  1. Please could someone inform us of the correct proceedure to enrol our daughter (4yrs) in the local ecole maternelle. Do we first visit the mayor or the school? We are moving over next week and would ideally like our daughter to start school in the September - how likely is that they will have vacancies and would she attend every day of the week or just days that we select (like her nursery in UK)? We intend to make this top of our list upon arrival in dept 72 but fear we should have tried to arrange something before leaving UK. Thankyou Kate
  2. We will be bringing our old "run around" to France when we move next week which we intend to keep until we purchase a french vehicle in a few months time. Are we able to insure this with a french insurance company (if so, any recommendations!) even though it will still be registered in the UK, taxed and we do not intend to export it. We had planned to keep our UK insurance company and obtain a green card, but they want to charge us an extra £55.00 per month for the green card, on top of the £23.00 monthly insurance payment - seems a bit steep on a car that's only worth £300.00! Any suggestions gratefully received, thanks Kate
  3. Thanks to all who replied  - i have taken all the useful info on board and will stop worrying and contact the surgery re TB jab.

    Nice

Were we all taught by the same english teacher?.......i too were discouraged from using "get" and "nice" and still today refrain from using them where possible. Kate
  5. As i understand it, we need to provide proof of my daughter's (4yrs) vaccinations which she had done in the UK. We are due to move to France in the next 2 weeks. I have asked my surgery for this information but they insist that my daughter's "Red Book" (book issued at birth showing height/weight.immunisations etc) is sufficiant. I am concerned that this information is not sufficiant - all it contains is a signature by the administering nurse and the date and name of the vaccine - it doesn't seem "legal enough"? Does anybody have any suggestions or know from experience if this red book will surfice? Thanks Kate
  6. This may seem a trivial question but it is just another thing for me to worry about.......when we move to France (dept 72) next month, is it advisable for my husband to remove the UK 3 pin plugs on all our appliances (on everything from the fridge/freezer to my hair straighteners!) and replace them with french 2 pin plugs, in which case we will be making a hasty trip to the supermarket for a bulk purchase of plugs. Thanking you in anticipation! Kate
  7. We are receiving the same message daily  in the UK from demon - informing us we have violated our account. My husband (who is a web developer/programmer) has warned me not to open any of them - it is definitely a virus. Kate
  8. Hi all, Thanks for all your replies, think I will buy a new dish when arrive in France, at 30 euros it doesnt warrant me climbing onto my roof to extract my existing one. Thanks again, Kate
  9. Hi, We are due to move to France (Dept 72 - Sarthe), in the next month and we will be bringing our SKY digibox with us.  Could anyone recommend whether we should take our SKY Minidish with us or whether it would be better to buy a new one when we arrive in France. 1) Does the small black oval SKY Minidish work OK in France. 2) Are there any benefits in buying one in France. Thanks for your advise, Kate
  10. Many thanks for your advice and comments.....we've decided to bring our appliances with us!
  11. I know this is a long shot, but is anybody aware of a house/flat we could rent in Dept 53 whilst looking for and purchasing a house (ie probably around 3-4 months) Our UK house sale is just going through so we will be requiring somewhere from middle June/July (unfortunately peak season!)   many thanks Kate
  12. I realise this subject has been covered before, but we are unable to decide which route to take.........we will be moving to dept 53 (mayenne) in the next couple of months pending our house sale here in the UK. We realise it would be easier to sell out UK car whilst we are still living in this country but have now hit a stumbling block. As we have yet to find a rental accomodation we do not have a french residential address, would we still be able to buy a car from a french dealer/garage whilst on a 2 week inspection visit?(ie, bring it back to the UK for a month or so before returning to France). Would the car need re-registering each time we moved house even though it would be in the same department? Would anybody suggest hiring a car for a few weeks once we have moved over permanantly then look for one to purchase? Lastly, does anybody have an opinion on buying a french LHD car in the UK, there are several dealers offering this but obviously they may be more costly? Sorry for so many questions, but we have a dilema and need some friendly advise. Thankyou Kate
  13. We are in the process of selling our property in the UK and want know whether we should bring our existing Kitchen appliances to France with us, or whether to buy in France.  Firstly, will washing machines, dishwashers etc work OK in France. Secondly, are the prices comparable to UK prices? Would be grateful for any feedback or advice... Thanks, Kate
