  1. Imagine all the fur coats you girls could have...now that's a useful cat! And sniperkitty of course, he's pardoned.
  2. Cats...mmmm, about as much use as that sporren of JJ's (real man or not JJ?) and  the nose picking tool on my Swiss army knife...legit target practice tho![:D]
  3. the court of King Caractacus, Rolph Harris....boy does he sing quickly...good brain exercise & funny!
  4. No telly...no prob, never liked the thing! I have watched a couple of borrowed films on the pc over the last few weeks tho & it was certainly relaxing. Winter evenings aren't as easy to fill as summer eves...beware of cabin fever...'tis the season!
  5. It was a 1997 Chateau La Grave and I had a glass So does that mean that you had the bottle, a glass and a suitor and sunk the bottle with him Twinks or you just had the one glass? Did he pull?[:D] The life of a singer eh? I've run out of Horlicks...that's serious.
  6. Poor old Keith...he was always great fun to watch, so was George Best.... Been in Paris, not exactly the Pyrenees but still managed to cover 40 odd k's around the place on foot, boy there are some seriously posh bars there...the person I was with doesn't drink and we went & found coffee instead, and all the people seemed to be outdoing each other in the fashion stakes. Bit of a shame really but I reckon both Keith & George would approve. New ambition is to abseil the Eiffel Tower....so if anyone has any contacts? [6] I mean...it's not like they're gonna chase you back up or anything is it?
  7. I feel great and I'm sleeping like a baby - It's the sleep thing 'aint it Twinks...what's that all about? Everyone knows about drunken comas...you're supposed to be out like a light all night long and dragging yourself out of bed in the morning...right? I was always awake during the night before...now it's more like sober comas and fresh as a daisy in t'morn. I've loads more energy too which is one of the reasons I wanted to have a break from drinking. Doesn't that feeling make you want more of that feeling? It's like "If I feel this good I could be feeling better" which is where the exercise/workout comes in. So OK the first few weeks hurt and you wonder what the point is...then the scales keep telling you what the point is and the feeling of physical power just keeps creeping up and up and one day you realise none of your clothes fit you, you look good and you feel like WOW! For you ladies it'd be worth it just for the excuse to go on major shopping sprees.[:P]
  8. Gluestick had some good points...I'm sure there are genes that cause predisposition to many human traits that a generation ago were not recognised or understood, perhaps because genetic science wasn't as advanced? There are now more answers to questions that have been bugging humankind for yonks. Getting to understand your own personality and the influences that could cause adverse reactions and how those reactions manifest themselves is kind of important...the trigger points and how to avoid them is a huge subject. I have many more questions than answers (just how do you deal with money[blink]) and use the pros as much as necessary and I've got one or two people around who don't seem to mind being fired off at...it's all a part of becoming 'normalised' I think. What makes one turn? Who knows? A trauma of one sort or another perhaps and hopefully professionals at hand to put the pieces back together again...if the person has the will to be helped. One thing that stuck in my mind was being told that I simply didn't understand how ill I was...how can you know? It's like a mechanic saying your car is bruggered...you've just got to trust sometimes....I think. Yes Wooly, the physical stuff is one of my replacements...but just one of them, if your body is feeling good then your brain stands half a chance, like I said...I couldn't imagine undoing the hard work of the past weeks by putting alcohol into my system again. The rest is re-constructing life, putting in place routines and schedules, being disciplined and planning for a new future...getting used to a new 'self'. It doesn't just land in your lap...it has to be worked for. Limiting damage is another aspect...dealing with the aftermath calmly...reassuring young ones, facing responsibilities etc...the list goes on! Keep going folks...anyone need a kick up the bum?
  9. D'yall think they should carry out mental health checks on would be participants first? Furry, I take it you had a few leaks then?
  10. The above stuff puts ones own problems very much into perspective...phew. Gutsy for folk to share details like that too...like you'd want to take the chance again after reading that lot? No thanks.
  11. by asking how far one can get involved in helping those in trouble with booze As far as you want to before you can't anymore? and how you react when so called 'friends' back away and say they do not want to be involved? That seems more of a statement than a question.
  12. Pack it in Ann You on the pull or something?[:D] The scariest thing was when I first saw her avocat...he's the spitting image of Dick Smith! Certainly made me chuckle, Tintin, my bloke asked what was funny, told him I thought I just saw a ghost. The saddest thing was seeing someone who you know and loved and who is/was in the grips of alcohol and distressed & not being able to help her out, didn't feel too good bringing the alcohol issue out in court...hearing all the crap flying around was sorta like being on the outside looking in , it was like a precis of all the damage the booze had brought on over the preceding years, trying to deal with the aftermath and the pain isn't easy,...and all for what? It all seems like such a waste...tough being a human innit? Thanks a bunch for the messages. Keep going y'all eh? You know it makes sense.
  13. Cheers guys, it's just a bunch of suits and a shed load of words that won't bother me & can't do anything to me, I just hope the judge doesn't mind 501's & cowboy boots (highly polished).[:D]...& a healthy dose of truth? It'll feel good walking into court with a clear conscience and clean blood...boy it's good to be clean! Hey it might even be a laugh? You lot who're thinking and doing it are a source of of help...sure it's only the internet but it's pretty cool eh?
  14. it was because I needed the oblivion that came with it Brave post Ann and familiar, taking the hard path & dealing with the demons that were the reason for needing oblivion isn't easy but a way forward....also, eat properly and drink plenty of water, at least two litres a day. He's 12 years younger than me I've known him since I arrived in France 18 years ago and he never used to drink before.  This has changed over the last couple of years and he's drinking quite regularly now I was teetotal for ten years before meeting my soon to be alcohol dependent ex; then discovered the 'joys' of the stuff and learned that it gave me oblivion too, then it nearly killed me & lost me alot and tomorrow I have to go to a tribunal and sit & listen to reams of attestations from folk who matter eff all to me....but no prob, 'cos I chose the hard route and truth isn't a threat anymore....keep going folks!
  15. Cool Twinks, tell them you're clinically psychotic and alcohol can cause you to have strange feelings! You haven't picked the easiest of times to start your month off though...I've met soon to be new hamlet neighbours several times & have been invited for apero, I told them immediately that I don't drink & they say they'll find a special bottle of Chateau Robinet for me! Ann49, if you get in the crap & need to 'chat' please don't hesitate to PM.
  16. Thanks for the honesty puzzled...I agree with you, the next one will be different!
  17. Cheers for the link JJ; I was thinking of something that ran the length of the bed of the lathe (ish) between the headstock/chuck & tailstock so wide boards up to maybe 30cm can be sanded in one or two passes if you get me? I've looked around but not found anything so far. The only thing I can find which might be appropriate are floor sanding abrasive belts, about 400mm wide I think, which could be cut to length to & fit to the 'drum' somehow. Sort of like this http://www.axminster.co.uk/product-Jet-16-32-Plus-Drum-Sander-33027.htm but on a smaller scale. I'd have preferred to have carved the base & seat of the bench from one half of an old growth log; I've got the log but bottled out of using it for this project...it's a biggie & to part with it for mere money didn't seem right. That's always the prob Moggy when there aren't any rules or rights or wrongs apart from the ones you impose on yourself  I guess you just do it and hope that you hook up with folk who think along the same wavelength? Ta for comments.
  18. Taken on board JJ, I agree with you too, for me it didn't 'gel', it sorta looks like the elephant man would be happy with it...but fortunately the owner thinks otherwise! Techniques were nowt special, just using chainsaw to degrees of accuracy for cutting housing joints & tight radii curves that I haven't done before, sort of trying to increase speed but retain quality type thing...anoraky stuff. Dad has given me a small lathe which I need to learn to use sometime. This is just a seed of thought to plant, I spend too much time sanding, lacking the dosh to buy an industrial drum sander I have a theory that the lathe could be used for such an operation? In short; a turned sanding 'drum' left in the lathe and some method of attaching an abrasive to the turned drum; perhaps a foam backing glued to the drum and abrasive from a roll attached to the foam somehow with infeed & outfeed roller stands? It could save an awful lot of time.
  19. Perhaps picking up the A20 at Chateauroux or Limoges & going south? I would really appreciate a couple of things being picked up for me, not large...I'm happy to contribute to fuel costs of course. I can R/V on A20. Thanks.
  20. Wrong on both counts Woolyone, Wikipedia it, she writes poetry; you'd get on fantastic with her and it would save me having to shell out on Megs sniperkitty![8-|]
  21. I got a bunny boiler who I reckon you'd get on well with woolywarmer! You want her details?
  22. Yep...definately on the pull. How about a section for "I'm desperate and need a wench" and the female equivalent?
  23. Why do I keep associating woolybanana with willywarmer?  Is he on the pull?
