1. Maggie's offered to pay if he can find another 67,999 people to match her donation.     [6]
2. Daftness isn't the sole preserve of French supermarkets. Two days ago I went into our local village branch of Nationwide Building Society. Could you change this tenner for two fivers please? You'll have to pay it in to your account and then draw it out. Pardon? Do you have an account here? Yes, Do you have your (bank) card with you. Err.....no. Can't do it then. I exited muttering chocolate teapot. Added to the withdrawal of commision free foreign card transactions that is just about it for me with this Building Society. (Current advertising "you do need a  bank account but you don't need a bank".
3. But they aren't isolated incidents. West Midlands crime squad. 1980's (?). Hillsborough. And now the latest (if believed) attempt to "change" the facts.
4. Sorry to have left you bait dangling for so long Chiefluvvie: a waste of a worm today I'm afraid. I'll join Betty and take it as another "no".
5. Chiefluvvie  I'll keep most of my comments to myself.Suffice it to say you bit, as expected, at the Steve Penk posting. You have what appears to be a well developed propensity for only commenting on pieces where you feel you can score a point. Tell me which bit of the following you disagree with as I've now said it twice.
if they're as sorry as they claim to be they should have resinged
6. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Penk Steve Penk, arch wind-up merchant. Pay special attention to the last two paragraphs. There's plenty of precedent for what could go wrong with hoax calls. Lets hope he's correct about these two unprofessional btoadcasters who couldn't be bothered to undertake any research into what can happen in this situation. I said it earlier and there's nothing been posted that makes me want to change my opinion, if they're as sorry as they claim to be they should have resinged instead of parading themselves around TV stations.
7.
I'd be interested to know what on earth has happened to the other nurse - the one who actually passed on the info. Chiefluvvie
Why? How do you think it will help this poor woman or add anything to this thread? It's this endless pursuit into every nook and cranny and under every stone that fuels the gutter press to feed the answer, any answer that they feel will sell papers, to people like you.  No personal offence intended of course.
8. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/the-best-ebook-readers-for-under-%C2%A3100-112212367.htm I don't know much about them but this short list might help. l
9. I don't believe there's anything illegal in disposing of this vehicle to another person so long as they understand the situation. If it was me I'd write the bill of sale/receipt with that on it. Somewhere in your area there will be a breaker's yard/spare parts dealer. Why not go and talk to them as they should be able to see some value in it for them even if it only gets it off your property.
10. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/royal-prank-djs-just-want-sorry-070922921.html Reading this link to Yahoo News it appears that they didn't restrict themselves to one station but certainly appeared on more than one show. What's happened to the old fashioned way of putting out a carefully worded statement and leave it at that. I cannot begin to imagine what the tragic woman's family are going through knowing that this pair are parading on T V shows trying to express regret but also trying to shirk any responsibility for the tragic outcome. The start of a careful campaign to rehabilitate themselves back into their jobs at some time in the future? If they're that sorry why not just resign?
11.
In a few minutes of frivolity someone ruined that for her. That she would only have taken it very badly if she had 'issues' is a rather arrogant suggestion. Only she could know what really mattered to her. It really isn't all right to humiliate someone so publicly. I'm glad my mistakes weren't newsworthy. Hoddy
Thank you for that Hoddy. I also thought I'd strayed on to a forum where several "suicide analysis experts" were posting. Dreadful case which smacks of Ross and Brand again. I'll talk to big Sis in WA in the morning to see what the reaction there is.
12. Don't ignore Cava, now readily available in supermarkets. Our choice is Freixenet Cordon Negro. Available as Brut or Semi Seco. Whilst in Spain earlier this year we bought some "on special" at €3.99 but it should retail any way at about €5.00 (except of course in rip off Britain where it's about £10). As has been said already Vouvray is also a good alternative without costing too much.
13. I see, in one of Sunday's papers (can't link because I wont subscribe) that it has finally dawned on Ed Miliband and his advisors that there will be a General Election to be fought in 2015. The backpedalling has started. Also, three of the Advisors to the Leveson enquiry were not in favour of statutory legislation.
14.
Although, what would I attach this thing to if I didn't wear a bra?
No doubt a Moderator will be along shortly, but I'm pretty certain that this comment breaches the Forum Code of Conduct.  [6] I feel quite ill. I'll have to lie down in a quite and darkened room.   [:-))]
15. I am starting to be very concerned at the (pre-planned?) campaign being mounted by a group of high profile, media savvy individuals, all of who have received significant libel damages, to engage the Public into bringing pressure to bear to get their way in introducing legislation to control the freedom of the UK Press. I am no lover of bad journalism but control by law will put us in the same league as many of countries who we currently critise as not having a free Press.
16.
Happy Birthday from me too, Angela.  Wot, the old banana gonna give you a prezzie, or wot?  I wouldn't expect too much, not from him anyway![:P]
Eat your heart out sweet [:P]. I bet he's planningt to invite her out to the Chateau restaurant, very expensive if she chooses the right things from the menu.  [6]
17. Having read the thread on abscence through sickness and wondering how the French system manages to afford some of the beaurocracy involved. I came across this little snippet earlier today. I'd have liked to see the actual brief for the survey but the reults are illuminating. http://uk.lifestyle.yahoo.com/uk-education-comes-sixth-global-league-table-130000692.html
18. Thanks for the update Pierre.  [:D] The only thing I'd read about this Wi fi system of just scanning the card without entering the PIN seemed to be saying that it was only for low value purchases ( up tp £15?) whereas the video link I gave talks about purchases of $100's. I suppose if you're jumping on and off the tube or in and out of coffee shops then it might save time. For me, I'm not interested and, although I'm no Luddite, it's an advance in technology that I can live without so  the cards I've got showing the symbol are still going. What bothers me about the introduction of this type of technology is that when it's introduced the fraudster sits down and, in some cases quite easly, works out how to defraud. It's then not until Mark 11 or Mark 111 is introduced that the issuer works out how to make it foolproof, or at least to make it difficult enough so that they contain their losses from fraud at an acceptable level.
19. Others may have already seen this or there may already be a thread about it but I've just looked at the accompanying (American) video link and I find it scary. I've already found cards having R F id. symbols and they are going. http://youtube.googleapis.com/v/lLAFhTjsQHw%26sns=em
20. "FOSTER PARENTS ACCUSED OF "INDOCTRINATION" OF NON-UK BORN CHILDREN PLACED IN THEIR CARE". Can'y win can they?
21. They just take a long time to marry up different bits of information. They'll get there eventually. My gut instinct with this one would be to send it to the Notaire who dealt with the sale. Did s/he not arrange for the purchaser to pay you directly for a portion of the Foncieres. I suppose because you weren't there they just took the easy option and did nothing. Sloppy b*stards.
22.
I didn't inform CPAM when I went back to the UK more than 2 years ago. Obviously I told my mutuelle in order not to have to continue to pay, but I have had no adverse contact from CPAM.
I've also noted AnOther's posting and the only situation that I can think of is any contact between Newcastle(?) and CPAM where it would appear that you are in both systems. The obvious area is CPAM trying to claim the annual amount due against, say, an S1. It takes such little effort to write a letter, and as Ernie points out, it shows politeness.
23. When we moved back I posted our cards directly to CPAM and very specifically  stated the day we would be leaving. I have no knowledge of returning them to the local pharmacy. If you haven't already spoken to them I would do so before I considered what you are proposing. Your pharmacy is not a branch of CPAM.  [:D] Again, I would speak to the mutuelle before you leave and get their agreement that they will cancel their direct debit from the day that you leave. As you have an appointment the day before you leave I would add a few days grace onto my leaving date so that any pending transactions are processed. Finally, if you're due any CPAM refunds reember to leave your bank  account open to receive them. Worked for us.  [:D]
