  1. why everybody is so skeptical with mortgages in France!!!It's absolutely wrong to think immediatly that a bank won't agree to set up a mortgage if you intend to create a business with it.Like Val 2 said, try & see,
  2. Hello,   if you look my website perhaps you'll find an answer to your problem. I hope so...   Céline
  3. Dear Rob,   the tax declaration for 2004 should be done at the end of february 2005, then if it's the 1st time you do it, you'll pay the total amount in September/october 2005.The year after the taxes would take in reference your income for 2004 and if you require it you could pay monthly, but if you don't you should in 3 time, one in february, one in may/june and the last in september/october. As soon as you have an income from UK or anywhere else than from Franceyou should add to the "normal form" another one special for foreign income which will avoid that if you've already paid taxes on it to pay it twice, but don't worry if you go to the tax office they know which one it is.  I don't remember if you have to convert it or just put the amount in £ and they will convert it. The main way to pay it is a direct debit on your french account, but if you don't have one you could pay in cash directly to the tax office. I hope i've answered all your question. Cheers. 4. i'm reading all your topics about how to get a mortgage in France ...it seems so difficult, but in fact it's really simple!!! I really agree that english and french banks don't have the same way to do it but it doesn't mean that it's more difficult. I agree too that some banks are asking so many papers that you could be afraid, but those are not the good one to deal with. It's true that you've to proof your identity, your income and if you own some estate in UK or France, but here are the main things required.Subject to your status, some other details could be asked, but never your grandmother's maiden name!!!If you want to buy with a SCI, it's no more difficult, it's just a different way to do it.I'm so surprised to be in touch with people who are sure they will never get any mortgage and who are completely wrong, just because they had a bad advice with a bank which didn't really considered their request or just don't understand it, because of the language barrier!!! I'm used to getting mortgages, bridging loans or loans for overseas or resident people(main from UK) who want to buy a property in France(and i know some banks ready to set up a bridging loan if you sale your house in UK to buy a new one in France) and i manage to get the best rate with the less bank fees i can. And when you calculate that for example just getting 0.5 % ( 4.00 % instead of 4.5 %) for a mortgage of 150 000 € on 20 years makes you save 9600 €, you'll understand immediatly your interest... 5. Dear Sheila, It is only if you've suscribe in France an "Assurance vie"(life insurance) or a PERP(which is a special saving which is not available before being retired) which allow you to deduct the amount shown below. Cheers.   Céline www.makeiteasyconsulting.com

  7. hi Clara,   i'm a native of Bordeaux(but i live now in Dordogne) and of course i know well the area. It's really a pleasant place.Bordeaux is a beautiful town, where you could find whatever you need like in others big town and the area near arcachon is of course more quiet but near the sea(which is a real advantage during the summer). If you've any precision about the place you will set up i could give you more details too! Describing the whole area could take a year Don't hesitate to contact me or on the forum or on my personnal e-mail. Regards. Céline www.makeiteasyconsulting.com
  8. Dear Saligo, the problem is not here. French banks are just NOT ALLOWED  by french government to pay interest on a current account for people who are resident permanently in france(it's different if you've a non-resident account). Please, don't ask me why(i think that the money on savings accounts is use for some differents aims, like mortgage...  but in fact it's just the law! Cheers!! Céline   www.makeiteasyconsulting.com
  9. Dear Coral, Don't feel so ashame cause during the time i was working at the bank, i promise you that every overseas clients were lost with french cheque book and each time i explained how to fill it without waiting them to ask it to me. I'm sure that if french will have to use an english cheque book, they will be lost as you!!! It's just a problem of changing the habits!!! Cheers Céline www.makeiteasyconsulting.com
  10. Dear Mark,   thanks to my 12 years bank experience, i could tell you that another thing is REALLY IMPORTANT; please write the amount in FRENCH because if you want to write a cheque for example for 100 € but you write one hundred in words and 1000 € in figures it's always the amount in letters which is available. I suppose that in main cases if you write one hundred, someone could understand english but to avoid any problem it is better to write in french. BE CAREFUL the opposite is available too, i mean that if you write "mille"(one thousand) instead of "cent"(one hundred) and write in figures "100", the bank would consider that the right amount is the one in letters, so please pay attention. 12. Dear Claire,   i'm afraid that if you want to use public transport(which are not direct) it could take 3 days!!! And there are 80 km minimum between bergerac to cazals and using a taxi will cost you a lot(nevertheless, you could try to negociate if you call a company before coming in France). Perhaps could you rent a car, which i think is the cheapest way. Good luck. Céline www.makeiteasyconsulting.com
  13. Hi, Richard's answer is good, but i 'll give you more explanations: In France, the bonus goes down each year if you don't have any "responsible accident"(if you don't cause it). The 1st year(when it's the 1st time you take it out) you begin with 1.00 and each year your insurance company goes down with a special calculation wich is: your bonus x 0.95 = your new bonus (example: 0.74 x 0.95 = 0.70 is your new bonus) So the 2nd year, your bonus is 0.95, then 0.90, 0.85, 0.80, 0.76,... The maximum is 0.50 and to get it , it means that you don't have any responsible accident during 13 years!!! If you want more explanations, contact me on www.makeiteasyconsulting.com Regards and sorry for my english if i've made some mistakes, i'm french!
