  1. (1) A cheap spray solution for killing green and white fly on Roses is to use washing up liquid and water, (even the water used for cleaning the dishes, just spray onto the roses (cool water never hot) it wont last as long as the insect liquids made for the job but it,s cheap and if used a few times aweek will do the job. (2) Slug killer, use an old saucer or 2 inch deep lid and fill it with beer, (Its cheap enough in France) the Slugs will smell the beer and end up drowning, but a happy way to die and by not using the wrong slug pellets this method will not kill the birds should the bird decide to eat the dead slug. (3) Put your cut flowers in a vase ect filled with white lemonade, the flowers will last much longer and only put Daffs in a vase on there own, as no other flowers will last very long in the same container due to a chemicle the Daffs contains that forces other flowers to wilt quickly.
  2. In my attempt to help make this page one of the best on the forum, I,d like to try this, How about all the keen garden and outside users (BAR. B. Q.) etc giving any not so known bits of Info,? Im sure we would be Interested to read some of the different ways of doing things, here,s mine to start us off. MISTETOE. Did you know that not only is Mistetoe used as a pick me up going back many years, but it is one of the only plants not to have it,s own roots or growing place, ie it will only growe in Trees and the Black bird is the only Bird that will eat the the white berries. this plant needs no soil to growe and the DRUIDS beleaved the Misteltoe tobe sacred and contain great power for healing.
  3. Here is the chance for all our budding garden poets to complete this,--------------------There was a young lady from LEEDS, who ate a packet of seeds, within the hour her---------------- (well come on then, try. and do your best, and keep it clean.)
  4. I was talking to a friend who had just been to one of my old haunts, the BRIDGEMERE GARDEN CENTRE NR, STONE, and he was telling me all the bargain plant prices etc, and then he said the latest thing was DOOR MOUSE nest box. and its not much bigger than a door mouse, Well who,d believe it,? and he was telling me they were selling like hot cakes. It makes you wonder whats next. Danny.
  5. Ive noticed just how much more costly Roses are here in dept 23 anyway, are they costly in your verious depts, ie the average bush rose here is anything from 12 to 15 e.and the standard are o.t.t. let us know the prices your asked and the dept your in so we can see if theres any differences.
  6. It,s due to a thing called booze crues, and thats all.
  7. Ive a nest pot made from a clay plant pot thats got two blue ##### working away to make a home for the chicks, this is a very cheap and simple way of providing both a home for the chicks and hours of entertainment, all you have to do is cut a piece of wood to cover the opening of the plant pot and put four nails in the wood (one in each corner) and using a wire coat hanger cut two pieces of wire long enough to go from one corner across the the pot to the opposit corner, so you end up with a x shape, across the hole in the bottom of the pot, this wire is now holding the pot onto the piece of wood covering the opening of the pot, all you should see is the drainage hole, this is now the entrance for the birds to get in to the nest, all thats left to do is find a nice sight thats safe and away from direct winds, and you got a very cheap and natural bird nesting pot that will last for years,

  10. Hi MOLEY WE ARE IN DEPT 23 (NR AIGURANDE) AND LIKE YOU AT THIS TIME IN OUR LIVES WE USE OUR PLACE FOR THE HOLIDAYS AND AS I TOOK MY EARLY RETIRING, I GO AS MUCH AS I CAN IN THE YEAR, SO WE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS YOU BUT AS WE ARE THREE AND A HALF MILES FROM AIGURANDE AND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE COUNTRYSIDE WE,VE NO CHANCE OF GAS HEATING. WE,VE HAD OIL FULL CENTRIAL HEATING WITH A WOODBURNING STOVE AS A SEPERATE FORM OF HEAT. WE FOUND THE STOVE IS NICE AND COSY AND IT HELPS A LOT TO KEEP THE FUEL BILLS DOWN, HOPE THIS HAS HELPED. LET US KNOW WHEN YOUR NEXT IN DEPT 23 AND WE'LL HAVE A DRINK AND A CHAT REGARDS DANNY PS WE KNOW OF A FIRST CLASS FRENCH HEATING ENGINEER IF NEEDED, HE IS GOOD AND HAS BEEN TRADING IN THIS AREA FOR MANY YEARS.
  11. Any one know of a company that deals in the supply of woodturning lathes. Im in dept 23, nearest larger town is LA CHATRE. Im after the bigger lathe rather than the smaller hobby ones?
  12. Hi CI-CI You dont say if your living in france or have a holiday home so the ans/ I have is for the materials to be purchased in the u/k. Here goes get yourself in contact with a comercial cleaning supply company (Yellowe/pages) And you need to ask for a hard tile floor stripping chemicle, Now depending on the size of the floor area will depend if you need to use a srubbing/machine or if a small area you can do a on your knee,s job. if you do use any stripping chemicle make sure you use the rubber gloves. All you do is read the instructions and having applied the chemicle just wait and then you will see the glue etc just pealing off. make sure you give the floor a very good clean with water and let it dry and then put a seal on it and enjoy many months of just the odd mop when needed, You can get the seal and if needed hire the srubbing machine from the commercial cleaning supply. hope this has helped
