Hi S.D You seem to very knowledgeable of the French traffic and licencing laws, can you tell me if my class 1 ( hgv Artic ) licence allows me to drive for a french company now, it used to be that a foreigner with a class one could only drive class 2 trucks i:e rigid 6/8 wheelers ( large tippers etc ) and that you had to take a French test to update the english licence, but that may of changed now.I can drive for an english company or drive my own but it is not clear regarding the French company and my French isn`t good enough to take a HGV test Regards Keith . p

B.F offer a cheap crossing for which you may not be on land for more than ( I beleive ) 29 hrs, I use this a lot to go to my house in the Vendee, I get the 20:30 friday from p/mth arrive St Malo 07:00ish, I am at the house apprx 11:30 and then I have got untill 10:30 sunday morning to get to St Malo, not much time in France but enough to do some small jobs like fitting carpets , fixing roof leaks , tiling cooker surrounds, what else has she got me to do ........................................... The cost of this last time on my own without a cabin was £ 54:00 return with a cabin was apprx £74:00 , I think that is execellent value , unfortuanatley I beleive that this offer stops May untill Sept for obvious reasons . There is a touring site actually at Disney , I think it is part of the Davy Crockett complex .Its not cheap but it is on the complex and having experienced Disney Paris I would sooner pay the extra and not have the drive etc at the end of what can be an exhausting day plus you can use all the facilities of Davy Crockett complex and they run a bus into the park , also contact the caravan club they also recomend a couple of sites. Can anyone please offer me some information regarding this minefield , we have a home in the Vendee( Pouzages ) we visit apprx 8 times a year and the children would like to watch TV , what is the simple way , do I need to bring a Sky dish / box from uk etc,( there is a dish on the roof left by the previous French owners ) we have an english TV for watching DVD`S .Answers in basic ``god he is stupid ``, not quite in the 21 st c and useless with the remote language please !!!!!!! Does anyone know of any B&B`s , Hotels etc which are open and have vacancies - Feb 12 - 16, in or around Gourette in the Pyrenees, I dont` mind travelling a shortish distance e:g Laruns which I beleive is about 12 kms. I have been trying to book something for about a month and didn`t think to ask on the Forum, if nothing comes up I will have to take the caravan - any info on the municipal site in Gourette and or the road up there would be appreciated ( it will be in a Discovery with snow chains) as I have promised the kids a ski-ing holiday and a small mountain is not going to get in their way ( they havent got to do the towing ) Thanks Keith.P

The idea for it is to reduce the amount of accidents involving pedestrians and bikes etc which may come up the inside of the truck at junctions and traffic lights, it should be mounted on the passenger side above the window looking down ( on rhd vehicles) My trucks have them but we do not change them over when we go on the continent as the driver is on the`` inside`` and the one fitted is handy for seeing any cars that have come up the outside.
