  1. Cheers Polremy - I am sure I am worrying about nothing. I will enjoy the Internet for the moment as have been without it for 3 weeks since I moved out here. How did we ever cope without it?????
  2. I only have 1 telephone socket and that has a filter on it. My phone is an Alcatel (base and combine), I have the base connected to the livebox and the combine is just plugged into the electric socket. There is no phone connection for that as it is just a second handset.
  3. Hi Puzzled - My telephone icon doesnt even blink. If I get a positive answer (from somewhere) I will pass it on to you. My set up is so simple I am sure I have it set up right. It can only be that they havent activated it yet I think. When people have tried to ring they get a message from the French operator saying that the line is not activated. I can use the fixed line no problem (at a price!).
  4. Panda, Thanks for reply. Logged onto the IP address and chose the Phone by ADSL box, clicked on modifier as you suggested. It took me to a screen showing all my settings. The line was 'disactive' but couldnt change it. The only box that said inactif that I could change was 'secret permanent' but dont know what that is so left it. Although I couldnt activate the line I now know what the admin log on does so that will be helpfull. Anton, Yes I have received an email with my 09 number. As it was only this morning perhaps I ought to wait a bit longer eh?   It isnt a case of 're-booting' the Livebox is it, it hasnt been off since I installed yeterday but Ithought you were supposed to leave it on. However when going back to England or during a storm it will have to go off. Is it then just a question of switching on, no parameter changes or anything?   Thanks again - will try the ringing numbers and checking tones as well. The only other phone I have is a mobile and the battery has just died on me wouldnt you know it!
  5. Indirectly in that the phone is connected to the converter and then into the phone socket on the Livebox.
  6. I have my Livebox set up and Internet access is fine. I have subscribed to 'Telephone Illimite' and have received my confirmation email that the line is 'disponible'. However the light on the Livebox next to the telephone symbol is not alight which, according to the leaflet sent, means that the telephone illimite is not 'disponible'. Anyone know whether I have a problem or is it just something that takes a while? I only installed Livebox yesterday and only received the email today so I may be jumping the gun. I dont want to be caught out by telephone bills that I wasnt expecting! I am pretty sure I have wired up properly with the modem line (cable gris ADSL) from the filter to the Livebox and the phone plugged into the converitisseur blanc and then into the Livebox. I can ring the number they gave me and it rings but I assume that if I picked up it would be as per ligne fixe price. Any advice greatly received. If it wasnt for this forum I wouldnt have got this far I dont think! Thanks Mike
  7. Certainly agree that the only way is to go to your local FT office. I had a problem with my original fixed line installation and I wanted them to come out again. The number that the engineer gave me just put me through to 1014 then they said I needed some other number etc etc. I was also told that they wouldnt accept an English mobile no as a contact number (I have been here 3 weeks and changing my mobile hasnt been my priority). When I went to the FT office they were extremely helpful. My French is pretty good I suppose which helps but even so they arranged everything and suggested I give them my English mobile no as contact (grrrr - yes the French are no different, left hand and right hand etc etc). I now have a new line, telephone and Internet. Any future problems I am jumping in the car to the FT office. There doesnt seem to be a better way.
  8. Charentais Melon halves scouped out and filled with Muscat de Beaumes de Venise Hot Crottin de Chavignol on toast and a crisp white Sancerre or Menetou Salon Rule of thumb also - never cook with a wine that you wouldnt drink by the glass so eg bouef bougignon should be made with a decent Burgundy I have found that Sancerre blanc is good with spicy dishes, chinese, curries etc A variation on kir - red sancerre (chilled) and peach juice makes a lovely summer aperitif   In case you hadnt guessed I am from the Sancerre region!!!
  9. I always clean them with the back of a knife, gently over the surface. As I live in the Sologne (central France 18) there are many good places for Girolles, especially after a good night of rainfall. Pickers are very secretive about their location(s). The prices, even in the market, are pretty high but what a treat when you cook them with some garlic and butter and myabe a bit of thyme. Superb!
  10. I am in a similar position to Onion Van Man except that I do not have any telephone socket as all connections were dropped at least 25 years ago. So as I am starting from scratch as it were do I have to go through FT or are there other options for me? Any idea on timescales to get FT (or anyone else) to put in sockets and connect you up? OK Broadband can come afterwards. I am having the whole house rewired so does the electrician do the sockets or do FT? Sorry - bit new at this game!
