  1. Yes the attachment is different, when we visit France we take with us an adaptor, which screws into the filling point on the car for use with the French system. I would suspect an adaptor is available for converting French to UK also?
  2. Would i be correct in saying that: it's not worth bringing into France on a permanent basis a petrol car which i had converted to gpl in Britain 3 years ago. The reasoning behind the statement being that as i understand it there isn't a European standard for the installation, and the the whole "gubbins" would have to be removed, and a new system installed by a French company. Any advice would be most helpful.
  3. Hi,  as we are soon to undertake another marathon tour of France, i would like to know the current autoroute fuel prices for diesel, gpl and 95 unleaded. any help would be gratefully received.
  4. Well i'm amazed at the comments regarding graffiti. In the past year or so, we have diven the best part of 8,000 miles on holidays, not into cities i'll admit, but have yet to see any graffiti at all, honest. This compares with a Nottingham local tv article where a correspondent was sent out into the city centre and in one stint photographed 360 different examples of graffiti. I think it averaged 1 example every 10 seconds. As i mentioned we steer well clear of cities, but the small towns and villages were, for us, graffiti free.
  5. It's really tough for parents & students alike in the UK. Our eldest, who graduated 3 years ago, now has a mortgage, a young daughter, and student debt of around £7000. The youngest, who is in 3rd year, but going on for a Masters, has debts of £14000+ and this is with all the help we can give him. Soon the tuition fees could treble, and i shudder to think what the debts of some of these students will be. They certainly wont be able to buy a house. I'm not sure what the answer is, but to carry on this way is not a long term option IMHO.
  6. I think you missed the point i was making. It's no surprise to me that there are French students in Britain, the surprise was Hull. The University is well regarded, but the weather can be a bit depressing, as they have commented to my son. The bit about brushing up English language skills in Hull, was a joke.
  7. My youngest son attends Hull University, and the surprising thing is, that there are a number of students from Brittany, studying business etc. The French girl with whom he shares a house, is there not only for the course, but to improve her English. In Hull? The grey weather seems to be the downside......
  8. I seem to remember the economy capacity is around 850 passengers, this is of course without the olympic size swimming pool, tennis courts and motocross circuit  The UK newscast i watched mentioned that the plane was merely assembled in France, no mention that the fuselage was constructed in Toulouse.
  9. Well just like many others both before us & currently, we have agonised for such a long time as to whether or not to take the plunge. The final conclusion we came to, is that we would sooner try & fail, rather than spend the rest of our lives "wondering" Not very scientific i know, but we are only here once (i think) so lets make the most of it.
  10. Hi, Apologise if i hijacked another persons post, but there was some relevance to the original. I have used Autocad and microstation in the past, don't know visio professional (yet) but personally, give me a pencil any day. Thanks all for your input.
  11. Thanks, John not Di,   I didn't really believe things could be that simple.   Bedders
  12. Just for future reference as we are still in the uk is it possible/legal to draw up ones own plans for a conversion, and then get them certified by a local registered architect before submission? Obviously for a fee. The reasoning is, ideas change over a period, and i wouldn't wish to pay 3 times for the same thing. ( i have been a draughtsman for over 30yrs)   Many thanks, Bedders
  13. Thanks for the replies. One thing i didn't realise (not being a skier) was the requirement to be within 15 mins of the slopes. I suppose it makes sense after a tough day on the runs, a 1hr drive would be the last thing one would want. I'll not be put off by the number of gites already available, some may be duffers, others overpriced etc etc. Knowing some of the area already, i cant think of anywhere else on the planet i'd rather live. Maybe i'll try a similar post on the SW France forum.
  14. We would dearly love to make 2005 the year of our move to the Pyrenees, anywhere between Tarascon in the east to Pau in the west. Does the panel think it is feasible to expect some winter gite bookings in this area. Similarly, is it a strong area for summer bookings? So much is riding on this, as it would be a struggle to survive on July/August plus a few odd bookings alone. It's a damn long drive from the UK (we've done it twice recently) but not far for the French from say, Tolouse. Any opinions/observations would be most welcomed.
  15. As this is my first post, and having read the acrimonious comments further back, i'm almost frightened to join in. I have a question relating to headlamps, and that is: My Omega estate has Zenon headlamps, and they have a lever to adjust for continental driving. They don't give the equivalent of lhd settings but do make it safe for oncoming traffic. Would this satisfy the standards required by the CT?: Yours nervously.....
