1. No I fell off the wagon two weeks ago, for a few reasons. You know we only use perhaps 10% of our brains, that's alot of stuff out there to discover and sometimes altering our state of conciousness helps...it does with me. Off course it's me Gay and you so know it! Pack it up Cathy, you're embarassing me! No thanks Meg. JK...what can I say? You can take a man out of the valleys...
2. They are definately from another planet, Ok perhaps having spent a year with a psycho Polish/French bunny boiler hasn't helped my overview of the species too much, AND I'm peed off with spending my time in French! What a stupid language! Rant over.
3. Hey JK, Paris is the exception, keep on doing the evil looks and learn how to insult them back & you'll fit in just fine! The ONLY problems I've ever had anywhere in France has been with Parisiens. There's an old railway line that has been converted into a walk, it's been heavily landscaped and covers perhaps seven or eight clicks, the range of architecture and cultures you see on the walk is great, most of it is elevated and you see alot of rooftop culture along the walk. The Latin quarter at night is an experience. When my NOW ex Bunnyboiler was working  at Orly airport I'd do many kilometres of walking during her shift and have found some great places to be...Paris really is Ok, and I hate cities. The tree stays there, it was alive until my saws were allowed near it, unless someone nicks it?
4. Chris Rea would've told them to go f*** 'emselves Renaud but I guess he doesn't have to worry about keeping the leccy on?
5. Carved from one big Oak butt, it was a big lump. It's for the same people as the pole. I'm not that keen on it. I needed the cheque and they were stressing me about a deadline, lesson learned.
6. Thanks Postie. Wotcha JK! You not been kicked out of France yet? I really hope you're settled...Paris is a cool place for a city. Yeah been out into the Alps & Pyrenees, get out & away from it and the last thing you want to do is come back...dangerous! This is the back view, there is a suggestion of a woman at the bottom whose arm flows into branches...photos don't really show it as it is.
7. I take it Mr Brown isn't too popular then? I'm not too sure why anybody really cares very much?
8. I work to their music most days, it'll take on a different meaning tomorrow...a huge loss, but with life comes death I guess.
9. Thanks Sweet, are you always so sweet? Old self? I really hope not, who knows? I remember several years ago listening to a radio interview with Chris Rea. He had been seriously ill and got through it, at the time he was under contract to do a number of albums and took the decision to tell the record company to go stuff it where the sun don't shine. He figured it was his turn to create what he wanted and to play for himself. The result was the album 'Dancing down the Stoney Road', some of the music on it could only have come from somewhere deep inside. I guess the pole is my equivalent. Cheers.
10. Thanks all, it was a living Thuya topped out at 4,5m and is staying there, unless somebody nabs it! Yeah it was an experience Ernie, not just because of being in the woods but I'm just coming back to carving having burned out from it in the UK. There were no plans or drawings it just 'happened'.
11. I spent 8 days bivvyed in the woods and really chilled into this piece, all chainsaw carved and sanded.
12. Thanks both, good to be back in touch. You've got no excuse not to be banging stuff out to your hearts content now Dick, exciting eh? Keep taking the meds JJ, they'll work one day! Hey I got me a lathe! Ok it's only a small one and I'm still not sure which end you hold but it's been fun so far...including the time I strapped a 6" square lump of Oak on it and fired up a chainsaw to see if it was as wild as I'd hoped! It's been a summer of travel & soul searching & I reckon the way ahead is pretty clear now (if EDF don't turn the lights off!)...it should be fun. Talking of beaks...
13. That link doesn't work for me Dick, maybe the pooter isn't quite right yet? Congrats on the retirement.
14. Just seen the thread, keep on going Coops, sometimes good stuff comes out of experiences like that. Keep going.
15. For those interested in going to this event a short text is posted below, copied from another website so for formalities its copyright 'Creuse News' As an aside, I have seen a magnificent tree carving Chris has done for the event and its incredible. Worth going to for all the below events plus Chris is doing 'live' chainsaw carving. ------------------------------------------------- Creuse Oxygène is primarily a sports clubs in Guéret having organised many important sporting events. However, Alain Menut, the President of the club, wants to go a step further and create an ambitious event for all the family based in the Forêt de Chabrières, Guéret. The 13th and 14th September are the dates for your diary – the theme being ‘the forest’ in all its guises – ecological, economical and fun, with renewable energy being at the centre of the event. Amongst the trees, in the heart of the woodland you’ll find lots to interest you – the workings of an ant hill, bee hives, local flora and fauna. Also the construction of an eco-friendly house, wood as a renewable energy source, wood sculptors, wicker work, clog making and much more. Not to mention hammocks and zip lines suspended in the trees. Over the two days there will be pony and donkey rides, wood sawing, cabin building and nocturnal activities like listening for bats plus the possibility of sleeping in the hammocks in the trees or camping near the wolf park, as well as a 24-hour mountain bike course. This is the first year of this event and it certainly deserves to succeed as the organisation effort has been huge, so if you can, visit the Forest of Chabrières, on the 13th and 14th September, it promises to be a wonderful world of surprises, for full details you can have a look at their website www.creuse-oxygene.com or phone 05 55 61 97 90.
16. Hi all, next weekend (13th & 14th) Foret de Chabrieres just outside of Gueret (Creuse) is a woodland event, there will be all sorts of activities and wood pros there, demonstrating and producing. The evenings look like they will be a riot too with tables de boucheron and probably various animals being roasted!  http://www.creuse-oxygene.com/france/fichier-266.htm follow the links. Can someone come and fix my pooter please 'cos the neighbours are getting cheesed off!

18. Enjoy your day of bunking off Dick? What progress?
19. Yellow pages under scieries Rez, good luck.
20. Yup, know that JJ, it's reminiscent of blokes who had spent so long dancing with the Devil and who were more hooked on adrenaline than Ozzie was on class A substances that they seemed inextricably drawn to forcing the hand of fate. I wonder how much of that table was made by hand? Or was it just a case of programming big machines?
21. Worth the dosh for that sort of work. That's a pretty haunting signature Steve.
22. That's pretty extraordinary work. I can imagine a corporate client wouldn't blink at 15k Sterling for the table. In my book it's worth at least 20k...yep that's my guess, 20K.
23. I still think bandsaws are dangerous as hell, gimme a chainsaw any day...8 inches JJ? That's a lorra depth! Ear defenders with ipod music piped inside is an almost surreal experience, with the chainsaws it's like you know there's a screaming machine in your hands but it doesn't quite feel attached to them...it's still bizarre after hundreds & thousands of hours with the damned things. The technique works for me, the music leads the thoughts away from from the machine and allows more concentration on the piece itself. On another subject, my little Sis gave me a pile of Living Etc & Elle Decoration mags, it's eye opening to see what people are charging for uncomplicated work. A 'designer' four poster bed for example, eight lengths of Oak, sixteen joints and that'll be two and a half grand please sir!
