  1. What about Shreddies? I can't seem to find them anywhere, odd since they're made  by Nestle.
  2. I want to say "time has flown by": I have come up with four possibilities and am not sure which (if any) is correct: 1)      Le temps est très vite passé 2)      Le temps est passé très vite 3)      Le temps s’est très vite passé 4)   Le temps s’est passé très vite   any help would be greatly appreciated!
  3. I am moving to France in January, with initial plans to remain until September. I had hoped my British GP would prescribe me sufficient Pill to cover my stay abroad. However, she refuses to prescribe me more than six month's supply, despite the fact my blood pressure is perfectly healthy. She seems to think I will be able to get hold of the same Pill in France (Mircrogynon 30) although I am dubious of this. Does anyone know whether it is manufactured over there and if it is, whether I will have to pay for it?
  4. is, a mon avis, one of the greatest French poets but despite knowing big chunks of his works off by heart i am very ignorant about his background etc. just wondering whether there are any museums/birth places/general hommages to him anywhere in france, esp in the paris area?
  5. I'm not in France yet, I'm still in the UK and was hoping to get this done before leaving. last time i went in 2001 i got this done from home (but it was through university so not really sure how), does anyone have any ideas?
  6. I understand the French Consulate in London does this for a fee. however their phone number just gives an automated response and i am loathe to send off such important documents without being sure that that is the correct procedure and address. can anyone help?
  7. I forgot to add- last time i lived in france (2001-2002) i had a job before coming over and so had no problems. however, another British friend was refused a cash card and a cheque book, though she too was in gainful employment. Has anyone else come across this?
  8. I'm moving to Paris in Jan, and whilst i have somewhere to live, do not currently have a job. Will I be able to open a bank account without employment? I'm worried as my present job in the UK involves assisting international students and the banks refuse them bank accounts left, right and centre for ridiculous reasons.
  9. I do not have children but am intrigued about the way parents describe their progress in picking up french once they start school. I have learnt french solidly from the age of 8 and only at the age of 20 did i begin to achieve any degree of fluency, so it was a long hard slog! how long did it take for your kids to pick french up? when did you first notice their progress? do they have anglicised accents? does their knowledge of french interfere with their English?
  10. As a brit moving to france, exactly what documents do i need to get? is there anything else besides a carte de sejour?
  11. I'm bored, so moving to paris I'm currently translating my cv into french but seem to remember from my days at the back of the class during my degree that different customs apply - if anyone could give me any advice I'd be truly grateful. Doesn't it have to be just one page long? is there anything else worth knowing?
  12. There is one thing in French i just fail to understand and would be grateful if someone more knowledgeable could clear up. What is the purpose of the definite article before the subject in the following sentences: Lorsque L'on est en cours d'acquisition d'un logement..... Trouver un emploi lorsque Lon est handicap... C'est mme cela que L'on reconnait les grands dirigeants... Cheers!
  13. Does anyone know of any sports teams for women in the paris area? I'm esp interested in football.
  14. I'm moving to Paris shortly and wondered if it is possible to hire a van in the Uk and leave it in France. or does it have to be returned to its country of origin?
  15. I'm moving to pairs shortly and wondered whether it is possible to hire a van in the UK and drop it off in France, or does it have to be returned to its country of origin?
  16. I lived in France for a year in 2001 and never bothered with the carte de sejour. I queued up to get one, but was told I didn't have the right documentation with me (most of which I didn't have anyway). During this time I had a full time, legal and paid job. I'm moving back there soon and wondered how necessary it is to have a carte de sejour? what are the consequences of not having one and do you have to have a job first before you can get one? Everyone banged on about how important it was last time but i seemed to get on ok without.
  17. Hi, I'm moving to Paris soon and wondered if anyone knows of any women's sports teams to join, esp football? also, is it possible to hire a van in england and drop it off in france or does it have to be returned to a car hire place in the uk?
