but I did trade full time - and will again. I loved the freedom of it - no boss, no customer and as a foreigner trading  the US mkt - no tax.
  21. I saw some green oak used in the construction of a house on Grand Designs last year. I have a freshly felled chestut tree that would be ideal to use in the the roof structure of a garage I'm building. Has anyone any experience or advice on working with green wood ?
  22. Can anyone recommend a deal on  a ferry crossing to Eire - the best I've seen is a two night return for e229 - Irish Ferries.
