1.
... He had pneumonia. [:$]
That's what he said the doctor said.[Www]
 2.
Tresco, were they in business in France though, the people you spoke of were simply in a shop and that can happen, yes.  That surely is the difference but if one runs a business in France and therefore deals with the French, as I am sure this person does, then surely it is reasonable to expect  the patron to speak French sufficiently enough to handle anything that may arise ?
It seems reasonable at first glance, Shawny, but even people speaking their mother tongue 'freeze' sometimes and can't communicate clearly, so it's understandable that it happens to us immigrants. It can happen to anyone, and I don't think it's reasonable to imply someone can't run a business because of it, though if I'm ever intending to stay at Quillans I might wear my 118 sweatshirt.[;-)] The people I was speaking of were different people, some were in emergency situations (chimney fire, nasty broken limb) the others were people who said it just happens 'out of the blue' eg as in the shop example, where they arrived home with their useless product thinking 'what the hell happened to my French? Beforehand I knew exactly what to say and what might be asked of me. Where did my French Gooooooo?'[:)]
 3. Men are a bit flaky when it comes to a cough or a cold aren't they?  It's not just Mr Head. Well, mostly it is.[:D]
 4.
So girls - is this how it really is?[:)] http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=3iZ_47BxHRw
Only if you're married to Chris Head. [:-))] OOOPS
 5.
Sorry but I read that as one of "what are you doing running a place in France and not being able to do the simplest thing, like ringing a Doctor/Samu Pompiers when required " ?
But he did ring the Pompiers. I've have heard loads of people say the same thing...their French 'freezes' in an emergency or even just when they are trying to return some broken bit of tat to Auchan, if the staff are being stroppy. I still practice emergency questions and answers in my head but I have little doubt the same thing would happen to me.
 6.
Sheesh! and it's not even 1st April - talk about gullibility  [:P]
I was waiting for that word. [:$][:D] Oh well. Come on Ernie, tell us your tale.[:)]
 7.
Greetings...I am Dr Englebert NewtoFrance and I am a high official in the Dordogne Chateau Owners Club ...I have heard that you are trustworthy person, so I want to offer you 25% if you will give me £10,000 to cover travel expenses, plus your bank account details and PIN number....
[:'(] Oh please let it not be true!!!
 8.
Hope this works , watch it first then add you own family http://www.elfyourself.com/?id=1303808461
I made these for all the children I know last year. It's so funny.[:D]
 9.
Would anybody say anything if it were undrinkable vinegar, I doubt it. The principle rmains the same, only the value differs.
Even undrinkable wine can fetch thousands, because experts want to taste them to see how they've developed. The bottles of wine should be left where they are, untouched, and the OP should contact Christies or an auction house of their stature. They will be there like a shot, analyse the wine and catalogue it. The more meddling around with them that's done, the more doubt may be cast on the provenance, and this can affect the price achieved at auction. I follow wine auctions and this is an extremely unusal find. Mr Tresco. (See, he does exist, this brought him out of the woodwork).
 10.
There were also some materials I could not identify, I have an idea what they are but am worried about moving them….
Sorry, just seen this. Do you mean they might be dangerous materials? Or perhaps fragile? This is my favourite first post ever! It's just brilliant[:)]
 11.
Newto france. Are you single? Regards.
[:D]
 12. Drat! The car filled barn was in Portugal - and it now seems less clear what the outcome was. Sorry about that. http://http://www.sportscarmarket.com/articles/archives/1110 I agree with what Cat says about the documents, gdo knows what's going to get stirred up by them but they should certainly be examined by people who understand their importance (or otherwise).
 13. Hello.[:)] That's absolutely fascinating. There was a story recently of a house that had been bought here, where it was later found that a barn (that hadn't been inspected before the purchase) had dozens and dozens of what are now classic/vintage cars. The last I heard was that they were off to auction (lucky purchaser!). However, while I may think all this stuff is yours to do with as you wish, I doubt it's a simple as that in this instance. You better wait for someone who knows the law to come along.[:$] The documents sound intriguing, to say the least. Could you keep us informed about what transpires, please? What was the wine like? How does 50Es a bottle sound? You've got plenty, after all.[:-))][6]
 14. Thank goodness. I was just about to reply that cats can be bereft when they lose a companion, and that mine went for about a day and a half without food after my old cat died. They had never even been the best of friends. 4 days was pushing it though. I'm so glad he's eating again.[:)]
 15.
It can only be James can't it ?
James and I are very close.
 16. That's really odd. I got a slightly different message. Server Error in '/cs' Application. A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login Big Sloppy Kiss and Proper English Cuddle.  When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections....
 17.
Hi  I can't see a website link in Samanta's posts so thanks for the info.
Bastet, it's the WWW blue button at the bottom of Sams post, next to the pm and email buttons. Lot's of members link to their website that way.[:)]
 18.
Just wondered what you all like watching on French TV?
Rex.  Rex helps the police with their enquiries, frequently solving complex cases for his dopey masters. He's the doggy version of Skippy the Bush Kangeroo, or Champion the Wonderhorse. There are a couple of other things (more serious things) but that's my favourite programme at the moment. [:)] It starts sometime around 5.30, but I can't remember which channel. It's probably 3.
 19.
Muslims are supposed to wash their face, hands and feet thoroughly before praying. If you think about it, it is very hygienic and logical. Of course, as with many things, it is not always practical to be thorough in these things, as when travelling.
Hi WB. I kind of 'knew' the 'rule', but the people I know don't do this...well not in circumstances where they're away from the family home, and not just travelling either. I asked because I only really have contact with the members of one family. It's a pretty big family with a wide variation in practises. If you stay with other people and they with you, then you get some clues, but I know the clues from one family are not enough to say 'they' ALL do this (or that), as some people seem to suggest.
 20.
Naah rons just looking for his best photo   [:D]
You are clearly the more optimistic of us, GG. [:)]
 21.
Facing  Mecca when praying is not required when ill, travelling or I think fighting a war. It is only encouraged.
What do you know about the washing before prayer, WB? I know people who will splash a couple of drops from their bottle of Evian on their hands before prayer.  A symbolic thing?
 22.
Still waiting...............................;;
We are both waiting for different things on this thread, GG. I think we may both have to wait some time...[;-)]
 23.
Another one you could'nt make up.   The Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust are piloting a policy to turn Muslim patients beds towards Mecca.  As well as moving beds nurses must also provide fresh bathing water prior to each of the 5 daily prayer sessions at the hospital.   Shortage of nurses yet additional duties must be done.  MRSA superbugs, C.Diff, yet additional duties must be done.[:@]
my bold As far as I can see you haven't provided any evidence for the first lot of things you claimed were true. You're exaggerating. The advice given was to turn the beds of very seriously (gravely?) ill patients. It's ironic that you complain about the suggestion that water should be provided for hand washing, and then go on to mention MRSA, but once again you're getting upset over something that's wildly exaggerated. Most patients in hospitals do everything they can to help themselves. Those who can't help themselves need...help.  We are talking about only seriously ill people here. Does this point make a difference, 47? Edit; Sorry, Hoddy. I missed your post.
 24.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/7125521.stm
There is not a single mention of 'banning' (or corncrakes) in this article. Nor can I find the Law Which Banned Golliwogs anywhere. I'm forced to conclude that this is simply a late manifestation (it started very early on TF this year) of the Tri-Annual 'They're trying to ban Christmas/Easter/Our Great British Bendy Bananas' Festival. It's becoming quite a tradition in its own right.
 25.
BTW - I think Jay Jay has run out of peanut butter kit-kats[:)]
Uh Oh! JayJ running riot then? [:-))] Oh well...I'm sure there are worse things than that going on.
